Tess was at the vet today for her check-up. She didn’t see the surgeon but the vet said that her leg seemed to be doing well and her walking didn’t give him any concern as she was putting her paw to the ground.
He was pleased with her eating and toilet patterns ( ) and her temperature was normal. All in all she was as he would have expected after 5 weeks. The healing and confinement has to continue for another 3 to 5 weeks.
Tess was excellent in the car – snoozed and looked out the window. She barked a few times in the vets at a statue of a cat…..she hasn’t been around cats here, so don’t know what she thinks of real cats! She was excellent for the vet – really good natured (even when the thermometer was put you know where  ) and not a bit skittish.
I was pleased with the vet’s view even though he thought it would take more healing before we will know for sure how Tess will be. A big thanks to my niece Sally for once again helping me and carrying Tess in and out of the car. ;)

Well we’re into week 5 now with Tess. We’re are going for a check up to vet on Thursday so keep paws crossed that Tessie’s leg is healing ok. Really hoping we get good news as she has been fantastic under the circumstances. ;)
Tess is in great form. She is the most gentle dog – loves human company. We had breakfast in (her) bed this morning and she head butted my mug and sent my coffee everywhere – then proceeded to lick it all up :o Obviously used to cafe society! She’s not eating her kibbles as well but I guess she’s not burning energy and she’s chewing a lot of bones. But I saw a new game on the internet to play gently with her – I put kibbles in one hand and she has to sniff them out. She picked the correct hand every time and then enjoyed eating her find. I don’t want her eating just treats so that got her to eat all her breakfast.
I could play all day with her and she will be a bundle of fun when she’s fit.
I’ll post after the vet visit on Thursday. :)

Bruno such a cutie – love the video. You seem a very content little pup. Loving the short legs (where did they come from?). Hopefully there’s a family out there for you as you look like loads of fun. Your foster mum put some lovely comments on Facebook about your good behavior too. :D :P

Tessie’s 3rd week starts today. We had quite an interesting morning…. my nervous yorkie Tio plucked up the courage to play tug through the crate with Tess :o I couldn’t believe he approached the crate and grabbed a mouthful of fluffy pheasant that Tess had and the game of tug began. It was a gentle game, but Tess loved playing. She won all the rounds, but then Tio spotted an opportunity and pulled Mr Pheasant through the bars and away he went. Photo below of Tio flaunting his win :?
Tess is stil swinging her injured leg when she walks outside. I’m keeping all fingers crossed that this is ok and the leg is healing. Tess got a delivery of loads of toys and treats which will keep her busy for many weeks, so thanks to Kathy and Marie.
I would think when Tess is over her injury she would be a great family dog. She loves playing fetch (she throws, I fetch) in the kitchen and is very gentle. If she got a good bit of exercise I’d say she’d be a happy couch potato after that.
Anita – my neighbor also thought Tess had a schnauzer look.

A few more snaps of Tess. I think she’s getting a little bored being indoors all the time now. Still, have to be cruel to be kind. It’s 3 weeks tomorrow since the surgery. She seems to stand ok on the leg, but when she walks out to the toilet she tends to swing her back leg rather than put the pad to the ground. It’s early days and she is doing great considering her situation.
Her favorite thing is to take her jumbo bone treat up to the puppy gate to eat it where she sees my 2 drooling at the other side of the gate  (they get little bones later). So Tessie has a mischievous side to her!
Also Tess makes so much noise when you rub her – must be like a cat purring! I’ve never had a dog do that before so it’s great fun getting Tess talking.

