Remembrance Run 5k
A new running event, the inaugural Remembrance Run 5K will take place in the Phoenix Park on Sunday, November 11th at 11am (11/11/12 @11am).
This event, organised by Athletics Ireland in association with mycharity.ie, will have a special remembrance theme of family or friends who have passed on, or who are currently struggling with illness or other life challenges.
Have you or your friends and family ever taken part in the Womens Mini Marathon? If so then the Remembrance Run is perfect for you, and ALL the family can come along. We encourage you to gather their troops to take part in this unique event to Walk, Jog or Run together over 5km in the Phoenix Park on a November Sunday morning, while remembering and dedicating their participation in the event to family or friends.
The entry fee is €20 for individuals and there is also a family rate of €50 for families of four. Each finisher will receive a specially designed souvenir candle, a certificate and a goody bag to mark their participation in this special themed event that will on the day include a unique mix of music and special commentary. To find out more about the event and to enter see http://www.remembrancerun.ie or call Tel: (01) 886 9933
For Irish Runner Editor Frank Greally, the Remembrance Run has special significance.
“I have had the idea for this event for a while and I feel that now is the right time to put it into action. I have found this a difficult year, with dear friends like Con Houlihan and my brother in-law Leo Fitzpatrick passing on and other close, lifelong friends struggling with illness and other life challenges”.
“Many people will have had similar experiences; together we can celebrate the Gift of Life with family and friends in the Phoenix Park on Sunday November 11th at 11am. This will also be an opportunity to celebrate our own Gift of Days and to make a donation to a favourite charity through http://www.mycharity.ie.”
Remembrance Run will be a unique experience for the Walker, Jogger or Runner. The month of November is a time of remembrance for everyone at year’s end – an ideal time to remember family and friends past and present and to celebrate our own gift of days and fullness of health. Those participants will be able to access their own fundraising page dedicated to the charity through http://www.mycharity.ie. This is a chance to ask your supporters, family members and close friends to give a little that can mean a whole lot to the charity.

October 25, 2012 at 12:47 pm #111967kaydoyleMemberSo many people abandon running at their first attempt simply because they start off too fast and feel exhausted after just a few steps! To work out an appropriate pace, start walking briskly and then, keeping the same pace, simply lift your feet more into a jog. Once you have jogged at walking pace several times you will be able to gradually speed it up to find a more comfortable pace.
2)Don’t be shy – give it a try!
Many people think they will never want or be able to run, either through not feeling up to it fitness-wise, feeling that they will not enjoy it, or out of self-consciousness. These feelings are completely normal – but with the combination of this plan and the great event itself, this is the time to get together with colleagues and give it a try! Support each other and achieve something wonderful – you might even find you like it.3)My running is so slow I may as well be walking!
Running is a fantastic way to get fit and burn extra calories – but it is very much a personal path of growth and development. Don’t compare yourself to others – only to yourself! Each time you run, you’ll find you have stopped less often or completed the same route a minute quicker. All of these are indications of your improvement! -
