    From Abbys family :D :D

Just thought I would share with you a gift I gave to my partner on his birthday at the weekend. It was a big milestone one and wanted something special. I found this artist on the internet and had the below drawing done for him in pencil from a photo of our lovely Abby. With the silly season looming I think its a really nice special gift for someone, as I think he did a really good job.

    His website is http://www.davegleeson.net

    Hi,

We have our wonderful Abby girl for three years now. Time just flies and she is just as happy and playful as ever. We went to Achill in the summer as we always do and were lucky to get a house with lots of fenced in land and a cattle grid on the gateway that she was afraid to put a paw on. This was great as she could ramble in and out of the house as much as she wanted and lots of room to play ball, which she is obsessed with. She would run for hours after a ball. She is still not keen on the sea but loves the lake. It is lovely and shallow and she loves to chase after other dogs and the ball in the quiet water.

She has this really funny thing when we change the bed, she jumps straight onto it as soon as the sheet is taken off and rolls around looking for belly rubs. Then waits until its made and does the same thing. Stretches right out and rolls around as if it was made for her

She loves all her toys and has different ones for playing with other dogs and others she just flings around the place. Its funny she never rips up toys, she loves to play with them then usually lie on Bunny, or Teddy, or other various soft toys in various states of repair !!

Moo is a favourite for tug of war games.

Benny (Elijah) the little foster we had last year has been back with us a few times since for his holidays. Himself and Abby are firm friends now and their last holiday in August for ten days was just so easy. They had a great time together and seem to just pick up where they left off. Abby’s other best pal is bruce my nephews dog. A lab cross who is very big and a big softy. They get on great but the energy they create in our small house can be a bit much because of his size, otherwise he is the perfect mate for her. I still hope that some day I will win the battle of the 2nd dog as Abby is always very happy when she has doggy company.

Abby was great at the weekend with the fireworks and bangers. She wasnt bothered at all about them. Unfortunately Bruce was staying that night and was terrified poor pet. So lots of music and cuddles were in order.

The only problem we have with Abby now is her barking at the doorbell and being very terratorial. If you didnt know her you would think you were going to be devoured by some enormous dog. We have tried to address this problem ourselves but without much sucess. I think we will get some professional advice as she gets quite anxious when she hears the bell or someone knocks on the door. She can go from being asleep to being at the door barking like a mad dog in seconds. No problem with people she knows, she is over friendly if anything, but also barks when people are leaving.
So all in all Abby is a happy dog and makes us smile every day with her funny quirks and mad play. We cannot imagine how it would be without her.

Have two more pics but cant seem to add them here but will in another post.

    Hi there,

We are just back from our annual holiday in Achill. Abby had a great time as Scrappy was with us this year for the first time. They had great fun playing and tearing around the place, both inside and out. It is only when you have two dogs for some time. We now have Scrappy for nearly six months. You really see how they benefit from each others company. Abby is so good with Scrappy. There is rarely a growl between them and when there is it is usually when Scrappy robs a rawhide bone from Abby. She is such a good girl to tolerate this little terror we brought into the house. I think most of the time they really love being together and sometimes Abby just wants her own space.
For this reason Abby is walked alone sometimes just to let her have full attention. We cannot let Scrappy off the lead as you may have read from his exploits on holidays. So its a long extended lead for him.

It was funny, we obviously brought their beds with us which were hardly used as Abby discovered bunk beds and decided to sleep on the bottom one, and of course she had her sidekick with her. They are very good and slept very well and didnt wake until late which was great as we all had late nights. I think the fresh air knocked them out and the wine knocked me out :) :)

We reckon Abby is now around 5 and continues to have really good health except from injuring her dew claw on both front legs a few times. She is obcessed with a ball and when it is thrown she skids along the ground to stop and retreive it and has snagged both dew claws and her upper pads a few times. We had hoped the vet would remove the dew claws but one said yes and another said no, so it wasnt done. I wonder has anyone else had this problem and have any advice ?

I am adding just a few pictures, poor Abby is rarely alone now so the little maggot is with her.

    Hi,

We cant believe it is 4years since we got Abby. 1st November was the date. We didnt move her until after Haloween as she was spooked enough. She has grown into a truly lovely girl who is so gentle. The only time I have seen her angry is when another dog has taken her ball. She isvery possessive over them. Dogs that are with us are fine but dogs out on the green are a big NO. ;) ;) ;) ;)

In January we fostered/adopted Scrappy a male Bichon Frise. She was so good with him in the beginning . She was very interested in him but careful. Not like now when I see Scrappys head disappearing into her mouth when playing. They rough around the house like lunatics and then pass out for a couple of hours.

I always thought that Abby was quite happy as an only dog and my partner certainly was quite against getting a second dog as he adores and is adored by Abby. Anyway Scraps came and Abby is a much happier dog having him here. There was no way would we have kept him if there was any trouble with them. Scrappy is stuck to Abby like gum. Where she goes , he goes. It is very funny to watch them together. I think the love is a little one sided on Scrappy’s side as sometimes Abby gives him a look at if to say "Give Me Space"!!! :!: :!: :!:

We went on holidays to the west and they had a great time. Scrappy just kept his nose to the ground. He is a real sniffer.

Abby is a gentle girl and a great sister for Scrappy and may they have many years ahead of them.

:D A lovely dog family. I do wonder whether Abby is slightly ‘shame-faced’ by Scrappy’s holiday antics :? Abby, you are obviously adored, especially by your father and take heart, I laughed my head off while reading about Scrappy’s holiday adventures

Thanks Indianna, Scraps certainly is a little devil it is Abby who is adored by her Gerry alright and also little Scraps. They all lie on the couch at night. That picture is early evening sleep. Then madness, then ends up beside Gerry. Abby stretched and Scrappy on a cushion to he can see all around.

This picture I have to add as I think it is so funny. Bruce is the big guy abby’s official boyfriend. Scrappy just looked at him when they arrived and barked at him. Im not sure Bruce knew what he was as he was under him at one stage barking. Bruce just ignored the barking and they all chased around for a while. Its such fun to watch.

Scrappy’s latest naughtiness was the other night when he came upstairs licking his lips like a real happy chappy. He had delved into a partially frozen chicken that was de-frosting on the counter. We would never have thought of Abby taking it because she just wouldnt but this little fairy walked in and if he could talk he would probably say ‘yummy chicken thanks"

Last but not least. We were watching a movie about 4 weeks ago and in strolls Mr.Scraps. I know he had someting in his mouth and said it to Gerry as he headed for the couch. He jumped up and faced the corner of the couch. Gerry had a look and what did he have only Gerry’s false Teeth      They were up beside the bed in a glass. The little fecker had taken them down and thought they were very interesting. Thankfully no permanent damage. Gerry would kill me if he knew I typed this subject. So be quiet all please :!: :!: :!:
