I met Biddy whilst up in the pound. She is gorgeous, has personality in spades. She has a really great look, wirey coat, square muzzle and a little tufty beard. She is really friendly and sociable with all the dogs big and small. She is only a young girl and is fairly lively and active. Good on the lead and eager to learn.

There is another Cavalier King Charles in the pound. Charlie is his real name, don’t see him on the site. He is a prime candidate for Operation Transformation, needs to shift quite a few pounds and a lot of dirty shaggy hair. Slightly older guy. A real little character. Apparnently his owners came up to the pound to reclaim but wouldn’t pay the fee and left without him. Heartbreaking. Saw him out for his walk. Due to his pudge he is slow on his rounds. Very happy fella, good with the other dogs. Deserves to be pampered!

Didn’t walk Brandon myself but spotted him on my rounds with other doggies. He is badly in need of some tlc, could seriously do with a good bath and groom. He has the potential to be a stunner. He seemed to be walking well on his lead and was calm trotting around. Great with the other dogs.

Walked Brett yestereday in the pound. He is beautiful, only a young dog, quite skinny needs some conditioning. He is not very tall for a red setter, definitely on the more petite side. He is very puppy like in his behaviour, exuberant and full of energy. Calms down after awhile. Great with other dogs big and small, happy out. Big tail wagger, big licker, big baby really. Heard he was going into foster yesterday, not sure if that materialized. Cannot believe he’s not been snapped up.

Exactly, either her owners come and reclaim her, she goes into foster or she will have to wait in the pound until she is out of heat (3 weeks) and then can be rehomed

I collected my Steve on a Saturday from Ashtown however I’d been up the previous week and filled in an application form. This had been reviewed midweek by pound Manager (don’t think the Manager is there at weekends). I was approved and able to bring him home the following Saturday. You can definitely pick up a dog at the weekend but may not get approved to rehome there and then. Also you need to have cash to hand. There is a fee to rehome and you have to pay your dog licence before taking your new addition home. Best of luck. Of course because you are travelling a distance down they may waiver their usual policy. Fingers crossed.

There is a five day window for this owners to reclaim him. After that he is free to be rehomed directly from Ashtown….. or there could come an offer of a foster home for him, that way he’d be in the care of DID awaiting his forever home

If you can’t get someone to do this today I can do it first thing in the morning. Sorry with work I wouldn’t get to the pound for closing time.

Byron’s owners have been found. Just so happens that the lady who sits beside me in work, her child minder owns Byron. He is 12/13 and they have been frantic looking for him. They are going up to Ashtown this morning to pick him up.

Most probably a surrender, his date out reads NOW, if he was a stray he’d have a date here i.e. owners are given five days to reclaim their dog otherwise they can be adopted

I met Ben this morning in his foster home. Is a a super handsome pup, beautiful markings and such a fluffy coat! He was a little more reserved and shy with me than his sister. His foster mam says he is the barker and more boisterous of the pair usually! He is eating really well and his toilet training is coming on well. Beautiful fella, no doubt he’ll be snapped up

I met Lady this morning in her foster home. She is gorgeous, very pretty girl. She is outgoing and affectionate, lots of licks. Quiet little pup, foster mam says not a peep out of her and her brother, they sleep through the night. Toilet training is coming on leaps and bounds.

Have you filled in an adoption form (available to download from the site under Forms & Download section), email back to pups@dogsindistress.org. If you have and haven’t heard about your homecheck it might be due to difficulty co-ordinating someone to carry it out. The big freeze is hampering everyone!

It made the news last week. New legislation has been passed and should now be in affect. It was promised over two year ago. It will hopefully clamp down on backyard breeding. Ireland is officially known as the puppy farm capital of Europe. Absolutely shocking. Up until now the only Legal Act covering animal welfare was dated 1911. You can only imagine how archaic that was
