We are delighted to have Scrappy come and join our family. He is just too cute to let go. But more than that him and Abby get on so well which is so important. Now we have 2 DID dogs and unless we win thelotto and get a bigger house, thats our lot. Scrappy has just noticed fish in the Aquariam we have and his little head is tilting from side to side, he is such a funny little man.

Thanks to everyone who made it possible to have this little man.Mary & Gerry.
No worries I will probably drive you mad with updates.
MARYMACMemberHi,
Well Scrappy is fine after his little op. He has been very good about the stitches, not really interested in them at all. We still put on the collar at night. Abby keeps trying to look and make him better. He no follows gerry everywhere, upstairs to the bathroom and up he goes, gets up to go to the kitchen , up he goes and follows, then abby folllows. I have christened him the Pied Piper
He has had no accidents in the house since the weekend which is great. He goes to the back door and pulls back the curtain when he wants to go out. Such a good little boy. And went all night with no accidents the last two nights.
All good today in the mad house.
MARYMACMemberHi,
Yeah I love that picture of Scrappy on the back of the couch. He looks like one of those old pyjama cases I used to have as a child (oopps, showing my age) !!
Well scrappy went off to the vet today for his little op. They rang at lunch time to say all was well and to pick him up around 4.30. He was a bit spaced out when he came home and not too happy with his new head gear. He is so small he finds it hard to eat or drink, or go upstairs with it on. I think we will do what we did before with Benny. Take it off when he is supervised and put it on at night when he is most likely to try and get at the stitches. He ate a little around 7 and slept for most of the evening despite Abby trying to play with him and taking every toy she has out of her toy basket. It was funny to watch, like she knew he wasnt well.
He is very good really and very little trouble. The one thing he does do is cry and howl when left alone, even if for a short while when we go upstairs or vice versa. He also does it when Gerry goes out initially. I am not sure how to address this but will have to look it up. If anyone has had this problem with separation anxiety which I pressume it is , please let me know how you dealt with it.
Thes are a few pics taken last night that made me smile. Abby has never stayed in her bed when another dog got in, not even the lovely Benny who as in foster with us for 3 weeks and has been back twice for his holidays. So it looks like Scrappy has stolen her heart as well as ours.
They are both fast asleep Scrappy in his bed and Abby on the humans bed, so lets see where they end up in the morning. Hopefully Scrappy will be able to sleep well with his horrible collar.

scrappy 23.1.12 015.JPGMARYMACMemberHi,
well today was a good day. For starters no accidents last night which is good considering his short stay. Scrappy is one very cute little guy who definately has a mind of his own. He hates being touched around his face at all. I tried today to trim some of the hairs away from his eyes and mouth and it was like a wrestling match. He is tiny and light but can he wriggle
He ate a bit better today. He goes to be neutered on Wednesday. He has made no advances in that way at Abby at all which is great. Today their play was more two of them playing and not just Abby wanting to play with him. They went mental in the house this morning for a while and were despatched to the garden where they ran around after each other for ages.
Gerry took him for a little walk this evening and he was wrecked when he got back, a little wander around was all it was.At the moment abby and himself are sorting out seating arrangements Abby gets in her bed, Scrappy follows. Scrappy moves to the couch, Abby follows and this goes on and on. They are so funny to watch as they are much better friends today. So much so that Scrappy went downstairs about an hour ago to be with Abby as she sleeps upstairs for some of the night and downstairs for some. He seems to have followed her. He was in his bed her in the bedroom but has gone.
Scrappy has a lovely temperment. He loves his cuddles. When you stop stroking him, he starts licking you to get going again. My niece and her boyfriend called yesterday and fell madly in love with him.
I am adding some pics of the musical beds today, but the best one when Scrappy decided to lounge on the back of the couch. look at the way his legs are !!!!!

scrappy 23.1.12 010.JPGMARYMACMemberHi,
Well all in all Scrappy has had a good night and day considering his journey to us. He slept ok on and off. Cried a few times and ended up on the bed and out for the count. Today he wandered around the house, in and
out and sniffing everywhere. It was funny because you could nearly see him taking it all in. Abby and him were a little more bold in their play today, i.e. Abby wanting to play and giving him toys and him not knowing what to do exactly. By this evening if Abby annoyed him too much he just ran away instead of being still and afraid. Saying that they really were good together and am very proud of Abby and she tolerated this little wooley fella in her home and bed very well. She is very sweet and my only worry would be in play that she could hurt him as he is very tiny. But now he sort of nibbles her side every now and then. He is very funny. He loves being out in the garden and is sometimes hard to get back in, it reallly surprises me that a little thing like him would like outdoors but he does tend to get very hot and start panting when indoors. Has anyone else had this experience ?
Scrappy is a little dote, so loving and just wants to be petted and rubbed so much so that when you stop he starts to lick you to say, come on start again please and looks at you with that teddy bear face. We heard him bark tonight for the first time. Abby barked at the door and he joined in. He is also quite nervous in the house of regular noises, cupboards closing, washing machine and general house noises. Im sure in time he will get used to this. I am adding a few pictures of today. Hopefully this will work as I did it earlier and lost my post and pics !!! Here goes.

