Well, it’s offical! The date has rolled around to the 28th of January 2012 and that means that one year ago today we collected a wee bundle of fur from Tracey and brought her home. And what a dog she has grown up into! We were only looking back through all her baby photos today and its then you realize how much she has actually grown and changed in the short time that we have had her.

From the first day she fit in perfectly – even the cat took an amazingly short amount of time to adjust to the new addition to the family. And as I write this now they are both curled up asleep at the end of the bed. Like it has always been this way – it hasn’t been – but one thing I do know for sure is that it will ALWAYS be this way!

We cannot thank Tracey, Audrey and Shirley enough for believing that we were the perfect family for little Jasmine who morphed like a butterfly into the Kali you see now. We hope that you all can see what an excellent decision you made for her – she’s paws down – the happiest dog in the country! But maybe she (and myself!) are a bit biased about that!

Here are some pictures of her birthday "party" that we had for her. It wasn’t much of a fiesta but a super long outing to her favourite place to run was the main event. Followed by a special dinner and a "birthday cake" that I made for her – it smelled horrible but she ate every bit of it so it had to have tasted better than it smelled! It was a beef cake – taken from a dog’s recipe website – topped with cream cheese "nicing" like icing but much more doggy friendly! And then garnished with pieces of cat food (the most special and joyous substance on earth! She’d sell her soul for a promise of a single piece of it!) – So she was super delighted with her cake. And tomorrow she’s getting an all expense paid shopping spree in Maxi Zoo which she’s greatly looking forward to and is already planning to buy a new collar and lots and lots of chews!

    Hi Everyone at D.I.D

Hope you all had a great Christmas! I don’t know about anyone else but I wish it was Christmas every day! The whole day was one thing after another – each more exciting than the next! When I woke up I thought it was just another day – but wow was I wrong! The Humans had been talking about Santa coming to see me – but I had no idea what they were talking about but I didn’t like to think he’d come into MY house on MY watch – but I guess I fell asleep because there was LOADS of presents under the tree that my Humans had said he would bring – so I guess he snuck past me because there were so many under there – and some were even for me!! I must have been a very very good girl this year because I got loads of things to chew (so many I can’t name them all!) a Santa hat and scarf, a new package of tennis balls, a new bed and so many other things – I couldn’t believe how much was just for me! And I loved unwrapping my presents – and I got so carried away that I had to help everyone unwrap their presents!

After all the presents were opened and I had shredded (and stole) all the bits of wrapping paper the Humans missed – they showed me how to pull Christmas crackers – I love tug-of-war games and this was the most fun I’ve ever had! Well, until I had to wear one of the crowns in the cracker – that wasn’t so much fun – but I still tried to pose nicely wearing it – they had to hold treats up in the air so it would stay on my head though! Crowns weren’t made for doggy heads! I really really love crackers! – even when they told me they were all gone – I snuck out to the recycling bin and found some of the crackers they said were "gone" but they were right there – and I had loads more fun with those crackers! Humans – they just never realize I can still find fun in ANYTHING!

Then we had a huge dinner – and I got tastes of everything on my own plate – and I didn’t even have to wait until all the Humans had finished before I got it!! I got it at the same time as them – and that made it taste even better! One of my bold "Uncles" even gave me a lick of wine! It made me sleepy – or maybe it was all the excitement – I don’t know because it was such a great day I didn’t want to go to sleep.

I’ll share some pictures of my great First Christmas with my Humans – I really hope Christmas is again next week because I don’t know if I can wait a whole year to do all of this again!

Here’s wishing everyone at D.I.D with 2 legs and 4 legs had as great a Christmas as I did!

I did a bit of googling and it seems that Irish charities who do used stamp collecting make their profits by selling to stamp collectors/dealers. The IPCC (Irish Peatland Conservation Council) have this to say about their used stamp collecting: "Postage Stamps (and associated philatelic stuff) we sort stamps into different
categories (Irish Commemoratives; Irish Definitives; World; and UK
Commemoratives and Definitives), they get trimmed to leave a 1 cm margin around the edge and we then sell them to Irish and international stamp dealers or as stamp collectors packs in the shop. Last year alone we received 83,000 grams of stamps from our supporters and the general public.
    "

Google always makes you feel smart! :) I’ll certainly get saving any stamps that come through our door and Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help out with this project! It seemes you might need all hands and paws on deck for this one!

