    DSPCA website are running a campaign to lobby Senate members/public representatives to change animal health and welfare legislation. They have links on the site and a standard letter template that you can download and send. I think the only way we can change anything longterm and make a difference is through legislation. The health and welfare act focuses on changing puppy farm/mill breeding standards

    I wrote to my five TDs about this after seeing this on the DSPCA website and two of them wrote back to me, after bringing it up with John Gormley.

    I don’t know if it makes a difference but I feel better for doing something, anything about this issue.

    It made the news last week. New legislation has been passed and should now be in affect. It was promised over two year ago. It will hopefully clamp down on backyard breeding. Ireland is officially known as the puppy farm capital of Europe. Absolutely shocking. Up until now the only Legal Act covering animal welfare was dated 1911. You can only imagine how archaic that was
