Hi, our family pet of 12 years died over christmas and after a lot of discussion with kids we decided to get a rescue dog. after a lot of searching we finally got a beautiful 7 month choc lab cross from a pound. Her previous owner had said he had vaccinated her himself so I immediately brought her to our vet for vaccs and chip etc but a week later she died from parvo. Needless to say we are all devastated but my question now is does parvovirus live on in our house and garden? We are coming around to the idea of getting another dog but I need to be sure that the new dog will be safe? I cant bring a new pet in until i am sure this wont happen again does anyone have any advice or experience in this area?

Yes Parvo Virus can live in your house and garden.
Sunlight will kill it outside but areas where to dog went to the toilet should be sprayed with bleach or a disinfectant that kills parvo.

Inside the house the area the dog was in needs to be washed with a strong solution of bleach or other disinfectant ( not supermarket ones).
All bedding and toys should also be treated.

Very sorry to hear what happened.
