I am writing to you from the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN). We’re not sure if you are aware of our big event that’s coming up on Sunday, August 26th in Dublin. It’s our fifth national march and rally against cruelty to animals and previous events have always been amazing. I don’t need to remind you as to how much cruelty takes place here in Ireland, and I don’t need to remind you as to how cruel some people can be towards animals – but when will all this suffering stop? In ARAN’s view we do not have any adequate animal protection laws to stamp out cruelty to animals, people merely get fines or a slap on the wrist if they are apprehended for abusing an animal and sometimes left off completely. We are aware of the new and revised Animal Health and Welfare Bill, but it doesn’t do very much to put an end to some of the worst abuses happening in this country. We need to ensure our legislators know that we’re serious about animal abuse and we want them to actually do something about it, words are nothing actions are everything.
I am writing to invite you along to ARAN’s biggest march yet. We’ve got lots of reputable animal welfare and rescue groups from across Ireland attending this very special day – we are hoping it will bring our movement together in our efforts to stamp out animal abuse! There’s only so much we can do as a movement to pick up the pieces of a cruel society – we must start lobbying to get proper legislation or else we’ll be running around in circles for the rest of our lives helping abused animals without first trying to prevent the cruelty in the first place.
I have attached a poster with more information on the event, and here is a really great rally promotional video which doesn’t include any cruelty. Here is a great TV3 news coverage link from our event back in 2008. I really do hope that you and members and supporters of your group will attend this special, big event that will yet again peacefully march through Dublin City Centre, it’s a not-to-be missed event. Make every effort you can to be there and please feel free to bring your rescued dogs along too – it’s the animals’ day. Here is ARAN’s Facebook events page for the day, https://www.facebook.com/events/318885771534783/.

It would be nice if it made a differenceAugust 26, 2012 at 9:51 pm #111147dogsruleMemberI went today with my sister, we arrived late and hopped in at Cleary’s. I think it was lovely that it was a calm and peaceful protest which in itself does so much to change people’s perceptions. There were many onlookers taking photos of the super dogs who attended. There was a sense that they could approach the march and ask questions. The children who came along and took part were great and give hope to me. The different groups there were an education to me, some were there because they think using animals in the circus is wrong, others like PETA, against vivisections. Then there were the people there who had a lot on their plate, like the lady who was pushing her dog in a pushchair because she’d had a stroke. It was well organised by ARAN
August 27, 2012 at 10:14 am #111160JennyMemberA great day – peaceful well organised walk with a good humoured atmosphere. Many organisations attended including Dogs in Distress. I was approached by a number of people from the sidelines who enquired how they could get involved.
