beach.jpgjenbearMemberI just wanted to give you all a quick update. We’ve had Mia for a year now (and Ollie for 2 and a half!!!) and we can’t remember what our lives were like without her. It really took a good few months for things to settle down between the two but they are finally friends, when Mia isn’t bullying Ollie.
She has changed quite a bit over the last year looks wise from a puppy to an adult. And she is a total demon, diva, terriorist, bully but yet so sweet and adorable. She loves to sit in our arms and just flops her head down on your chest and all the boldness is forgotten.
She’s finally finished going to hydrotherapy after her operation on her hip so we just have to keep an eye on her from now on. I’m attaching some recent photos of the pair so you can see how well she’s doing.
You can add Ollie and Mia as friends on facebook at [url:29e171kx]http://www.facebook.com/OllieAndMia[/url:29e171kx]

pic2.jpgjenbearMemberHi again, Kathy asked me to pop a few of these pics up from a photoshoot for [/url:1z5l8nn5″>. It’s for a book of rescue dogs, with the profits going back to rescues. We had a great morning with Michelle and I LOVE the photos. Mia is doing much better now, got her stitches out last night so no more CONE OF SHAME , thank god! Will need physio and hydrotherapy though before she’s 100%.
jenbearMemberHi all,
Just thought I’d give you a quick update on Mia. We took her to the vet a few weeks ago because she had started limping for no reason and then before the easter weekend she started limping again. This time the vet referred us to a specialist, NOAH in Malahide. He took xrays and discovered that the ball part of her hip joint was crumbling and obviously needed to be replaced so he operated straight away. We brought her home last night and she was pretty miserable but better this morning.Long term she should be ok, but may get arthritis at an early age (looking into fish oil supplements etc. for her). We need to keep her using the leg and putting her weight on it as soon as possible or she might not regain full range of motion but we are willing to do whatever it takes to get her better.
Thank god we have pet insurance (for both of them, Ollie aka PJ has a heart murmur). So if you haven’t got it, I would advise you to. You just never know when you might need it. Mia is only about 10 months old and we would never have considered that she would need surgery and we are just so glad we have the insurance to pay for the operation and any aftercare.
Will keep you updated!!
Jen
jenbearMemberThey look so lovely together. When we got our second dog, I though they’d cuddle up together, but no way does Ollie let Mia that near him to snuggle. I think some dogs just aren’t snugglers. I hope they’ll be very happy together and aren’t causing too much chaos.
jenbearMemberThis little lad is the mischievous one of the bunch. I got to meet him and his siblings last night in Kathy’s. He was just play, play, play with cuddles in between. So cute…
It’s so funny how they all look so different, this guy has definite beagle in him, jay is a total terrier and the other two have nearly spaniel faces with the softest coats.
jenbearMemberI had the pleasure of meeting Jessie and her brothers last night in Kathy’s. I was tempted to hide them all in my bag on the way out, such gorgeous little dotes!
Jessie was so gentle and adorable and happy to be up in my lap or playing with her brothers.
jenbearMemberAw did she try to get under the covers cone and all? When we got Mia (aka Fizz) spayed a few weeks ago she kept bashing the cone off my head in the middle of the night because she couldn’t figure out how to curl up in her usual spot with the cone on. It was not so funny at 2am, so I feel your pain.
February 9, 2011 at 9:25 am in reply to: Best Doggie Christmas Snap Competition**Winner Announced! #91079jenbearMemberI am soooo excited that my beautiful boy has won the competition. He is such a handsome boy and the best friend myself and Rossa could ever have wished for. He’s gonna get lots of extra cuddles today.
And all the other pics are so cute too, I don’t know how you could choose between them all. I only just heard/read that Virgo has passed away, I send my warmest hugs to Leo and their foster parents.
jenbearMemberOoh, I groom Ollie (formerly PJ) who we adopted from DID a year and a half ago and I though a lot of hair came off him. But that is a LOT of hair.
I would assume that anyone thinking of adopting a shih-tzu would realise that they are long haired breeds and that they will need a lot of brushing and grooming. Just something for potential adoptive parents to think about. For the most part Ollie is patient when I brush him, but hates when I do the top of his paws the most.
jenbearMemberHi all,
I’ve finally got all the photos and videos off my old phone, so I thought I’d share the first ever photo I took of Ollie when we met him the first night in Kathy’s house about a year and a half ago. We also met Ollie’s brother JJ at the fun day in 2009, so I’ll upload some photos I took that day too.

P270909_15.040002.JPGjenbearMemberI grew up with King Charles spaniels and I can honestly say they are wonderful dogs. They are so affectionate and loving. She’ll be snapped up in no time I’m sure and DID will find her the most wonderful home to love her and spoil her.
jenbearMemberHazel, you are just the cutest of the cute puppies and I hope you’ll be very happy in your new home!
