DSCN2288.JPGrobroosMemberFirst I want to thank all of you for your lovely comments to the little home video about Luna and Jessy. It has been some time now since the last post and the reason for this is that life has been hectic not just for us, but I think for a lot of you because of the severe weather we had over the last weeks.
Wednesday the 12th of February was the day of a really severe storm we had here with winds up to 150km per hour and gusts up to 175km per hour. I work only 2 days a week and those days both dogs come with us to work. At 11 we had our tea break and of course the dogs were running around like maniacs because somehow the wind got them worked up and it was hilarious to watch, unfortunately I was not able to take any pictures at that point. We were a little afraid that Luna would be blown over but she run around quite happily although she was running with her body in a 45 degree angle Not for 1 second were either of the dogs insecure or scared, they just loved it!! But at one point the wind got so bad that we had to find a save location and go for shelter, at that point the wind was so strong that Rob carried Luna. We spent about 2 hours in hiding and the dogs were just great about it, no whining or nagging, they just waited it out. I will see if I can add a picture or 2 about that.Luna is doing fantastic!. She is growing like weed and her energy levels are through the roof! There is nothing she likes more then running around the garden at full speed trying to keep up with Jessy.
And on occasion the neighbours dog joins in and we have 3 ecstatic dogs chasing each other, all taking turns in being chased and being the chaser
She already has learned so much, she knows the commands,
sit – down – stay – shake – leave it and she lets go of whatever she has in her mouth when you tell her to and is already pretty good in walking on the lead. But when she has to do something that she doesn’t like, she will obey but she gives you what we call
‘the look’. The Look is when she looks at you with eyes full of sorrow and disappointment and actually manages to make us feel guilty, and the things is …. she knows that!! And to top it all off she will gives a little whine, when she lays down and gives you the look. She truly is a smart one! When she is giving you her paw she does it like she is a lady of high standards who will allow us peasants the pleasure of her attention. When we ask for a shake, she looks at us like she is saying … really ?! and then slowly, like in slow motion lifts her paw and carefully gives it to you. It is soooo funny, Jessy is really enthusiastic with giving her paw, but Lune truly acts like a lady of royal blood. But don’t worry, we make sure she is not going to be a snotty girlLike every dog she wants to be a part of everything, whether it is cleaning or doing repairs in the house, she checks everything that you are using and because Jessy is exactly the same it is hard sometimes to get things done because. But we use that and try to teach them to help us, Jessy loves carrying stuff and it does not matter what you give her, heavy tools, buckets, socks, whether it is metal or wood or plastic, she carries everything you give her. She specifically takes pride in carrying my car keys, I have a fluffy key hanger and she actually pulls it out of my hand and she know to which car it belongs. Jessy will help to put dirty clothes in the laundry basket or help you carry them to the washing machine and if I carry an armload of clothes to the table to fold them she will pick up after me if I loose something on the way and I do not even have to tell her. Luna is starting to do the same although we have one problem now and that is that Luna wants to carry what Jess has and Jess wants to carry what Luna has, which means that halve of the time they carry one sock together which by the time I get it is twice the size it should be and then they race back to get the other one. But in time that will sort itself out as well.
A few weeks ago I took Luna to her first shoot. Rob goes clay pigeon shooting on a regular basis and Jessy loves that, she is not impressed by the bangs at all and to her it indicates great fun. And do not worry, they are all very careful and she is never in any danger what so over. But … and this is something again she did by herself .. Jessy waits till they have shot of the clays and she know exactly when it is save and then she goes into the field and fetches all the clays that the guys missed and brings them back. She actually retrieved so many that it is starting to save money and the guys started to ask Rob … why didn’t you bring Jess?? And a few weeks ago I went to one of the shoots and took both dogs. I started about a mile away and slowly very slowly I brought Luna closer. It took me about 45 minutes to do the mile, but I did not want to rush her, but she did not care at all. Not one single time she flinched or hesitated, she was just immensely curious. I still kept a reasonable distance from the actual shoot, because I believe that she is still a little too small to come really close, but she did great and of course we have Jess to thank for that as well, because Luna copies her in everything she does. We love our girls, they are really great and they already are like an old married couple, where there is one, there is another.
