Congratulations to Baxter and his new forever family! It sounds as though he’s having a great time and settling in so well. It’s a credit to all the fosterers along the way how well this boy has come on and to bring out the super dog that he truly is. Go Bax!!!
November 27, 2010 at 2:34 pm #102955MutleyMemberOn the way home last night I said to Nick ‘ I can’t understand why nobody has taken him before now.’
He replied, ‘It’s because he was waiting for us.’
That says it all. It must be fate. [/quote:2c48i468]Truer words were never spoken!

You are such a special boy and in many of our hearts here in D.I.D.

November 28, 2010 at 12:25 am #102980MaglouMemberHey Emma and Dermot, Lucy and Jack,
We would have adopted all four of you if we could
Those are very kind words and very much appreciated as we know how much you love him and found it difficult to part with him.
I am looking at the beautiful boy now, snoozing on the sofa and still can’t believe our luck in finding him.
Mona from DID came out to visit today and was happy with us, so that’s a big sigh of relief.
Bax has been very busy today meeting Mona and her niece and playing in the garden and going on another big walk and really bonding with Mrs White. The are best buddies now and greet each other like old friends. He was washing her ears today!
He is so relaxed and has been asleep for the last hour on his back with his legs waving in the air.
Nick came home from the shops today with a rubber chicken for Bax. He has been squeaking it and tossing it up in the air and flinging it all around the place and it was absolutely hilarious. He is such a clown.
I will post some more pics tomorrow. I was trying to take some of him with the chicken but he wouldn’t stop long enough for proper shots so they’re a bit wonky but capture the moment.
Thanks everyone for your kind messages, we will keep the posts coming. It is a pleasure to shareNovember 28, 2010 at 6:58 pm #103005MaglouMemberAnother great day and Bax even slept in his own bed last night! What a good boy he is.
He has been asleep with his favourite cat today. She is delighted to have him around and reckons a house is not a home without a pet dog!
(Hers that is )
Norman is still not happy but is getting a little bit braver.Baxter is incredibly beautiful both inside and out and I’m so glad I stumbled across the DID website and saw his gorgeous face looking out at me. The Internet is a wonderful thing!
A few more pics of Bax from yesterday.