I’ve been following Velvet’s story for so long now. She’s a beautiful little angel indeed. Kali’s had her toes crossed on every paw for her and I’m checking this thread constantly for her updates. She’s a beautiful little firework – as someone else said where there’s life there’s hope.

I know when our last dog (Marley, RIP) was in the vet’s after his accident I couldn’t see him either at first – so before I left after dropping him off I took off my jacket and jumper that I had on and INSISTED that they put it in his cage with him – I didn’t care what happened to them at the best of times he’d be distraught without me so after the accident and being without me I didn’t think either of us would bear it. They agreed with no problem to put the items in there with him and for all it mattered I think he knew that I couldn’t be there but those items I’m sure helped him.

See if you can leave something of yours or anything she’s familiar with – it will partially ease your mind and will completely reassure poor Velvet that even if she can’t see you you are there with her.

My thoughts are with you both every hour on the hour throughout this difficult process and procedure.

    Hi Everyone at DID!

Hope everyone had a great summer and found themselves fur-ever homes!

I had a really busy but great summer, I did so many new and great things and went to fantastic places!

I love to swim! Mommy took me to the beach a few times and I loved it there – I did get scared of a pile of seaweed though and I barked and barked at it until I knew it wasn’t going to take over the world and that I was in charge! When it was really hot we’d walk down to the estuary in Malahide because its right around the corner! Mommy would throw my ball out into the sea and I’d run after it until my legs wouldn’t reach anymore and I’d swim and swim and swim then until I got my ball and I’d come racing back in – Mommy said she’ll check and see if the olympics will let me complete because I’d win gold for Ireland every race she says!

The other day Mommy decided that she was tired of looking at my "tufty bum" – I had all these tufts of hair growing in awkward directions above my tail – so my bum looked really fluffy and funny looking she said – so she made me an appointment to get a beauty treatment – I got really scared going in because the last time I went near a strange place with other dogs in it Mommy left me and they did bad things to me! (They spayed me! But I still loved Dr Kelly after what he did to me!) So I was a bit scared by this whole grooming thing – but Mommy said it would be ok and I’d be even more beautiful so I believed her but I was still scared! The really really nice lady made me beautiful! I got a bath and my hair cut and my nails done! It was a real girly day! I felt so much lighter and fluffier when she was done and my nails were gorgeous! Mommy came to get me and she couldn’t believe how pretty I was – and she thought my groomed bum was so much nicer and neater than my "tufty bum" had been! And when I was leaving with Mommy the lovely lady who groomed me gave me a cookie and a pink bow for my collar! I was so pretty and proud with my new haircut and my pink bow! I marched down the street home like I owned Malahide!

Daddy wanted me to tell you a funny story about me as well – he calls me Billy Idol sometimes because when I’m being cheeky or begging my lip curls up to show my tooth and he says I look just like Billy Idol. I don’t know who that is – but I hope you humans at DID think its funny like Daddy does! I’ll put a picture up of me with what Daddy says is my cheeky faced Billy Idol pose.

Thanks DID for finding me the best home ever! I love it here!

    Hello All

Wow – its been quite a summer – I’ve been so busy but I thought it might be time to drop by with an update and some photos.
In May I had an operation, it hurt a little but I was healed up very quickly (Mommy says within a week I was better but had to stay quiet for 2 weeks) I only had 1 stitch and Mommy also says the worst part of it all was trying to keep me quiet for 2 weeks with no running or jumping or ball chasing! I did get to chew soooooo many bones though and I learned what hide & seek is! Thats so much fun!