I have added some pictures again and in time I will try to put together another short home video about them. Oh and by the way girls from DID thanks for thinking of us as well when you were looking for a place for Luna. Our pack is now complete

DSCN2100.JPGrobroosMemberI have made a short video about Luna which can be watched on YouTube,
here is the link for you to watch it. I hope you will like it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAomVwQf … e=youtu.berobroosMemberAnother update about Luna and I think you all will be amazed, I know we are. I was looking at the picture from a few weeks ago and I could not believe how much she has grown already. It is sooo funny to watch, she does not really look like a puppy anymore but she is like a miniature lab. She is full of life, loves the walks we take together and loves running after her big sis even though she is not even close in keeping up with her. They have become unseperable. Where there is one there is another, but lucky for us they are not clingy, no matter how much they love to spend time together they are not bothered when we separate them, because sometimes that happens when you have to take one to the vet or when we are at work, Luna is still too small to run around the whole day, so she spends a lot of the working hours with me in the office and sometimes when she is outside with Rob, she comes to the office on her own initiative and wants to be inside with me. She goes straight to her bed and sleeps for an hour or so and then she is ready again to go outside and join Jessy and Rob. She is a smart little thing, Jessy and Luna love to play together but because Jess is still so much bigger then Luna(and Jessy is a big girl!) she can not win and gets really frustrated about that, but she won’t give up! If you could hear them play together it sounds really scary Jess has the deepest growl you can imagine for a friendly dog and when they are playing you would think she is wrestling a burgler
Luna is now so big that she can get on the couch and sometimes she takes a run towards you, lands on your lap and smothers you with kisses. The people who have dogs probably know what I mean when I say, that they can have a smile on their face in certain situations?? Well that is one of the situations that Luna has a huge grin on her face. I am sorry that this is just a short write up but I am a firm believer in the fact that a picture is worth a thousand words. so here they are and enjoy them!

DSCN1968.JPGrobroosMemberToday it is exactly 3 weeks ago that Luna became part of our family and it is like she has always been with us. It is amazing how quickly you get used again to having 2 in stead of 1 dog running around. Today we were walking them in the forest and Rob said … isn’t it amazing how many more times a day you smile now you have a little pup running around? And he is right. It is not that we could not laugh about Jessy, Oh noooo, she made us laugh so many times, but it is the interaction of the 2 of them. We see Jessy act in ways we have not seen before and it is just soooo much fun to watch.
The way those 2 dogs are playing with each other is hilarious, they run through the house, through the garden chasing each other and sometimes they both lay on their backs with their heads close to each other and it almost looks like they are fencing with their mouths, I simply have no other way of describing it. They really enjoy each other.
This week was the first week that Luna went with us to work. The first day she was a little shy, so many strange people and weird animals it all was a little overwhelming for her. She had the tendency to want to hide in a corner, but luckily we were prepared. We made sure we had some healthy tiny bits of treats with us and gave everybody a treat and it only took half a day before she happily let strangers approach her. Brave little girl!! It was also the first time that she met the other dogs at work and like we expected that was no problem at all. At one point during our lunch break, we took the dogs to a field to play ball en Luna participated with as much enthusiasm as the others, but because she is still a pup, sometimes she would got run over by the 2 other dogs and if Jessy would see that, she would drop her ball instantly and would run to Luna and place herself between Luna and the dog who run her over and that made my heart swell with pride!! Jessy plays endlessly with Luna and she is so patient with her, it is amazing. Luna follows her anywhere, jumping up to her head, goes for her lovely floppy ears and Jessy allows it all up to a certain level although sometimes to me it looks like pure harassment But seriously? They get along great, they sleep together side by side. Overall this is the best thing that could have happened not only for Luna but for Jessy as well.
