Thanks for your good wishes Twist and yes, you are most certainly getting it right at DID! It’s a brilliant organisation doing terrific and most needed work. Your care and concern is self evident. I’m sure Baxter would not be such an emotionally stable boy if he had not received such loving foster homes along the way to us.
Isn’t he the most shiny gorgeous boy! I can’t stop looking at and stroking that silky coat of his. He is such a beauty.
For whatever reason he wasn’t taken before we came along I am so glad for it. He continues to delight us daily as we discover more of his personality and he becomes more comfortable.
He and Mrs White are best buddies now and even play together, very gently on Bax’s part, he seems to understand that a bit of caution is needed. It’s so funny to see them rolling around. She totally accepts him and she gave him a good old wash behind the ears the other day.
Who said cats and dogs can’t be friends?
Keep up the good work, I’m sure you’re right that their is a home for every one of your orphans out there.MaglouMemberLovely to hear from you Emma. I consider that we are the lucky ones that Bax didn’t get snapped up before we came along! He is an incredible dog. Is it less than two weeks we have had him? It seems like he’s been here forever. He has settled into a routine and is slowly getting used to all the unfamiliar noises of a new home. He is on red alert for those but is a great house dog and you can’t but feel safe with him around.
He is starting to feel secure enough to go off on his own and find a nice patch of sunshine in another room for a snooze rather than being attached all the time to my side. You can see him unwinding and there’s nothing I like better than evenings with Bax on the sofa when I can play with his silky ears and he is just so affectionate and gentle.
He has made friends with a Rough Collie he meets on his walk every day and they have a great old time. Today though he didn’t want to play so long and just grabbed his stick and came with us as if to say he would rather be with his family than playing with another dog. It was really strange. He is such a good boy on his walks and only goes a little way ahead of us before trotting back. He is hilarious with his sticks and very discerning about which one he chooses. If it passes muster it very often comes all the way home with us.
I’m sure that when our decorations go up there will be a nose in every single box and bag! There’ll probably be two of them in it as the cat loves all those glittery things too. They are such good friends.
Will give Bax lots of hugs and cuddles from you all Emma. XX
Relaxed Bax and with Mrs W 002.jpgMaglouMemberIt’s great to read your messages of support for Baxter. He really is a lovely boy.
He went to the vet today for his booster but was so afraid and barked and backed away. We managed to get the job done but it just shows how insecure he still is and how much love and support he needs. It makes me shudder to think what in his young life, made him like this. We took him for a long walk afterwards so he could let off steam and he met people and another dog and apart from an initial bark was absolutely fine. He loved playing with the dog.
I get so angry to think how cruel people can be to animals.
I am certain that with continuity and love Baxter will gradually learn not to feel threatened by these kinds of situations and even if he doesn’t like it will be able to cope without extreme reactions.
He is completely flaked out on the sofa at the moment recovering from his big day. He is such a sweetheart.
Relaxed Bax and with Mrs W 003.jpgMaglouMemberHi Emma, yes, this lad is amazing! He is going from strength to strength and is such a happy boy. You said he has personality and for sure he has it in spades. Our other cat is coming around now and although he’s still a bit tentative Bax is pretty good with him.
In the mornings he tends to be so happy to see them he wants to play as he was used to playing with Lucy and Jack and although I keep telling him cats just don’t do all the leapy roll around stuff he is doesn’t believe me!
He loves his walks so much and found a freezing cold pond to jump around in yesterday. Oooh it made me shiver just thinking about it.
He is my constant layabout companion on the couch in the evenings and the perfect hot water doggle!
He is absolutely no trouble whatsoever and has completely slotted in.
Hope you are all well and Lucy and Jack enjoying frolics in the snow.
Bax sends you all big sloppy licks and love from us all XXXMaglouMemberAnother great day and Bax even slept in his own bed last night! What a good boy he is.
He has been asleep with his favourite cat today. She is delighted to have him around and reckons a house is not a home without a pet dog!
(Hers that is )
Norman is still not happy but is getting a little bit braver.Baxter is incredibly beautiful both inside and out and I’m so glad I stumbled across the DID website and saw his gorgeous face looking out at me. The Internet is a wonderful thing!
A few more pics of Bax from yesterday.

We would have adopted all four of you if we could
Those are very kind words and very much appreciated as we know how much you love him and found it difficult to part with him.