I also got to go on holiday! We went to visit friends in the country – there was so much to do – I made friends with the dog we were staying with and we’d run around fields and go swimming in a lake – after a week I never wanted to come home! Oh and when I was there I made this crazy friend – his name was Donkey – I barked at him when I saw him at a distance but then he came over to say hello and I had to hide behind my Mommy then – I think I’m brave – but I’m really a wuss! :D

I’ll also include a picture my Mommy took on the 4th of July which is Independence day – we got to eat food outside – my peoples called it a bbq – and I got this crazy yummy thing called corn on the cob – I’d watched the peoples eat it and I ate mine just like them! Nibbling all the tasty corn stuff off of that hard cob.

I also got to go golfing with my Daddy – He said I was the best behaved dog on the course! I used my "down stay" that they taught me and I stayed by Dad’s golf bag while he took his shot and then I’d get to run around like crazy while we went to the next shot. There was a lake there so I got to go swimming and while I was off in the bushes I’d find golf balls and bring them back – once I even managed to get it into the cup! Not the one with the flag, so Dad says it didn’t count – but I still think I got a hole in one! (with that shot and with my family!)

I hope everyone enjoys the pictures that I’ll include! Hope all the DID dogs out there are having a great summer!

Well, the little girl is growing up – its official now. She went for a key-hole spay with Paul Kelly in Ratoath today. He did such an amazing job, the incision is so small! She was so quiet and subdued tonight overall – still feeling the effects of today naturally but did perk up just before bed time (of course!) but she nibbled some food and had a brief chew of her bone and is now snoozing again next to me.

It was really only today when she wasn’t here did we fully realize how fast she became part of the family and how much she means to us. I was at a loss most of today, no one wanted letting in or out, no food dishes to be filled, no friend to go to the park with – it was so sad! She’s such an amazing little dog, so friendly and happy. Everywhere I go with her, people can’t not stop and give her a rub and a pet and tell me how gorgeous she is, and she of course loves every bit of the attention and praise. I’ve had people in the park travel far out of their intended path to come and talk to me about her. Everyone is amazed how well behaved and obedient she is. I can’t say enough what a great puppy she’s been and is growing into herself, her personality and her new life here with us. Now that she’s back – I never want her to go away again! :D :D A home isn’t a home without the pitter patter of doggy feet!

Thanks to everyone at DID for helping this little girl out and getting her to us. We knew the moment we spotted her that she was the perfect dog for us. And the only problem has been – we didn’t realize how great she was and how perfect she’d fit in here! But sure, that’s a mistake I’m happy to make! :D

Thanks aswell to Kay (?? I think?? I was at a concert that night and missed her name!) for finally getting through to me about getting her spayed. I had spent weeks and weeks doing research about the key-hole surgery and discovered that only 2 vets in all of Ireland actually do that procedure! Luckily, one was close to me so I called and spoke with him and thought he sounded like a fantastic vet and that the key hole spay would be so much better all around for Kali so made the appointment for a week later to take her in. And Kay called 2 days before to see if I’d gotten it done – and we soon connected that I’d made the appointment with the DID vet Paul Kelly! I’d never realized there was a certain vet for DID let alone that he was it. So it was a happy coincidence all around. He’s a fantastic gentleman and its so obvious how much he loves animals and his job, he was so great and gentle with Kali it was a wonderful experience (for us both!) to visit him and let him work his magic of the key hole spay.

    To everyone at D.I.D

I haven’t been in touch lately so I thought that I’d say a quick hello to everyone and give an update. I’ve been to so many exciting places lately! I’ve gone to the beach where I had a fantastic time chasing my ball all around, and since I love to dig I was encouraged to dig the sand and WOW that was soooo much fun! Sand was flying everywhere and my legs were just a blur, I was stopped before I dug all the way through to China! But just barely! And nearly every day I get to go to the park for hours and hours (my peoples say its about 2 hours but it feels like forever!) And I just love to run and run and run and chase my ball, I literally won’t stop until the ball disappears into someones pocket. Then I’ll relax for awhile and sniff around until my beloved ball reappears. Sometimes my peoples bring a proper football and I like to play football with them – sometimes they tell me I’m not really playing football but I still think I’m better than Messi and Rooney!
I’ll leave you all with some photos so you can see that I’m still growing and growing and growing – my peoples are convinced that Tracy laced my puppy food with Miracle Grow!