Luna is for 98% house trained, she is so good that Rob (I went to bed a little earlier than Rob did) decided that he wanted to take a chance and let Luna sleep outside her cage, so he left Jessy and Luna overnight in the kitchen and when I came in the kitchen the following morning I checked for any accidents and we are very very proud to let you know that there were NONE!!! isn’t she the best??
We drop by the vet last Tuesday to have her weighed and she already was 7.8 kg!!!!! and I would not be surprised that by now she is over 8kg already. She looks fabulous, her coat is shining and she has loads of energy, lots of love and cuddles to share and just in general she enjoys live and that is how it should be!
We will keep you posted and hopefully you will be able to see the difference already between the early pictures and the recent ones!

DSCN1924.JPGrobroosMemberToday Luna has gotten her second vaccination and is now fully protected which means that from the weekend onwards we will be able to take her places and let her interact with other dogs as well and to be honest .. we can not wait.
For all of you who are curious, Luna weighed in this morning at 6.95 kg and it kept switching back and forth between that and 7 kg. Our vet was mighty impressed with her again and gave her a check up just to be sure and he stated that she was one healthy lucky puppy although a little small for 3 and a halve months, which is because of her having Parvo but she is working very hard to catch up. Her head and chest fur has fully regrown and is now thick and glossy but the fur on her behind and back legs still needs a little more time to fully grow back, but she has lost the skinny look already and we are so proud of her, she is such a courageous little thing. But to be honest … she is a handful as well, but we love that in her. She is a true hoarder. Over the last couple of days we have taken away from her – socks from the laundry basket – jeans which was hanging on the radiator to dry – boots and more boots and really big ones too – I can not even count anymore the number of shoes she brought to her bed – tea towels and that is only a part of it.
Over the last few days we have been taken her to a wooded area close by, which was save for her because it is a private woodland. She loved it, she loves being outside any way, it is so cute the way she sits on the doorstep and just checking everything, everything and anything interests her. But her most favourite thing to do is chasing the cats around and her 2nd favourite thing is follow Jessy and copy everything that she does She is such a smart little girl, we have not had any pee or poo accidents for days now. I think part of that is because we take her outside on very recognisable times for her but I am convinced that the bigger part is that she already understands that she needs to do her business outside and not inside.
On occassion if you see Jessy and Luna play together you just have to contain yourself to not interfere because the size difference is enormous and Jessy sometimes gets very excited and races through the garden like an idiot on steroids Sometimes she runs full speed towards Luna and you can only hold your breath at these moments but it always works out fine. Luna just dives down and becomes like a floor mat and Jess jumps over her, I think they both enjoy that weird game and they both understand which part they play in that game …. Thank God for thatToday we took her to the beach because the tide was low and there was not danger for her getting anything but wet feet. It was hilarious to watch. Jessy loves the beach, she loves the water and whenever she has the chance she will get her feet wet. The very first time we had to cross some water with Luna, she was walking through it like a cat would do, it was really funny, but it only took her moments before she romped about and had the time of her life, she walked into the waves and like a true lab, she loved it. I have added some pictures and I can not make any promises but I will try to get a short movie of Luna and Jess together in time and put it on youtube and will give DID the link and it will be up to them if they will place that link on the blog. This is it for now but I promise I will keep you posted.

DSCN1751.JPGrobroosMember!Christmas miracle
We are Rob and Rosita and we are the lucky new mom and dad of Freya, now known as Luna.
We are living in Dingle and we went to Dublin the weekend before Christmas to pick her up. In all fairness we were a little worried if we were doing the right thing, because Luna had been a very very sick puppy and we were not sure if it was the right thing to do just in case she would always be a little sickly. The reason that that worried us was that our other dog Jessy who we also got through Dogs in Distress is a very active yellow lab and which ever doggie would join us, he or she should be able to keep up with her, but the girls from DiD were to so helpful and understanding and very honest, so there we were, 5 hours from home, nervously waiting for a pup we had never met. But the second we looked in that beautiful little face we just knew it was the right thing to do for all involved and fell head over heals in love with her.
