Oh what a beauty. Can’t wait to see the ‘after’ photos…
jenbearMemberWhat an absolute stunner. Such a cute face. I’m surprised he hasn’t been snapped up yet.
December 29, 2010 at 12:06 pm in reply to: PJ (terrier x) 8 wks old – HOMED – Now named Ollie #85596jenbearMemberLet the record show that we did not in fact buy the snow boots for him, they were a present. We did however laugh our heads of at him trying to walk in them. And I have to say they worked quite well in the snow…
jenbearMemberAw thanks for posting Kathy. I must clarify that the snow boots were a present from Ollie’s aunty, I don’t think I could have bought them myself. But he was just too cute in them and they worked a dream on the snow.
The titchy pup is a 3 month old miniature yorkie that belongs to my friend so we’re having playdates to get her and Mia socialised. I was a bit worried because Penny is sooo tiny but they were very respectful of her size and weren’t rough and they all had a great time!
jenbearMemberHappy Christmas to all the fosterers and the fabulous Kathy at DID. Thanks from every single doggie you have saved this year!
(Doesn’t Ollie look happy in his hat? NOT)
Christmas10 007.JPGjenbearMemberHi all, quick update on Mia (Fizz). We love her so much already, she’s so affectionate and adorable, but, totally hyper, totally mental.
Like a real crazy lady! But in a good way . She launches herself at things and people and poor Ollie. And she’s so fast. Friends that come to visit can’t get over this bundle of fur who is on their necks and around the back of their heads as soon as they sit down in the excitement of meeting them. She’s bit barky on walks too, but I think that’s a bit of nervous defensive barking.
So we’re trying some things to calm this little girl down.
– With the snow we’re only getting into a proper walking routine now. But I think it’s going to have to be 2 laps of the park rather than one to try and use some of her energy up.
– We have a spray bottle for when play gets a bit out of hand or she bullies Ollie too much.
– And we’re trying to not greet her/ give her affection until she’s calm although it’s early days yet. She’s so cute and so much fun though and like a little bullet, but if anyone else has experience or advice of hyper (crazy) dogs I’d love your suggestions.
jenbearMember1. Put out a special treat bowl filled with a selection of tiny morsels of chopped
hot dog, cheese, treats, carrot slices and other goodies your dog loves.
uests can then enjoy giving your dog controlled treats without feeling
guilty or being furtive, while you know that he wont be getting anything
unsuitable. Make sure then that the bowl is placed well out of reach of
your dog though, together with human food toxic to dogs such as
macademia nuts, currants/raisins/sultanas, grapes and chocolate so that
he cant help himself!
[/quote:28ip92jn]Fantastic advice and I particularly love the idea of having a dedicated doggie treat bowl for my friends!! Last year I couldn’t get one particular (drunken) friend to stop feeding Ollie nachos, which of course he loved. This is a great suggestion!
jenbearMemberKnees buckling under weakness for Staffies. What a stunner, if only I could persuade Rossa we need a 3rd….
jenbearMemberMy furbabies are so clever they have learned to fly.
Here are some more (Oh lordy, I have turned into one of those mothers who won’t stop going on about how great her kids are ) I was lying down at the back door and kept throwing treats for them to try and get some good photos. But they got wise to me and kept coming back for more… (see, I told you, clever doggies!)

Here’s another that’s going on the wall at home. He kept sniffing the snow and got loads clogged on his snout and then kept rubbing his snout on the ground to get it off, but just made it worse. Maybe not so clever afterall, hehe.
Ok, and another one. Ollie loves his sticks!!!

Ollie2.jpgjenbearMemberHi Estelle,
Myself and my partner adopted a second dog recently from DID, Fizz. So rather than give you any advice I’m going to explain how things are going in our home and let you see how that fits your situation.Ollie (PJ) is a really sociable dog, loves the dog park in Marley, loves meeting other people and dogs on our walks and didn’t seem to show much jealousy when we had friend’s dogs in the house, even to stay for a few days. So I eventually persuaded Rossa we needed a friend for him.
The most important part for us was to see how Ollie responded to the other dogs we met. In the end we knew when we had found the right companion for him, just knew they were playing well together compared to other dogs we had met. We also went for the opposite sex and got a female dog this time.
Things in our house have been CRAZY for the last 2 weeks so be warned it may be a bumpy ride for the first while. The first few days the novelty for both of then having a dog to play with meant they went mental playing and chasing and wrestling. They DID NOT STOP. Then Ollie seemed to realise that Mia (Fizz) wasn’t going anywhere and became quite possessive over toys and us if we gave her cuddles.
2 weeks in Ollie is getting better at sharing, but still watches closely when we cuddle Mia, but we just make a special effort to give them both alone time with us and get visitors to say hello to Ollie first, feed him first, etc. I read somewhere that you have 2 hands so use them, so I scratch 2 bellies at the same time.
So things are settling down but I think it’ll take another week or 2 for them to be best friends. I don’t know if this is helpful to you, and also didn’t mean it to be so long. I live in Rathfarnham, so a bit far away for play dates unfortunately. Good luck whatever you decide.
jenbearMemberAw, all the doggies seem to be having great fun in the snow.
jenbearMemberOk, can’t resist some pics of this pair in the snow. We are having so much fun with them, things are settling down bit by bit.

SnowNov2010 394.JPGjenbearMemberThis really pushes my buttons. You can’t always tell the breed mix in a cross breed by just looking. And even if there were some bull breed in Rusty his is still a stunning dog and in fact his mix is irrelevant.
From my experience of staffies and bull mastifs, the ‘bull’ in them only means they are strongly built. They are the biggest softies and known as nanny dogs. Blame the owner not the breed. It’s irresponsible owners that give these breeds a (totally undeserved) bad name.
Anyway, it sounds like Rusty’s prefect family are still out there and he’s better off with a family who will love him for who he is.
jenbearMemberShe can be totally hyper and is feisty like a lot of small dogs but I think they’re well matched.
And I think they could be poster doggies for rescuing. I think a lot of people think of slightly ugly Hienz57 variety breeds when they think of rescue dogs, not all that pretty. But I keep telling (everyone who will listen) that rescue dogs come in all shapes and sizes. I also think a lot of people in my circle of acquaintances would consider rescuing rather than buying after meeting Ollie and now Mia.
