Sorry didn’t have a pic of that dog but hope by now it is back home. Twiggy has had his 3rd op the 2nd one on the right leg. Fingers crossed all will go well this time. Couldn’t bare to put him through this ordeal again. Don’t know who feels worse him or me. He is such a little tyke. But heals quickly and is happy once back home from the vet’s. Paul has been great with him. Must be so difficult to do op on such little legs. Great vet and so good with Twiggy. I really appreciate it and the help for D.I.D. Couldn’t do it without them.
Baily : is doing so well. Great now with going into the great outdoors to ‘do his buisness’. Very quick to please but still a little nervous. Runs away at times when you try to stroke him or lift him up. Wont come up close to you when he is called, even for a treat. Also doesn’t like the stroking to continue on down to his tail. Wonder was it pulled on a regular basis . I’m sure he will come around to understanding he is totally safe here eventually. Just needs patience and a gentle touch. We have loads of time, so no problem. He has put on weight now and the little collar he came with wont fit anymore. His coat is in much better condition and I’m sure Kathy wouldn’t know him if she saw him now. Loves his food but still takes it from the dish to bed to eat on occasions and runs away from the dish if anyone passes. I try to feed him when there is no one else around and give him the quiet he needs
Two great little guys, wouldn’t be without them.PhilandAngelaMemberHi everyone,
Just a little updat on Twiggy. Unfortunately he has had his right leg operated on for the second time . Op on left one worked a treat and it is now straight and normal. Right one shot out again and he had great difficulty with it. But Paul (his wonderful vet) felt there might be more difficulty sorting the right one. Should mention here both back legs were out of kilter since birth. It was two weeks yesterday since his op. Had his stitches out on Monday, 7 of them. Quite a few for such a little guy and the second scar on this leg. He is a brave little guy and seems to heal very quickly. He needs to be kept quiet (not an easy task since he runs everywhere with the leg up) Problem is he tends to put it down quite a bit and heads for steps and stairs (both out of bounds) if I blink. Also attempts to jump up on the armchair into his ‘sunny spot’. June (a good friend of D.I.D) gave me a canvas crate which is a godsend. I am very greatful to her, thanks you again June.
I hope that this time all will go well and with careful management the ‘leg/cruciate’ will heal and Twiggy will be a happy little man. It certainly doesn’t stop his fun and he is a happy little fellow once the pain bit is over. He reacts immediately we stop the car at Paul’s by shaking from head to foot . I hate putting him through it but have been told it is necessary for him especially as he gets older.
Would just like to mention here how greatful I am to D.I.D. and especially Kathy for all their help with Twig . Couldn’t have done it without them. Paul will see him again in 3 weeks for check up. Fingers crossed all will be well. He is getting all the love, care and attention he needs and Baily is very gentle with him, almost like he understands. Thanks again D.I.D. for allowing us to give both little fellows a home and for all your help. Couldn’t imagine life without them now.PhilandAngelaMemberQuick update on the boys. They are in great form. Bailey has put on a little weight (he was quite skinny when he came home) which I am delighted with and he is now loving his food. Wouldn’t eat much at all when we first had him.
Taking Twiggy to see the vet again for an opinion on his back right leg as it is still a little off kilter even after the op. Still it’s so much better than it was and the left one is great. The legs certainly don’t stop him he is so lively and playful, runs mad all over the house and loves wrestling with Bailey.
Quick mention about a missing chihuahua. I met a lady in my vets who had lost her brown (red) and white little lad on Dollymount beach. Felt so bad for her. If anyone reading this has seen or heard of one being found if you contact Dogs in Distress I can give her details. Can only imagine how I would feel if either of my two little boys went missing.PhilandAngelaMemberTwiggy stills rules the roost despite his troublesome little legs, but Bailey well able to hold his own in the rough and tumble. Bailey is definitely better with the eating but still feels the need to run from his dish if anyone happens to pass while he eats also takes food out of the dish and hides to eat it. I’m sure that will change when he gets more confidence. Also still hides when you want to pick him up for going outside or at bedtime.
We still have some issues with the toilet training. He has no idea yet about asking to go out and if not watched will wee and poo wherever is handy. Difficult over the snowy time. Had to keep clearing a path for them to ‘go’ and it was usually done within 4 inches of the back step. Who would blame them in that cold.
They are such fun and play happily together and look for each other when one or the other goes out of a room. Also usually end up on the same lap together. They are two great little characters, chalk and cheese. One full of madness and fun (Twiggy) the other a quiet refined gentleman (Bailey). I am beginning to think Bailey is quite a bit older than first thought. Far too quiet for 1 1/2 years, which would have him more or less the same age as Twiggy.
Maybe he is quiet because of all the disruption in his life and will suddenly join in the mayhem of Twiggy’s world. They are great little fellows and loved to bits. Thanks again Kathy for everything.
Will keep you posted.
PhilPhilandAngelaMemberThanks everyone for your good wishes and especially to Kathy for her kindness. Baily (aka Fernando) is now Twiggy’s best friend. Since Twiggy recovered from his second op they ‘charge’ around the house, which is good as they haven’t had any walkies over the snowy period.
They hate it and are so small tend to disappear into it. They shake with the cold particularly Twiggy who has no hair on his chest or tum. Thankfully back with the walks again since the week-end suitabily coated! The get loads of attention when out walking, particularly when they have their coats on.
Will get my daughter’s to pass on a photo. They are loved to bits and we can’t imagine life without them now. They minute my bum hits a chair they are both over for their cuddle and would stay there forever if I had nothing else to do.My grandchildren also love them especially Adam my 3 year old grandson. Twiggy can be a little grumpy with them if he is getting attention or on someone’s lap. Has improved a great deal since Baily arrived. Baily eating much better and putting on weight. Twiggy’s weight may become a problem as he would eat continually, and he too was hard pushed to eat when we first had him home. Just looking at the past photo’s of him he had a much better figure. I put it down to no exercise over the duration of the two operations and of course followed by the snow.
Hope to put this to rights from now on. They are both very happy and it gets better every day.
PhilandAngelaMemberFernando (new name to come) has settled in happily. It’s like he has always lived here. Making himself at home and is such a pet. A real softie. Have had two slight snaps from Twig, who is asserting his position but he is quietly ignored by F so all well. They enjoy their walks together and F is starting to eat better than I expected. He is quite thin. We just love having him, a sweetheart