We were amazed by how well Luna did during the travel and when we got home, we expected some shyness and for her to be at least a little insecure. Boy … were we wrong She walked through the house like she new that she finally got home. Soooo adorable.
Jessy is a very social dog but the first few days, she did not really know what to think of Luna. It was the size of a cat, but it did not act like one. It acted like a dog, but it was way too small to rump about with, it all confused her a little and at times she got a little irritated because of that. But curiousity won and it only took her days to adjust to the fact that she needed to hold back a little.
Jessy and Luna love to play tug of war, but on occasion it becomes a different game called ‘swing the pup’ or ‘mop the floor’
Luna is amazing, the first 2 days we had regular poop and pee accidents, but already she is starting to nudge us when she needs to go and during the nights we have had 0 accidents and yesterday and today are clean days as well which is quite amazing for such a little thing. We take it slow with her, give her all the time to adjust, but I truly believe that she will continue to surprise us on every level.
We took her to our vet on Monday just for her to have a look at her and she was very impressed not only with how well she was doing physically after such a difficult start, but also with her behaviour and to top it all off she gained 0.75 kg in weight over just 4 days. While I am writing this, Luna just got her 2nd feed for the day and is lying on my jumper on the floor happily chewing a puppy bone. God … she is such a lovely little thing, but a hand full We have fallen into the rhythm of taking turns in puppy duty, so that we both can take some time with Jess or just relax while the other one runs after Luna, takes her out and is rolling over the floor with either one or 2 dogs. You know … words on paper are simply not enough to explain how much we already love her, how we enjoy having 2 dogs again and how adorable it is to see Jessy adjust to having a little one around. I promise I will keep you updated on a regular basis, but for now we wish you all a very happy Christmas from Rob & Rosita, Jessy & Luna and Bo & Kim (2 rescue cats)

IMG_0535.JPGrobroosMemberYesterday 16 July the day finally arrived when we could bring our newest family member home. Peaches now Jessy, is simply adorable. We had a long drive ahead of us from Dublin to Dingle and did not know what to expect with a 6 month old puppy.
She was the best!!! The first hour she layed on my lap in the car (normally not something I would advise) but it was perfect for Jessy to get familiar with our scent. While she was lying on my lap, totally relaxed she kept touching Rob my husband who was driving either with her nose or paws. After about an hour, we took our first stop and after that we put her in the back of the car, she was soo good, she only tried to climb up to us about 4 times and after some stern but gentle corrections she settled and fell asleep. It took us 6 hours to drive back home and not once did she get upset in any way. Almost at the end of the drive, we stopped at the pet shop for a new collar, we took her in to measure and all the staff were at her command, she is too cute to resist.
When we got home, and introduced her to her new house, it was like a warzone We have 2 cats and they were the only ones who did not sucumbe to her charmes But after about an hour they have agreed on some ground rules as only animals can.
Her lovely foster mom told us we probably would some difficulties during the night because it would be the first time she would be without doggie companions, but were we in for a surprise.
We introduced her to a crate which we had set up at the foot end of the bed and after 10 minutes of trying to convince us, she needed to be on the bed with us, she settled for the night without any problems what so ever. No accidents over the night and when we carried her downstairs and went outside with her, she did a very long pee and a big number 2. She is such a good little girl.
We love her to bits, I did not think I would be ready so quickly for a new doggie after we lost our other girl just a few weeks ago. They can never be replaced, but Jessy is never meant to be a replacement, she is a new beginning for all of us. While I am writing this, she lays under the desk just being Jessy, which means just being happy. She is a smart boisterous little thing and we can not get enough her. This morning we took her for a walk on the beach and let her off leash for the first time, although we will need to work on the fact that she runs towards every people and every dog she encounters, she was more than happy to return to us.
I think it was the little treats we slipped into our pockets just in case We will keep you posted about how she is doing, but one thing is for sure, after just one day, she has a never ending huge place in our heart!
