our little buddy is staying with us forever :) he is so cute, so i just couldn’t imagine myself giving him away. He is also a right size for our house and our cats finally acknowledged him as being part of our family.
He also got a friend today, called Lucy. She is lovely, but Deelo is over protective of his home, of his toys, of everything. he really doesn’t like sharing, so we are working on it. Lucy is very patient and i am glad Deelo has someone to play with while we are at work.

Here are some pictures is this great little dog.

We changed his name a bit to Dilly, as it is a bit easier to pronounce, and he doesn’t seem mind.
He is now 100% settled in and feels like he has been with us since the beginning.
He is very smart. Despite being two years old, he learned the command ‘sit’ in two weeks. He knows what you are asking of him.
He follows me everywhere. Even at night. He sleeps in the same room as we are, but even during the night he gets up to follow me into the kitchen, if i want water or anything else. It is like he is afraid that I will disappear. It is not the same with my husband. he lets him go, he doesn’t follow him, it is just me. Hope this will pass with time.
He is a lovely dog and we are very happy that we adopted him. He is great with children and loves them.

You have a very smart little dog there :D . As for following you everywhere, my Patterdale, Nellie does exactly the same thing. I have never really given it any thought until you said Dilly does it :? . Who knows what sort of background they have come from, as long as they are happy I don’t think it’s a problem. He will probably stop doing it when he finally realises that he is part of the family and no-one is going away. I suspect Nellie’s following me is food related rather than any great devotion towards me

Hi JennyC, another great happy ending. Love Dilly’s new name. It really suits him. With regard to him following you everywhere – I too have a "shadow" called Ollie. We adopted him 2 years ago and to this day he never takes his eyes off me. He too sleeps in our room. He was given up twice so we are his third owners. While he loves my husband, he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES me. The only down side of this adoration is that for the last few months, he has started suffering from separation anxiety and wets when we go out. If my husband is at home and I go out, he won’t wet but will spend the entire time on the back of the couch looking out the window waiting for me to come back. While it’s a lovely feeling to have someone love you so much, if I had my time over again, I would have done things differently. I would have done small things like leaving him in a room downstairs while I went upstairs for a short while, not have him constantly sitting on my lap, not bringing him everywhere with me. My fear is Dilly sounds like Ollie and in time, might start showing signs of separation anxiety. I think dogs like Dilly and Ollie are grateful to have found people who love them so much that they can’t bear to be parted from us. Sorry if this sounds like a rant . I wish you and Dilly a long and happy life together. Mary

And Dilly is back to Ireland.

I was transferred by my company back in July to Scotland, which was initially to be 8 weeks. Well, we are just back and Dilly is back home again. He did enjoy Scotland, but recently it got very cold in there and he is one of those fussy dogs, who just hates wet and cold. I probably should bring him to live to Spain, as the only weather he enjoys is nice and warm. Sometimes he even refuses to go for a walk if he knows it is raining.

He still follows me around the house, but he learned to enjoy his free time as well. He is a real sweetheart. Sometimes when i look a him i wonder, what kind of people could give him up. He is adorable dog.

The only problem which is not going away, is Dilly not liking any other dogs. He is with us almost a year, however he sill get very angry and jealous with other dogs being around.

Do you think fostering a little female might help?

Cathy, i think we can give it a try. I was going to text you. Do you have anyone available?
I do not think size matters for Dilly, as he reacts the same. I think middle sized dog would be even better, because he at least doesn’t have enough courage get into the fight.