I haven’t gotten a harness yet for Kali because she’s growing so fast that I can barely keep her in collars!  But I got the harness for my last dog in Maxi Zoo – they were so great about bringing him in to have it sized they tried 3 different ones on him before we had the perfect one and it was no big deal to them to help select the right one, get it on and let me walk him around the store to give it a "test drive" And they were heaping dog cookies on him as well so he was loving it! – In the end this is the harness that I ended up with, I managed to find it on the ZooPlus website as the Maxi zoo website doesn’t really list all their products. But I know that they have them there and they’re really great bringing the furkids in! Took Kali there the other day for yet another collar (this one should last awhile, has a lot of growing room in it!) and she was afraid of the sliding doors when they closed and she did a piddle   But they were fine about it thankfully! :? So I’d suggest this harness and Maxi Zoo for the fitting!

oh lord she has gotten so big and look at those big ears
Kali is a stunner and looks extremely happy, its so hard to believe she is the same doggie who was dropped at my door 7 weeks ago!!!
i love seeing her updates. :D[/quote:2es3zfv9]

She’s still holding onto her curly ears – which is great – they really set her face off, she’s such a cutie with them! She’s lost her puppy fluffy fur and is getting a very silky coat, it doesn’t seem that she’ll be overly long haired. But she’s growing so fast! She’s nearly grown out of her puppy collar already! So I think it will be off to MaxiZoo for the fitting of a new one! I can’t believe how much she’s growing – when she first got here she was teeny tiny compared to the cat (which isn’t hard as he’s huge!) – but now she’s so much bigger than him!

She’s such a happy dog overall – she loves doing new things and going to new places – she’s also very confident aswell – almost nothing scares her. Everyone who had a hand in her rescue is owed many many thanks by us – she’s so much a member of the family already its hard to believe she hasn’t always been here.

We knew we wanted her 200% after losing our last dog – but still in the back of your mind you almost wonder if you can love another as much as the first – but she’s so similar to him in ways (yet has her own wonderful personality and characteristics) – that I think if we could have "designed" a dog from scratch (looks, personality and all the rest) she’s exactly what we would have created! So thanks so much for taking her those 7 weeks ago!

    Another update on Kali:

She’s growing up so fast and is getting so big – I just looked at her "baby" photos just before posting this – and she’s gotten so big in such a small time. She’s settled in perfectly and is loving her fur-ever home and all the excitement that goes on here! She loves chasing her cat-brother Floyd all through the house and into the garden. We’ve fully mastered house training – no accidents in sight! She loves, loves, loves to chew – I think I spend more time (and money!) in Maxizoo on chewies for her – and she had a butchers bone for the first time the other day – she wouldn’t go anywhere without it! But thankfully, despite the love to chew – she does refrain from chewing anything she shouldn’t be – I’ve never seen a pup so good about not chewing shoes, table legs, etc etc – she always chews what she’s supposed to. Occasionally out of pure excitement she will grab one of my garden shoes and run outside with it in her mouth and run around and around and around the garden with it – but we’re getting better with taking a toy instead of my shoe! We spent a weekend in the country with some friends and she had a fantastic time – we spent a bit of time practicing being off-leash in their garden – its 2 acres that are fenced in and she was so good – always stayed a reasonable distance away and came back right away when she was called. And she also disovered how much fun it is to chase balls so we now have one of the ball launcher toys and we’ve been spending sunny afternoons in Malahide castle and letting her chase balls as far as we can throw them and she’ll keep running and playing until she just stops and cannot play anymore – the first time we went she was too tired to walk back to the car so she had to be carried most of the way! She’s such a good, beautiful puppy – I can hardly walk down the road with her, everyone wants to stop and pet her and give her loads of compliments and attention – which she eats every bit of it up! We can’t thank everyone enough who enabled us to adopt her – I just can’t imagine the house without her and it seems like she’s been here forever.
