MemberIf you ask at your own vet or any good local vet they may give you advice over the phone as to if they can do the ear clearing job instead of a groomer.
If you go down the groomer route, again, perhaps a good local vet may be organised enough to provide you with a list of groomers in your area. Do a bit of ringing around.
Perhaps it would be an idea to let the groomer know when you ring them that your dog is nervous and may bite and when you get your appointment remind them to use a muzzle. Most groomers have that equipment.
Not surprising many dogs don’t like the area around their heads being touched. You can over time do training exercises yourself with the guidance of a good trainer, e.g. touch the collar, give reward.
You can judge for yourself the approach you feel is right for your dog. Don’t worry, you’re not unusual with having a dog in that situation.

MemberThat’s brilliant, Cian is such a great little guy to overcome his isolated past. May his new family enjoy him and well done to his hard working foster family!

MemberThanks buzzsmom! Brandon is barking at me now as he hasn’t had much of a walk today because I’m afraid of slipping. He and Dabs has a short walk each, 2 is too many when you could do with having both arms free.
How’s Pippa doing in the snow? Here’s a beardy pic just for you

MemberHi all, it’s Brandon here! I’ve an update. I enjoy having another dog to follow around and Dabs isn’t that bad as a big brother. Sometimes I tell him off for eating squeeky toys or crying when he hears fireworks. I like things to be very stable. Dabs isn’t like me, he can’t stand Halloween bangers so we all went off on holiday to a quiet part of Waterford for some peace.
I like bangers and thunder…I’m very unusual and I need to look out the window and yell out because it’s exciting. I went swimming on my holidays and even had a haircut in a mobile dog groomer’s van. I was very good but certainly didn’t like a noisy hairdryer near my head and I told the groomer off.
I had to go to the vets there because I got a rash all on my underbelly. The vet said I might have an allergy to the laminate floor polish. Now I’m back I’m fine. I’m getting really confident now, I wag my tail lots and I’m not scared if someone I don’t know tries to rub me (sometimes I’ll even go up to someone I hardly know looking for a rub, people aren’t as bad as I remember).
Sometimes I forget I don’t get along with dogs and I meet up with Sonic and realise she’s a nice dog and very polite… then I remember I don’t like dogs again when Oscar, Dougal and Coco come along (they’re all Dabs’ friends and they make me nervous because they are giddy).I’m a great help to my person, when she forgets she’s supposed to get up and give me a walk I remind her by taking one of her shoes and walking around the room with it so she must get out of bed to get it back :0). I’ll jump on the bed and grumble until she opens the curtain for me to look out, she says I’m very cheeky. If grandad is eating too many biscuits I’ll take the packet and hide it in the back garden for a few weeks and bring them back in when they are all muddy and then he says he doesn’t want them.

MemberRusty, thankfully, can’t change who or what he is; a loyal friend to a lucky someone. It’s a shame that the last person to "borrow" him listened to some random in a park who did not produce a CV but felt in a position to provide expert advice on the breed of a dog they didn’t know. Did they carry a DNA kit on them
? People out and about ALWAYS have something to say, mostly good sometimes not, some folks plain just dislike dogs (sad as that sounds).
My non-DiD dog is a collie cross terrier, a wolfhound mix, has the hind quarters of a bulldog, a fox terrier, a deer hound and all of this depends on the day of the week it is and the eye of the beholder (including vets who don’t agree it either
)!
I can tell you, a good dog is a good dog regardless of breed. The Dog Whisperer’s dogs Daddy and son Junior…American Pit Bulls
Rusty, you’re a beauty, hugs and kisses from Dabs, Brandon and me! You’ll find

MemberContact the DSPCA;
According to their website that’s what their job is. Neglect is animal cruelty. "The Inspectors’ primary role is as follows:
•To investigate complaints of cruelty and neglect.
•To provide guidance and education to animal owners where necessary.
•To initiate prosecutions for offences.
•To attend to sick and injured stray animals or those which have been abandoned.
If you wish to report an act of cruelty or neglect or if you are concerned for the welfare of an animal, please contact us at 01 4994700"
They should either give the owners advice if they are ignorant, or ask them to sign over the dog if they don’t care about him.I have experience I me not doing something about a neglected dog in my area except talk to the owners who had plenty of excuses and I believed them; "we built a run for him and he still gets out"-i.e. he’s always sleeping outside, "he’s always eating the kids good clothes"-i.e. we ignore him and he gets bored, "he runs off to a boy in the next estate"-i.e. he hasn’t a companion in our house, the loneliest dog in the world. I brought him back next day when he’d show up at our door in the middle of the night whining. The family stopped talking to me, the dog disappeared. Kids in the neighbourhood said the dog had gone to live in the country. I believed it for a while but the more I said it to people at work and friends the less I believed the former owners.
If the DSPCA don’t help, let us know please!
