Well Rodge is proving to be quite the distraction for my studies. Despite the fact I have a hefty load of exams coming up in just over a week, he spends his time practising his "walk me eyes".

I just had to snap him in the act when I looked down from my books to see him saucer-eyed waiting for me to notice him! He won, I caved instantly and we hit the park….and I hate to say it, but Rodge was probably right I needed a bit of fresh air to keep the mind sharp. Dogs always know best!

Well Rodge has been with us for about 7 months now and he keeps on improving every week.

Earlier in the year he was still a bit snarly about being touched on the hind quarters but it wasn’t malicious and so we thought it could be a severe case of matting. Our suspicions were confirmed when Pooches Palace called to ask permission to shave him!

Apparently it was so bad if the ladies at the parlour had tried to save his hairstyle he would have been put off grooming for life. He left that place a little chilly but a new dog.

For the first time he accepted all the rubs he could get, hind legs and all. When he sees me take out the brush now he throws himself on the floor, tail wagging, awaiting the pampering session.

Here are some pics of his Blade One days…

Oh wow I remember this lady. Stunning pics…I just love the position of the tail in the cat watching poses!

I thought you might be the best person to ask about grooming. Where did you go to get Chloe done? I have just got Sam/Rodge used to the soft brush but need someone used to grooming rescue dogs to clip the feathering on his hind legs and cut the matted hair out.

He turns his head so quickly when your at his hind quarters I am afraid I will injure him with the scissors if I attempt it myself.

Any pointers on good groomers in Dublin would be a great help.

    Thanks, Emma

Sam, or as we call him Rodge, first came to us in March of this year as a foster. When he was returned to DID a few weeks ago there was no chance I was going to give him up again! It’s the face….it just melts your heart and he knows it…

When I first met him in March he was painfully shy and so, so skinny and it has just occured to me that this will probably be his first Christmas in a house that adores him.

This fluff monster does have food aggression and some handling issues but with a lot of hard work and implementing the helpful advice from DID and Emmaline, I’m sure we will conquer them.

Thanks to everyone at DID, Una the dog walker and Sarah and her character Mr Poopers for their help with giving this fab fella a great start to his second homecoming.

Here are some pics of my little man Rodge:-)

Thanks so much for the update on this lady. She was such a dote when she first came to stay with me and I still have really fond memories of her. She looks AMAZING in the photos. Give her a pat on the head from me! Emma

Apologies for the lack up updates, am right in the middle of exams at the moment. Marcus is an incredible dog, I have grown so attached to him. If I wasn’t going back to work he would certainly not be going anywhere.

He is a big hit with the other dogs in my area. It took him a while to get the recall thing down – but I think that was more down to not knowing me all that well. But after two weeks of trying he now runs ahead but is constantly looking back to make sure you are nearby.

He follows point commands very well and will sit when asked before crossing the road. Such a smart guy. He now knows all the main commands.

He is panned out at my feet at the moment. He is much more relaxed in the house now. His fear of pots and pans banging, the telly etc all done away with.

I love this guy, whoever takes him on won’t regret it – but he does need a lot of exercise. He actually hits the door with his nose when he wants an outdoor adventure.

On the walk home he runs ahead and hits the door with his paw of our terraced house – all delighted with himself that he gets the right one every time. Here’s a pic that sums up his puppyish spirit.

    Another handsome picture.

This guy is doing great. No accidents indoors for the last two days. Have yet to hear him bark which is great. He is definitely showing a more playful side and is becoming very independent.

This little man is wonderful. He doesn’t make a sound in the house. Curls up for a snooze by the door – I suspect so that you can’t leave the house without taking him along too. He is a typical collie the way he sidles up to you and throws the head on your lap for some rubs.

He is still getting over his stint in the pound. He has stopped the pacing up and down that he was at for the first two days but he is still very timid and hangs the head down very submissively when greeting new people. He gets on really well with other dogs but does have a bad habit of trying to cock the leg on smaller dogs.

Nothing but good things to say about this dog. He is a gem for anyone who wants a quiet dog that gives loads of affection.

Molly/Shelly has recovered well from her op. She hasn’t got her appetite back fully but she is as sprightly as ever. She is out cold at the moment because she was whining for a lot of last night which is not like her at all – for the last 2 weeks she has been as quiet as a mouse at bedtime. Maybe it was just a one-off tantrum.

I am now convinced that she gets spooked in open spaces. I brought her to Malahide beach yesterday and she was pulling every which way. It was a huge struggle to walk her.

She really is a city dog. She walks like a dream when i bring her into town or around Phibsboro. She is better in my local park now that she is familiar with it. So with new places I think it’s just a matter of practice and more practice.

She is also the perfect house guest – she has happily visited two homes over the weekend and after an initial sniff around she plonks herself down and naps.

    Here are some more pictures:

Oh my god I have totally fallen for this girl. She is a gem. She LOVES the car…happily sits in the backseat looking out the window.

She was spayed today and has been quiet and out of sorts. She got sick a few times but has come round in the last hour which is good news.

I have been watching her portion sizes and bringing her for plenty of walks so she has lost the ghetto booty she had on arrival!! She now looks very svelte and even prettier, if that’s possible.

I think it is worth noting that she is quite a strong dog and if she gets whiff of something on her walks she could easily pull you over so she needs a strong handler for those moments. I will post up some more pictures tomorrow.