I am looking at the beautiful boy now, snoozing on the sofa and still can’t believe our luck in finding him.
Mona from DID came out to visit today and was happy with us, so that’s a big sigh of relief.
Bax has been very busy today meeting Mona and her niece and playing in the garden and going on another big walk and really bonding with Mrs White. The are best buddies now and greet each other like old friends. He was washing her ears today!
He is so relaxed and has been asleep for the last hour on his back with his legs waving in the air.
Nick came home from the shops today with a rubber chicken for Bax. He has been squeaking it and tossing it up in the air and flinging it all around the place and it was absolutely hilarious. He is such a clown.
I will post some more pics tomorrow. I was trying to take some of him with the chicken but he wouldn’t stop long enough for proper shots so they’re a bit wonky but capture the moment.
Thanks everyone for your kind messages, we will keep the posts coming. It is a pleasure to shareMaglouMemberDon’t worry Jojo I will be monitoring the situation! Last night he was curled up more or less at the end of the bed.
We took Bax for a long walk today and as it was so quiet we let him off the lead but were at the ready in case he took off.
He was such a good boy though and trotted along just in front of us and loved chasing sticks and bringing them back to us. It was great to let him be free in such a lovely woodland environment. He just stuck to the track but had a whale of a time sniffing all those wonderful country scents. I had lost my desire to go for walks when my beautiful lab x Paddy died this summer. It was brilliant to be out again today and I know we will have lots of adventures together. Walking just seemed pointless without my buddy.
Bax continues to make progress with my cat Mrs White and they were touching noses today with no barking and she was rubbing up against him. She has just stood firm and it’s a very good tactic. She knows who’s boss! Norman is still worried and keeping a low profile but he will come round eventually.
Bax has been cuddling with me in front of the TV again tonight and has been pretty wiped out by his walk. He is just about ready for bed now.
Here’s a few more pics from today.
I will take some outdoor ones soon and post them up.
It’s fantastic to see how many people are so happy that Bax has his forever home and how his progress has been followed.

Baxta settling in 011.jpgMaglouMemberHi Everybody,
Just wanted to say ‘Hello’ and how happy we are to have Baxter in our family. As soon as we met him we fell in love and he seemed to feel the same. He is one very special boy and I know we are going to have enormous fun together. He has such a great sense of humour and a very large twinkle in his eye! And he is just so handsome!
He was really good travelling back in the van for over two and a half hours and gave us many kisses along the way. He sat in the back between us looking out the front window through the gap.
He is such a well-balanced and well-behaved dog and completely clean in the house. He already tell us if he needs to go out.
He spent a a good deal of last night investigating the garden and has about a quarter acre out the back to roam free and look at cows and sheep through the gate at the bottom. He was straight into the frog pond (heaven help the poor frogs in the spring!) and found an very old and battered football which he proceeded to dribble all over the garden. A very funny sight.
He barked at the cats but Mrs White (alias Britney Spikes) stood her gound and my son said she rubbed up against him this morning. Norman (Bites) may take a little longer to come round but he is getting over the shock a bit now.
We gave him the choice of his own bedding or our bed last night and it doesn’t take much guessing as to which one he chose!
He was really still and quiet though.
He is a really good house dog too and barks when he should.
We could see how happy he was with Emma and Dermot and their two, Lucy and Jack and I think he is wondering where his pals have gone but hopefully he will get used to being an only dog and getting all the attention. They have given him a terrific respite home and so much love and it shows in every way. Poor Emma was in bits when Bax said goobye and Dermot not far behind but I’m sure they know that we will love and care for him as he deserves and give him proper permanent family life.
A big ‘thank you’ to all Bax’s foster families along the way who also gave their hearts as well as their homes to him. It just shows how special he is.
Many thanks also to Kathy who got in touch so quickly after my first email and has been so intuitive and on the ball with arrangements to see him. She is an inspiration to all animal lovers. We are very impressed with the efficiency and boundless care this organisation provides for those in need.
It beggars belief that people can be so cruel and when I touch Bax’s poor mangled ear and look at his beautiful but somewhat forshortened tail I know that he will never have to suffer such indignities ever again.
On the way home last night I said to Nick ‘ I can’t understand why nobody has taken him before now.’
He replied, ‘It’s because he was waiting for us.’
That says it all. It must be fate.
