Unfortunately she is a little bit too active for him, so reluctantly he surrendered her to Dogs in Distress. She is now in her foster home with us in Virginia, Co. Cavan and is looking for her Forever Home. When she was collected by us on Friday she was very nervous at first but after an hour or so she was playing away with one of our other dogs, Milo (another dog we fostered for Dogs in Distress and ended up adopting him in February).
Trixie has lots of character and is a very sweet and funny little thing. She doesn’t always recognise you immediately, especially if you change your clothes, so for a minute or two she thinks that you’re a stranger invading the house and barks at you (whilst wagging her tail at the same time)! Hilarious. She is a great watchdog and hears EVERYTHING!
She’s learnt to negotiate the staircase which was obviously completely alien to her. She was able to go up them, albeit very dubiously, after a few attempts but was terrified of coming back down so would stand at the top whimpering and looking down waiting for us to go up to rescue her and carry her back down! However, thankfully she’s now able to go up and down them with no bother, after 3 days of lots of patient encouragement from us.
She doesn’t seem to have been house trained so we’re working on that too and she’s already starting to get there. She learns very fast. She is a great eater and not fussy at all.
She doesn’t know how to play with the ball or stick or toys but is watching and following our own two dogs, and is learning about play time and what fun it is! She gets on great with our dogs and our cats. She even plays with one of the cats – they chase each other up and down the house and have wrestling matches. Our house is like a comedy at the moment, hours of entertainment – all we need is the Benny Hill music!
Although she is young and very active she also loves nothing better than to snuggle into with you at the end of the day, the closer she can lie next to you the better!
We brought Trixie for play time to a nearby lake yesterday. She really enjoyed herself with our two, as you’ll see from the photos below! She has no problem going in the car. She’ll sit on the back seat but is also happy to lie in the boot area – we have a hatchback with a dog grid/barrier, so she can look out if she wants to.
She is great with both cats and dogs and just wants some attention and love. She is a very affectionate dog with "lots of licks" to give and would make a great family pet.

She’s probably nearly doubled in size since the time that she arrived to us to foster in March. She was adopted in April just before Easter by a family member so it’s great that we get to see her from time to time! She was up for a visit yesterday and had great fun getting acquainted with the three Jack Russell X pups, Taylor, Rocky and Poppy, that we’re currently fostering for DID. Here she is pictured with Rocky….
