Little Lucy dropped in to say hello on her way to UCD here and got fitted out with a new jumper to keep her warm.
Suzi travelled her over and spoke to the vets where they did say that she is underweight but they do have an 80% success rate with this operation. They are running tests on Lucy today and we should have an update by this evening.
hpshebaMemberHi Laura,
I have pm’d you, sorry I lost your new number when I changed my phone. Thanks so much for offering to help Lucy.
I went up to Cara vets today and I got to meet Lucy while I was there. I was shocked at how small and emaciated she is. She looks more like a 12 week old puppy instead of a 9 month old one. She is so thin you can clearly see her bones. The vet nurse, the lovely Kirsten told me that they are trying everything to get her to eat but that they do feel that she is well enough to undergo the operation on Wednesday. She allowed me to pick her up and give her a cuddle for a few mins. I got a chance also to take a few new photos so they are here below.
We would like to take this chance to say a BIG BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has taken the time to get in touch with Dogs in Distress to wish Lucy well and offer some financial assistance for her vet care and operation. We are a volunteer run non profit organisation and without your help we would not be able to help pups like Lucy so thank you for all your support. We will keep updates posted here as they come in.
hpshebaMemberNala in her high vis jacket going out to work on the M50 roadworks!!! Only messing, she believe it or not is enjoying going for night time walks ha ha
(please ignore the carpet in this pic )
hpshebaMemberSome pics from last year!
And if anyone has any energy left after the walk there is an adoption awareness day being held in Equipet in Ashbourne and I am sure they would love to see you and the dogs in your costumes
Have a great timehpshebaMemberNala has been coming along so quickly in the last few weeks, it amazing. She is going up to Doggie daycare in DTI and is loving every minute of the activities going on up there. She also last week had her first walk in the park off lead!!!!!!!!!!!with Sheba and Cassie and she loved it. She was so funny chasing the birds and running after the girls.
Today, was a huge leap forward. We took her out to the beach in Donabate and she had a ball. Two full hours running around, sniffing, chasing and swimming in the sea!!!!!!!!!!!!I could not belive it, she is adorable.
She is one of the most beautiful dogs that I have ever had the pleasure of minding. Her reactions, now that her big fears seem to have gone away, are inspiring and so rewarding. She is loving life and really enjoying everything like a normal dog would normally do. She still has not got the housetraing thing so we do wake up in the morning to a "little present" but I think that is just her way of saying Good Morning…I really wish that I was in a position to keep her but unfortunetly the timing is all wrong.
Nala will definetly need a home with another dog, a dog that is confident and can show her how to behave. She will need a new Mam and Dad that are willing to accept that they will have to perservere to win her affection and that she will not act like a "normal" dog and run to them straight away and smother them in kisses. She needs a home where there is someone at home most of the time to keep up the house taining and get her to the next level. She needs ahome where everyone ùnderstands that she really wants to be loved, no raised voices and I would think no young children ( under 10 ). Her love when you win it, is so precious that it is so worth the effort and time that it takes.
hpshebaMemberNo dog could have had a more devoted owner and no owner could have had a better dog. Run free with all your pink ribbons flying out behind you in the Dublin 4 of heaven Henry. xxx

The black and white blur at the right side of the photo is Nala enjoying her 2nd day at Doggie Day care!!!!!!!!Firstly may I thanks all the people up in Dog Training Ireland but especially Tara, Laura, Michelle and Lauren for looking after my baby.
Having gotten advise from Marie and a few others I decided to start bringing Nala to work with me just to get her used to the outside world and low and behold she coped with the change of scenery ok. Anyone who has been to the shop will know the "chill out " room and she made that her base and looked out at all of us working and even allowed strangers to pet her over the baby gate without running for cover. The OH went back to work suddenly this week and I was left worrying what to do with the girls so I contacted DTI and they were will to take Nala along with Sheba and Cassie and see how it went and it went great. Day one she hung out in reception with Tara with a short trip outside with Laura. Day 2 she went straight into the main area with the other guys and girls and coped brilliantly. I am so delighted. I really feel like we have turned a corner and she though probably will always be timid and quite shy, she now has a real chance to move forward.
hpshebaMemberThere is nothing I or anyone can say that will make this time any better but you and your family are one in a million. RIP little baby.
hpshebaMemberNala is really starting to come out of her shell in the last couple of days. She will now hop up on the couch beside you and is sleeping full time on the bed with us. She still has a long way to go. Toilet training is still a no go and she still hides when anyone comes into the house but her natural nosyiness ( is that even a word????) comes out after a few minutes and she has to stick her head into the room to see who is there.
She is getting on brilliant with Sheba and Cassie and loves nothing better than hopping into a game of batter and flirt. Her tail is up most of the time now which I hope is a good sign and she is eating like a horse, but yet is still quite thin.
She had a vet check last week which was great fun as her biggest fear is leaving the house, but after 20 mins of cajolling we got her in the car and the lovely Tracey up in Cara Vets was able to check her over. Medically nothing was found to be wrong during the assessment so we now move on to a behaviourist coming to the house to see her as her stress levels get outragously high when we take her out anywhere. Her temp went up to 40.5 just going to the vet.
Will keep up updated on her progress have a look at her in action by clicking the link below.
hpshebaMemberThis is now sorted. Buttons will be going to join Barbara tomorrow for 2 weeks beside the sea.

She is a big girl but very gentle with the children, she is a real lady. I thought you might like to see some pictures of her as she has grown. Thank you for all your help.
