Not pointing fingers at anyone BUT someone chewed up a sheepskin slipper this morning :? . All the dogs are ‘free-range’ in the house unless there is food about. Now, the investigation; Dudley has been with us for 8 years and never chewed anything at all; Nellie has been here for 3.5 years (4 in November) and not chewed anything but dog toys. She doesn’t chew them so much as totally destroys them. Jet will play quietly with a ball but stops if anyone looks at her. The carer found what she thought was a dead rabbit on the floor :o and called me through. I understood her thought on first look because all that could be seen was ‘fur’ scattered around. I had opened the door to let the dogs out into the garden, Jet trotted passed us, picked up the remains of the slipper, took it outside, dropped it on the path while she had a look through the gate, picked it up, brought it back into the house and into my father’s room and dropped it beside his chair :P . The conclusion, he has chewed up his own slipper    Much as I hate shopping I will have to go and try to find another pair of sheepskin slippers :(

:D Quick up-date. Landed 5 weeks ago tomorrow, for the last 3 nights she has slept on her bed beside my bed. Has made no effort to get onto my bed. Galloped into my father’s room when we got back from work today and Dudley coped very well. Still don’t let her into my father’s room if there is food around. Helped herself to a sandwich from his had a few days ago. Didn’t grab it, he was not injured in any way but was left holding (pretty much) the crust in his hand. Very good in the car, just lies down and sleeps, sits for her meals but I suspect her foster family taught her that. We are aiming for a rally competition in October. Well, Nellie, Jet and I are. Lord Dudley refuses to perform in public on any level – perish the thought :o He is not scared, he will just not do it

Hailey, you and your family are too kind. You know that Nellie is your God-sister don’t you? When her biggest fan at work heard that another dog had come to live with us he said to me, "what about Nellie"? I said, "Oh, I got rid of her" (I never would :o ) He looked at me in complete disgust and said, "don’t be so stupid, you would get rid of your father and brother before you would get rid of Nellie". How I laughed and had to tell him that he was absolutely right – get rid of the Nells bells – NEVER!

Jet went off to my brother for the day and they had a nice walk. He told me on Thursday that Jet did one of those high pounces into long grass during her walk. She then lay down with her front paws crossed, licking at them. He checked her in case she had cut herself but there, under her paws was a mouse that she was licking :o He pulled her back from the mouse and said that within seconds the slightly wet mouse shot off into the grass. Jet carried on happily with her walk ;) . She has started to learn to sit, down and stand on command. Tried her with a target stick the other day but she didn’t have a clue. We will carry on with the touch/click training. Now that Nellie’s performance day is over I will be concentrating on Jet but still continuing with Nellie. I hope they will both compete albeit on a fun level at various events in the future. Time to get the agility equipment out again to see what Jet thinks :? She has put on a little bit of weight, at least she is developing some muscle on her shoulders. I think she will always be a bit skinny but I would like to see a bit more weight on her. She is a little sweetie 8-)

Our little HTM team performed at a village gala today. We did our individual routines and then a team effort. Went pretty well, all happy :D All the dogs got a gift each from the organisers so that was nice. Nellie LOVES her squeaky bone :P A little girl asked if she could speak to Nellie and then spent ages asking all about and petting her, Nellie loved all the attention. On our way back to the car I heard some shout and then whistle, when I turned round there was a (maybe) 14 year old boy coming towards us, he also asked if he could speak to Nellie, told her he liked her routine. Told me that he has a 10 year old Boxer but it has had a lump removed from one of its hind limbs so couldn’t come to the event. He was very pleased to say that his dog could do three twirls on command :D Nellie has now been fed (well, they have all been fed) and is now resting after her busy day.

The local dog walker and Collie owner saw Jet at lunchtime today so we had to stop and chat. She said how pretty Jet was (she is) and didn’t think she was pure Collie but plenty other people do. I said I thought she was Collie/Whippet, she thought possibly Collie/Lab. Thought Jet looked young, her guess around a year old and maybe a little younger. She has a 5 month old Collie who is not much smaller than Jet :o . When we were walking on the country estate after work today (sadly, not mine) Jet saw a Spaniel running back and forth (working the ground) in the distance and tried to take off. She is very keen when she sees something moving in the distance, sharp as a pin. Doesn’t like having her back end touched but getting used to being brushed – usually lies down and tries to paw at my hands when brushing/stroking her. Lets me pick up her paws to check them but taking time with touching her tail. She has started to grow furry ‘knickers’ either side of her tail which appears to be is getting thicker, well looks thicker because her coat seems to be growing, not long just ‘more hairy’ 8-) The rest of her coat is very soft and still smooth. Digestive system seems to have settled down and she has her gravy bones now  . Took a box of Bonio biscuits to my brother’s house so she can have one after her walk. Always tries to drink out of manky puddles or other grotty water if she gets the chance :) .