glad to hear he has a new friend in the house he’ll be delighted with the company
kisses and hugs from us xxDecember 1, 2010 at 10:34 am #103093MaglouMemberHi Emma, yes, this lad is amazing! He is going from strength to strength and is such a happy boy. You said he has personality and for sure he has it in spades. Our other cat is coming around now and although he’s still a bit tentative Bax is pretty good with him.
In the mornings he tends to be so happy to see them he wants to play as he was used to playing with Lucy and Jack and although I keep telling him cats just don’t do all the leapy roll around stuff he is doesn’t believe me!
He loves his walks so much and found a freezing cold pond to jump around in yesterday. Oooh it made me shiver just thinking about it.
He is my constant layabout companion on the couch in the evenings and the perfect hot water doggle!
He is absolutely no trouble whatsoever and has completely slotted in.
Hope you are all well and Lucy and Jack enjoying frolics in the snow.
Bax sends you all big sloppy licks and love from us all XXXDecember 2, 2010 at 8:25 am #103119buzzsmomMemberWell Bax truly did end in the Happy Endings , just where he belongs. Great pictures but then he is a great dog.
December 2, 2010 at 1:38 pm #103120clairefMemberBaxter is a true example that shows there is a forever family out there for every dog! It so sad especially this time of year to think of all the homeless dogs out there who are over looked for whatever reason or do not make it out of the pound but Baxters story and his happy face is a great reminder of what a little dedication and love can do. His family have a fabulous new family member who will love them unconditionally forever and he in return has his very own forever home! Be happy little man where you will be safe and loved and protected forever!
December 4, 2010 at 12:30 am #103159MaglouMemberIt’s great to read your messages of support for Baxter. He really is a lovely boy.
He went to the vet today for his booster but was so afraid and barked and backed away. We managed to get the job done but it just shows how insecure he still is and how much love and support he needs. It makes me shudder to think what in his young life, made him like this. We took him for a long walk afterwards so he could let off steam and he met people and another dog and apart from an initial bark was absolutely fine. He loved playing with the dog.
I get so angry to think how cruel people can be to animals.
I am certain that with continuity and love Baxter will gradually learn not to feel threatened by these kinds of situations and even if he doesn’t like it will be able to cope without extreme reactions.
He is completely flaked out on the sofa at the moment recovering from his big day. He is such a sweetheart.
Relaxed Bax and with Mrs W 003.jpgDecember 4, 2010 at 11:34 am #103182emsMemberLove the pic of Bax he looks so chilled
Bax def needs love and support the poor ol thing missed out on a lot of formative time when he was younger, we’re just glad to know he has such an amazing family now that are willing to offer him all he needs. Margaret its fab to see how well he is doing in your care and how loved he is, thank you so much for seeing the amazing dog that Bax is and for allowing him blossom in your care. give my fab Bax cuddles from us
We put up the Christmas tree last night and we were laughing at how much we missed having Bax around cause our two lay down and watched us do the hard work and investigated after we’d finished….if Bax had been here his head would have been in every box we brought down from start to finish!!! xxxx
December 5, 2010 at 10:41 pm #101558MaglouMemberLovely to hear from you Emma. I consider that we are the lucky ones that Bax didn’t get snapped up before we came along! He is an incredible dog. Is it less than two weeks we have had him? It seems like he’s been here forever. He has settled into a routine and is slowly getting used to all the unfamiliar noises of a new home. He is on red alert for those but is a great house dog and you can’t but feel safe with him around.
He is starting to feel secure enough to go off on his own and find a nice patch of sunshine in another room for a snooze rather than being attached all the time to my side. You can see him unwinding and there’s nothing I like better than evenings with Bax on the sofa when I can play with his silky ears and he is just so affectionate and gentle.
He has made friends with a Rough Collie he meets on his walk every day and they have a great old time. Today though he didn’t want to play so long and just grabbed his stick and came with us as if to say he would rather be with his family than playing with another dog. It was really strange. He is such a good boy on his walks and only goes a little way ahead of us before trotting back. He is hilarious with his sticks and very discerning about which one he chooses. If it passes muster it very often comes all the way home with us.
I’m sure that when our decorations go up there will be a nose in every single box and bag! There’ll probably be two of them in it as the cat loves all those glittery things too. They are such good friends.
Will give Bax lots of hugs and cuddles from you all Emma. XX
Relaxed Bax and with Mrs W 002.jpgDecember 6, 2010 at 2:31 am #81825DID RescueKeymasterO my God I wish I had hair like that………..silky, shiny soft and glowing. Guess he really looks happy, settled and loving really belonging to somebody at last.
This dog nearly broke my heart in DID trying to find him a home and suddenly it’s like there was never a problem and what were you all going on about.I believe what Claire says about a home for everyone out there but in reality who can wait with the expense and more and more needing a space in care to survive…….it’s all very sad.
He is one lucky lad that ended up with DID and even luckier with his very understanding and loving new family.
Thank you for adopting one of our dogs and may you and all of the cats have a fantastic, enjoyable loving life.
These type of Happy Endings confirm we are getting it right, we do care and the end result is everyone is happy…..content….and sorted.
Best of Luck and many happy years to come.December 8, 2010 at 11:49 pm #103274MaglouMemberThanks for your good wishes Twist and yes, you are most certainly getting it right at DID! It’s a brilliant organisation doing terrific and most needed work. Your care and concern is self evident. I’m sure Baxter would not be such an emotionally stable boy if he had not received such loving foster homes along the way to us.
Isn’t he the most shiny gorgeous boy! I can’t stop looking at and stroking that silky coat of his. He is such a beauty.
For whatever reason he wasn’t taken before we came along I am so glad for it. He continues to delight us daily as we discover more of his personality and he becomes more comfortable.
He and Mrs White are best buddies now and even play together, very gently on Bax’s part, he seems to understand that a bit of caution is needed. It’s so funny to see them rolling around. She totally accepts him and she gave him a good old wash behind the ears the other day.
Who said cats and dogs can’t be friends?
Keep up the good work, I’m sure you’re right that their is a home for every one of your orphans out there. -
