Tess is an older JRT who is suffering from dermatitus caused by a skin condition which was left untreated, possibly for years. As a a result the dermatitus has became chronic. Poor Tess was in a dreadful state when she was rescued from the pound. She was covered with patches of raw, itchy skin. Anyone who has ever suffered from eczema or psoriasis will especially sympathise with Tess. Tess is now in foster care and we have begun veterinary treatment. Tess has already shown considerable signs of recovery, she has received antibiotics to treat bacterial infection, drops to tackle any fleas or mites and she has her first wash using a special shampoo. She will need these washe’s twice a week for six weeks at least. It’s hard to fully get to grips with Tess’s personality yet as she is quite unwell an is probably feeling a little down as a result. However it’s clear that she is a lovely little dog with a lot to give. She is affectionate but undemanding. She loves to go for walks and ambles along quietly. She is exceptionally good on the lead. Once Tess is fully recovered she will probably be an ideal companion for an older person. More updates will follow on Tess’s progress.

Hi! Tess is nearly better. Thanks to a lot of medical intervention and loads of TLC she is a new dog – her pain and soreness is gone – her skin is nearly completely better! She is no longer the sad, forlorn, pathetic little creature that I picked up in Ashtown pound two months ago. A HEART FELT thanks to DID for making this transformation possible. Without DID the probable outcome for Tess doesn’t bear thinking about.

In my next post I will re-load the pics of Tess which were on the old site and some new ones – so everyone can see how cute she is. I’ll also see if I can upload some video footage as she is a very smart girl. You can put a big juicy treat on the floor right beside her and she won’t touch it until she is told. Also she jumps straight into her basket when she is told. She runs around in circles when she is excited. She brings joy to our household (yes – cheesy but true). She is a tiny JRT – someone stopped me the other day thinking that she was a pup and was surprised to hear she is 9.

She still won’t be suitable for homing with children. When we got her first she was prone to grumpy moments – I realise now that a lot of that was probably illness realted – she was very down in the dumps. I had one growling attack from her about two weeks ago when taking away her hot water bottle. When she was sick she bit me twice in a way where she didn’t bear down with her teeth. (The vet had a word to describe this.) I was very concerned but then but I can now confidently reccomend her to a home where there are no young children around who might be pulling and dragging out of her.

Tess truely is a lovely little dog – she would be ideal for an older retired person or for someone who works from home or could take her to the office. She’s happy just to be there with you, generally she’d rather sit in her basket than on your lap. She’s got enery so can handle hikes in the countryside no bother – but she’s be also be perfectly happy with two or three short walks a day.

She is OK in the car – but isn’t the greatest traveller – short trips would be OK. However he once got a little sick after a 40 minute journey.

The dreadful state of Tess’ skin was brought about by neglect. She didn’t receive any veterinary care when the problem arose and as a result it got worse and worse. The vet said that she was probably suffering with her skin for years. I just wanted to mention the veterinary treatment that Tess has received thanks to DID. Donations to DID paid for all of this and now a small dog will have a happy life instead of a life of misery. Her treatment is now nearly complete, after that she will not need medication on an ongoing basis.
    3x Drontal worm/tic treatment
    1 x 250ml Omega Aid Food Supplement
2 x long acting antibiotic injections
    1 x 15ml Surolan ear drops
    2 x 250ml maleseb antibacterial shampoo
    1 x 76ml crotavance cortizone spray

Tess is now ready and waiting for her forever home. Her skin is now completely better and she has had her vaccinations and is microchipped.

She is a wonderful dog and will make a great companion for someone. She is affectionate and happy. She would be perfect for someone who is looking for a four footed friend to share their days with. She loves a walk and is great on the lead.

Tess has had a difficult few months, now is her time to be happy, comfortable and content. She deserves this so much as she has suffered a lot in the past. Please consider giving Tess a home.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Tess. She looks great and has a smiley face. She is very happy and it is so wonderful to see. She would be a fantastic companion for someone looking for a small dog. She is so petite and would take up hardly any room in a loving house.

Well – Tess is doing great. She is such an easy going dog, so small and undemanding. She likes to spend her free time in her basket with her cuddley toy, mini duvet and heat pad. She is in the lap of luxury. I say to her – you are retired now Tess so you should just relax and enjoy yourself. Tess is about ten though – so still has lots of energy when is comes to her favourite passtime – going fo a walk. She is so funny – and smart. When she senses that there might be a walk on the cards she does little circles and gestures with her head towards the door. She makes us laugh! She is great t have around.

Tess would be so obviously a great companion for an older person. She gives you a great incentive to get out for a little walk – even if it’s just around the block or around to the shops she wants to go with you. And she doesn’t pull on the lead. Also – she is housetrained. She had a few little accidents over the first few weeks with me but now she is brilliant.

I hope someone might home Tess soon. I can really only foster one dog at a time. I love Tess so much but want to see her settled with someone who can give her more time than I can (I work full time so she spends a lot of time alone which isn’t right). Also I can only foster one dog at a time so if you can give Tess a home you will be helping more than one dog. Please consider Tess.

A lovely lady contacted DID as she was intrested in Tess. However she had a cat. I took Tess to my friends house who has 2 cats and Tess nearly had a cardiac! She’s not good with cats unfortunately!

Our beloved little Tess passed away in our arms this morning. She was in the care of Cara Vets for the past four days and it became obvious that her heart condition was worsening following a seizure on Tuesday and that there was no hope of recovery. Tess came to us as a foster dog in September 2008, she had suffered terrible neglect. She had an awful skin condition. She had cranky moments and ultimately we realised that she needed to stay with us, particularly as after a few months she was diagnosed with a heart murmur.
The one year and eight months that we had Tess was brilliant. People say that we did so much for Tess – but she gave back so much more to us. She was funny, smart and feisty. She became part of our family. We took her everywhere and she experienced some of the doggy joys of life that all dogs should get a shot at, lying in front of the fire, running in the fields, walking on the sea shore, climbing up mountains – and when her heart condition worsened she would travel in her doggy papoose – strapped to John!! We made sure that she was didn’t miss any of the fun especially when it came to outdoor activities. We felt that the first 10 years of her life had probably been pretty miserable so she had a lot of catching up to do. So she enjoyed life to the full while she was with us. Nothing made me more happy than seeing her happy.
Goodbye to my dear little Tess, I will never forget you. You will always be my beloved little dog and if there is a heaven we will meet again there.

I remember little Tess coming into Ashton. She had a very bad skin condition which which had never been treated and needed prolonged treatment. Justine and John took her into their home as a foster but I think Tess had other ideas and decided that her forever home was with Justine and John.

This little girl has certainly made up for lost time, she has had great adventures and a warm and loving home.

Rainbow Bridge has a new addition today.

    At rest Little Tess

You will be sad but be happy for the shared a journey you had with Tess, she found happiness with you there will be no doubt about that. I also have no doubt that she will continue to walk with you and there will be times when you will know that. I dread these times, same as everyone else who has the pleasure of our canine companions and the terrible loss of their physical presence when the shift from physical to spirit comes. I so hope you continue to help other needy dogs, there is no better memorial for Tess or any other dog, its never a replacement.