scrappy and abby bed.JPGMARYMACMemberWell as you know, Scrappy took an extra unexpected journey today as my partner was taking him out of the car in the drive. He was on his collar and lead and as quick as lightening the collar slipped and he ran like a bullet. Poor Gerry was in a state blaming himself, but it was just one of those things.
To make a long story short the little monster was found after many phone calls , and brought to a man who runs a kennels locally. Well local to you or me but to run there with little tiny legs was some achievement which I hope Scrappy never decides to repeat.
We got him home at about 10.30 and the poor little mite was wrecked. He sat on my knee and just wanted cuddles.
Abby was very interested in him but he was just too tired. We put him in his bed and he slept like a log.He is now up beside me on a rug.So will post some pics tomorrow of the little teddy bear
Thanks kathy for your help, from all of us, especiallly Scrappy.Mary

BRUCE.JPGMARYMACMemberHi,
We have our wonderful Abby girl for three years now. Time just flies and she is just as happy and playful as ever. We went to Achill in the summer as we always do and were lucky to get a house with lots of fenced in land and a cattle grid on the gateway that she was afraid to put a paw on. This was great as she could ramble in and out of the house as much as she wanted and lots of room to play ball, which she is obsessed with. She would run for hours after a ball. She is still not keen on the sea but loves the lake. It is lovely and shallow and she loves to chase after other dogs and the ball in the quiet water.
She has this really funny thing when we change the bed, she jumps straight onto it as soon as the sheet is taken off and rolls around looking for belly rubs. Then waits until its made and does the same thing. Stretches right out and rolls around as if it was made for her
She loves all her toys and has different ones for playing with other dogs and others she just flings around the place. Its funny she never rips up toys, she loves to play with them then usually lie on Bunny, or Teddy, or other various soft toys in various states of repair !!
Moo is a favourite for tug of war games.
Benny (Elijah) the little foster we had last year has been back with us a few times since for his holidays. Himself and Abby are firm friends now and their last holiday in August for ten days was just so easy. They had a great time together and seem to just pick up where they left off. Abby’s other best pal is bruce my nephews dog. A lab cross who is very big and a big softy. They get on great but the energy they create in our small house can be a bit much because of his size, otherwise he is the perfect mate for her. I still hope that some day I will win the battle of the 2nd dog as Abby is always very happy when she has doggy company.
Abby was great at the weekend with the fireworks and bangers. She wasnt bothered at all about them. Unfortunately Bruce was staying that night and was terrified poor pet. So lots of music and cuddles were in order.
The only problem we have with Abby now is her barking at the doorbell and being very terratorial. If you didnt know her you would think you were going to be devoured by some enormous dog. We have tried to address this problem ourselves but without much sucess. I think we will get some professional advice as she gets quite anxious when she hears the bell or someone knocks on the door. She can go from being asleep to being at the door barking like a mad dog in seconds. No problem with people she knows, she is over friendly if anything, but also barks when people are leaving.
So all in all Abby is a happy dog and makes us smile every day with her funny quirks and mad play. We cannot imagine how it would be without her.Have two more pics but cant seem to add them here but will in another post.

MARYMACMemberHi folks, Benny (elijah) here. I am on my holidays at the moment with my foster people while my folks took to the sky in one of those huge big birds !!! Dunno why I couldn’t go but they said it was too hot. Anyway I am here with Abby and we are having great fun
Mary my foster Mum says I am a good boy except when I start barking, I just dont know when to stop. Thats abby’s fault cos she starts me off !!! We tear around and play with all her toys, its great fun. Sometimes she is bold and I have to nip her ears or hang out of her cheeks , she doesn’t like when I do that, but sometimes she makes me mad and I get carried away. At least thats what Mary says.
We have great games in the evening before we sleep, its like musical chairs. I sit on the couch with Gerry but Abby doesnt like that, so she gets into my bed and she stares at me. Im only little and so is my bed, she is much too big for it. then I try her bed, or the armchair. I usually fall asleep and someone puts my red blanket with me and Im happy for the night. Thats my favourite blanket that my first foster Mum Niamh gave me. My mum keeps washing it when its all nice and smellyI still have to have ointment and stuff in my eyes twice a day, its a bit yuk, but I get a treat afterwards so I am good
We had a nice walk today with Gerry. Abby goes mad chasing a ball for ages, while I Potter about and smell everything. I have to stay on the lead because I have not learnt to come back when im called. Its hard cos there is always something interesting to smell !!
Well anyway thats me for today. I just thought I would say hi to all the DID folk cos they got me my special forever home.

cuteness.JPGMARYMACMemberIndeed that year has passed so quickly. Benny looks great. Such a lovely fluffy chap, with that cheeky little face. Im not surprised about his lack of obedience, he was a stubborn little fella when we had him. But as you say, you got to love him. He certainly landed on all four paws when he found his forever family. Hugs to you Benny from your foster people .
MARYMACMemberHi there,
lovely to see Benny looking so well. I see he is growing his winter coat, as the last time we saw him was in august when he had just had a summer trim. Lovely to see his tail all full again, and of course that cute cheeky little face at the end. LovelyMary Gerry and Abby
MARYMACMemberHi Andrew and Family,
Well little Benny came to visit on sunday last and what a lovely little guy he has turned out to be. He has been in his forever home for 3 months now and looks so well. He has put on weight and his spine and ribs are no longer sticking out, and his eyes look so bright and much clearer. He was as chilled out as anything and put Abby in her place when she got too close a couple of times.
We are delighted to say that Benny will be coming to stay for two weeks in August while his folks go on holidays and we really look forward to having the cheeky chap stay. Its so true what Andrew said, given the love these doggies give so much back.