Tess (who has a broken femur at only 10 months) asked me to send on her good wishes to you Benson. She’s delighted that injured dogs do get happy ever endings. :D She’s hoping there is a family out there who will love her as much as your forever family love you.
Lots of licks are sent your way by Tess :P :P

Tess is here 2 weeks today. She is the perfect patient – no complaining at all. Her meds finished a week ago, the collar is no longer needed and the wound is looking good. Her stitches are dissolvable so she’s not due back to the vet for another 4/6 weeks.
I rang the vet nurse to discuss the crate confinement and as we cannot get a 6ft x 6ft crate, the nurse was fine with her being in the kitchen. I have put down rugs and non-slip mats on the tiles so Tess doesn’t slip. This is working out great as she can stretch out on the floor. In the evening she comes up to the sitting room and does go into a crate. By then she’s tired and has a chew on something and then snoozes. She just loves company.
She is fine around my Golden oldie dog (although a little possessive about her treats) but Tio drives her nuts  (as he does most people, poor pet he’s a Mammy’s boy  )
So all good here – just hoping the pin is working. Tess used her broken leg to scratch her ear the other day and I nearly had a heart attack! She’s obviously not in pain which is great. :D

A little update on Tess….can’t believe she is here a week already! Tess is doing fantastic. She is a dream of a dog. :D Both Tess and I want to thank everyone for their lovely comments and especially for the tips on entertaining Tess during her confinement. The Kong is working a treat while she’s in the crate (although she can’t have it on the floor as she bounces it and I have to fetch  (role reversal) ).

Thanks to Claire who dropped over a second crate so now I can take Tess into the sitting room at night and she can watch TV with us ;) We are getting on great with the crate now – she knows I will let her out often. I just have to get her head in the door and she walks in herself then. Tess is very clean – no accidents. She goes outside to do all her business, so someone trained this baby…

Tess is an absolute teddy bear. Her coat, although it looks wire-haired, is really like silk. And there’s lots of it. She is an extremely affectionate girl.
She is getting fed up in the crate and crying more, so I went to Petworld today and they advised me on some strong durable toys to amuse her.
She’s just had a great chew on her rawhide bone. Then Marie (thank you) I bought a tough Kong and filled that and she went into the crate after it. :P
As I’m home nearly all the time I let her out of the crate as she just stretches out on the floor and snoozes. The vet just didn’t want her jumping or running, but she has no intention of doing either yet. I also take the collar off when I’m with her as she hasn’t been at her wounds at all and they are nice and dry.
The next few weeks are gonna be tough on both of us as I hate hearing her crying, but the vet nurse said what she needed most was Tough Love!!

Oh what a shock – wasn’t expecting to read that! I’ve been quietly following this big baby. You must be devastated – but how wonderful you were there to love him to his end. RIP Schumacher.

Well Tess and I have had a full on 24 hours to get to know each other and we are best of buddies. A few things were re-arranged as she’s bigger than I thought. She’s quite happy once in the crate and is very tired, so after some crying she’s out for the count. ;) She’s allowed out a few times a day just in the kitchen when supervised. Normally when she’s on her toilet break she gets to stay out while I become her pillow. :P She is so friendly, tail wagging and all happy head. Obviously used to cuddling a human…
Great eater and food motivated which was helping to get her back into the crate…but she’s copped on now!!
Any tips on placing water bowl in crate? She needs it but blankets keep getting knocked into the dish?
Also, any tips on getting her happily into the crate after her breaks? Don’t want to force her and as she’s stitches from being spayed, I can’t really lift her in (although she’s a bit big and heavy for me!).
So watch this space for more updates on darling Tess. :D

Tess has arrived to her foster home this afternoon. I’ve got her settled in but she’s not happy being in the crate! Unfortunately as she’s wearing ‘the cone of shame’ I can’t even give her a chewy treat as she can’t handle it.
Anyway she’s home here for the next 6/8 weeks as she recovers with crate rest. I’ll update in the next few days. I know a lot of people have donated for her vet fees so I just wanted to let you know she’s ok. ;)

I just transported this big teddy bear to meet Dave who is bringing him to his foster home in Wexford. Mason is a gentle giant. I was a bit nervous transporting Mason as I’m not too used to big dogs, but he strolled out of his kennel and went straight for the open car. He looked out the window on the drive from Ratoath to Templeogue and then lay down for a snooze. Dave took him then and he met his 2 dogs and was very good with them. He’s very placid and I wish him well on the rest of his journey. :D
