We have Jack one week today. Things are going well – Jack has settled in well and he has really bonded with us which is great!
He’s walked twice a day and loves the garden. He’s an intelligent little dog, responds to sit, stay, quiet (sometimes) and is friendly with people.
Only problem is when we bring him for walks – he tenses up when he sees other dogs in the distance – and by the time we get up close to them, he’s beside himself with excitement, barking and almost choking himself. We don’t think it’s aggression – but the other dogs don’t know that – and they bark back. At one point he tried to jump up on another dog – who didn’t like this at all.
So we really need to start working with him on socialisation with other dogs – he gets into such a state. We’ve tried distracting him – talking to him when we’re approaching the other dog, reassuring him….which minimises it a little bit – but not enough to calm him down.
