Application Form to Adopt a Rescue Dog

Registered Charity Number CHY 16481

Please fill-out the details below and hit submit. We will be in touch shortly. The details that you provide will help us to match you with the dog best suited to your home and circumstances.

Before you complete the form…

You must be over 21 years of age to adopt a dog from Dogs in Distress.
Ultimately it will be necessary for the head of your household to sign the Dogs in Distress adoption papers and take legal responsibility for the dog. If you are not this person please discuss this requirement with the head of household before completing the adoption form.
Dogs in Distress require a minimum garden fence height of 5.5ft; this is to ensure that when the dogs goes into the garden he is totally safe. If you have a garden please be sure your fence meets this requirement before completing the adoption form.
As part of adoption application process a home visit from a Dogs in Distress volunteer to you home will take place. Please bear in mind that we do not make adoption decisions based on who has seen the dog first or who has completed an application the earliest. The well-being of the dog is our paramount concern and dogs will be placed with the best available home.

The minimum donation for adopting a DID dog is €150. Dogs are re-homed wormed, neutered/spayed*, microchipped and with their 1st vaccination as a minimum. This donation does not cover the total cost of the veterinary treatment. Most receive much more medical care to bring them back to health. None of this donation goes toward administration costs. Please take this into consideration when making a donation to us.

*Pups less than 6 month old can’t be neutered/spayed. Those who adopt a pup of under 6 months must commit to having the pup neutered/spayed at 6 months by the Dogs in Distress vet (location permitting). Just a €50 donation is requested to part fund this once the dog is old enough to be neutered/spayed.

  • Dog's details

In this section you may specify a dog/s that you would like to adopt – if you wish. Available dogs are listed as available for adoption on our forum. Please note that it will take time to process your adoption application. During this time the dog that you have specified may be homed to another adopter who is further along the adoption process. We have limited foster space so we are unable to hold dogs for longer than it is needed for them to find a suitable home. Dogs in Distress can offer advice on the breed of dog suitable to your home. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have to help you choose the right dog for your family.
  • Generally speaking...

  • Dogs in Fostercare

Because we use foster care rather than a kennel-based rescue service our fosterers get to know our dogs incredibly well while they are in foster care. Our fosterers teach basic obedience while the dog is with them. However our dogs have varying degrees of obedience, depending upon their circumstances before they came into our care. We will provide you with as much detail as possible before you decide on your rescue dog. However it may take at least three weeks for a dog to settle into a new home so please be patient.
