Jake is a lovely little fella, we had him for a few days and he got on great with the two Akitas and used to play with Kuma so he’s a brave little man. Hope he finds his forever home soon.
martinacareyMemberKuma is getting on great, she’s such a great foster dog and there’s no minding on her at all. Her and Kas are getting on great and it’s been so long since Kas had a foster dog she could play with properly. Kuma loves to play and when she gets really excited she runs around the garden all crazy it’s so funny to watch. It must be an Akita thing coz Kas does the crazy run thing too. She loves her walks and also loves her sleep. She’s getting spayed on Monday so I hope she’s ok and not too confused when we leave her into the vets.
martinacareyMemberHere’s before and after pics of Kuma just so you can all see how much she’s improved since we’ve had her.

martinacareyMemberHere’s some updated pics of Kuma.
Little and Large
martinacareyMemberKuma is getting on great now, she’s putting on weight but still has some more to put on. Her hair has grown back now and the difference in her now compared to when we first took her home from the pound. We hope to get her spayed soon and hopefully find her a lovely forever home. She’s going to be hard to say goodbye to though as she’s such a sweetheart! She loves her cuddles and gives loads of kisses and is so playful. We have a little stray yorkie with us at the moment and she’s even playing with him and being more gentle realising how small he is! She’s very well behaved, the only thing she still does is go through the bins looking for food so we just put the bins in the hall when we leave the house. Even though she’s getting fed now she still hasn’t forgot how she used to survive scavaging for food the poor thing. It’s not a huge problem and I know she will get out of it, it’s only happened a couple of times and only when we weren’t there and she’s not just being destructive it’s just how she learned to survive. I’ll post up some new pics of her soon.

martinacareyMemberJasper went to his new home on Tuesday night and it was a teary goodbye coz he was such a sweetheart. But we’ve talked to his new family and they are madly in love with him so we’re happy he’s happy! Hopefully we’ll bump into him around St Annes park sometime
martinacareyMemberJasper is getting on really well and we finally started remembering to bring tennis balls on our walk and he loves running after the ball! Kas doesn’t chase balls and Kuma prefers to chase the dog that’s chasing the ball but at least Jasper gets it and brings it back. The other two don’t stand a chance against him trying to catch it. He really likes his walks and loves when we take out his lead and sits wagging his tail as you put it on. I hope he finds his forever home soon and whoever adopts him will be very lucky!
martinacareyMemberWell Kuma’s getting on great. She didn’t like being left on her own at first but she’s grand on her own now or with Kas and she loves sleeping on the couch so she’s happy to be left now and catch a few Zzz’s. She’s starting to look better, she’s putting on weight but it’s a bit of a slow process and her hair is starting to grow back and her coat in general is improving alot. She loves her food and can’t eat enough most times. We also discovered how true to her intelligent breed she is, we’ve heard and read stories of Akita’s that can get up to all kinds of things and she’s been surprising us with a few things! She can escape out of the cage, that wasn’t a problem to her. She can open doors, presses but only the ones that have the dog food. Then when we got around these little things we came home from dinner the other night to find she had taken the lid off the bin and taken out a few empty things to see what goodies she could find! We just laughed, if you had of seen how neatly she had laid things out on the floor and didn’t even knock the bin over. She’s a neat thief at least We gave her a bath too and she was very well behaved and didn’t even try to get out. Here’s some pics of her first bath!
martinacareyMemberRuby went to her new home on Sunday and she’s settled in straight away which is good to hear! It was sad saying goodbye to her but we’re happy she got a great home. Best wishes in your new home Ruby xxx
Here she is playing with Kuma before she left
martinacareyMemberJaspers playmate Ruby went to her new home on Sunday but he’s happy to have all the snuggles to himself. He seems a bit quieter and calmer since she left, I think he seen her as competition for affection even though they got on very well. I don’t think he necessarily needs to be in a home with other dogs, he would be happy with other dogs but I think he’d be fine on his own too. He’s quite nervous and reminds me of a collie my sister had. Her dog ran off on her when she left him outside her friends house and she found him later in the park where she walks him. I think he was waiting for her to come out and as more and more time passed he probably thought he missed her coming out and went looking for her panicking, he was so relieved when he seen her. I think Jasper is like that and we’ve had him a few weeks now and I left him out the back the other day for the first time for a few hours and he was grand but he’s had time to settle in with us and I’d left him in the house anytime I left until I was sure he was ok which I tend to do with all the dogs when it’s a new place for them. And even when he was left in the house there was no accidents too. Loads of people admire him when we have him out, he reminds most people of a dog they’ve had growing up. He’ll be great company for someone so I hope he finds his forever home soon. Here’s some recent pics!
martinacareyMemberRuby was spayed last Thursday and didn’t like her collar but she’s used to it now and just trying to keep her calm so she doesn’t open her scar! She’s going to her new home on Sunday and we will miss her so much. She’s calmed down so much since she’s been here and I think Kas has helped her grow up by showing her what she can do and what not to do! We’ll miss her bubbly personality and her snuggling up to us on the couch, she’s great for keeping you warm when taking a little afternoon nap on the couch there will be a lot of tears on Sunday but we’re glad she’s going to a good home!
martinacareyMemberJasper is getting on great, he loves his cuddles and comes over while you’re sitting on the couch and sits in front of you for a pat. And if you don’t notice he’ll give you the paw as some extra persuasion! He loves his walks and meeting new dogs and people. He loves playing with balls, chasing them and even playing football. He got it to balance on his nose for a few seconds the other day which was very impressive! I’m sure he’ll miss playing with Ruby when she goes to her new home on Sunday but he’ll still have Kas for some games of chasing!
martinacareyMemberWell Jasper is getting on great and I think he’s loving living with the two girls! Himself and Ruby are playing all the time. He’s great on the walks and we’ve let him off a few times and his recall is great. I’ll put up some pics of him!
