Tess..10mt old Terrier X ref 259 – HOMED

This little girl is only a baby and was knocked down last Sunday…a kind lady fed her in the ditch as she could not get her out.. until the Dog Warden collected her on Tuesday…we got her to our Vet…she had a broken Femur…we then had to get her to a Specialist where she had to have pins put in…we could not leave this girl and had to help her …she is only a baby…its shocking that no one helped or came forward for her..we to hate ask again but we now have a vet bill of over Eu900…please if you can help, even a few Euro…we and this little girl would really appreciate it….thanks

Tess has arrived to her foster home this afternoon. I’ve got her settled in but she’s not happy being in the crate! Unfortunately as she’s wearing ‘the cone of shame’ I can’t even give her a chewy treat as she can’t handle it.
Anyway she’s home here for the next 6/8 weeks as she recovers with crate rest. I’ll update in the next few days. I know a lot of people have donated for her vet fees so I just wanted to let you know she’s ok.

Well Tess and I have had a full on 24 hours to get to know each other and we are best of buddies. A few things were re-arranged as she’s bigger than I thought. She’s quite happy once in the crate and is very tired, so after some crying she’s out for the count. She’s allowed out a few times a day just in the kitchen when supervised. Normally when she’s on her toilet break she gets to stay out while I become her pillow. She is so friendly, tail wagging and all happy head. Obviously used to cuddling a human…
Great eater and food motivated which was helping to get her back into the crate…but she’s copped on now!!
Any tips on placing water bowl in crate? She needs it but blankets keep getting knocked into the dish?
Also, any tips on getting her happily into the crate after her breaks? Don’t want to force her and as she’s stitches from being spayed, I can’t really lift her in (although she’s a bit big and heavy for me!).
So watch this space for more updates on darling Tess.

Hi Yvonne thanks for playing Nursemaid for Tess.
Maybe a Kong with different tastes each time would entise her in.
Also I am sure there are bolt on water bowls I know there are clip on but they are too small. I will check that out later

Tess is an absolute teddy bear. Her coat, although it looks wire-haired, is really like silk. And there’s lots of it. She is an extremely affectionate girl.
She is getting fed up in the crate and crying more, so I went to Petworld today and they advised me on some strong durable toys to amuse her.
She’s just had a great chew on her rawhide bone. Then Marie (thank you) I bought a tough Kong and filled that and she went into the crate after it.
As I’m home nearly all the time I let her out of the crate as she just stretches out on the floor and snoozes. The vet just didn’t want her jumping or running, but she has no intention of doing either yet. I also take the collar off when I’m with her as she hasn’t been at her wounds at all and they are nice and dry.
The next few weeks are gonna be tough on both of us as I hate hearing her crying, but the vet nurse said what she needed most was Tough Love!!

Well done Yvonne, she looks an absolute dote. Now that I look at the photos closer she does have lovely silky hair.
It won’t be long before she is running around the place.

Oh Yvonne, Tess is absolutely gorgeous. I can imagine it’s not easy on either of you keeping her confined to a crate the majority of the time, especially since she’s been through so much already at such a young age. But well done, looks like you’re doing a brilliant job, as always.

Well Tess, you look much happier than your first pictures, what a transformation!
Maybe try hiding tiny bits of treats (frankfurter works well) in her crate, make it into a "find it" game. might help her to like going in.
You could try wrapping the kong in several old pieces of clean cloth and tie them with little pieces of treat between each one, it might occupy her for a while?

A little update on Tess….can’t believe she is here a week already! Tess is doing fantastic. She is a dream of a dog. Both Tess and I want to thank everyone for their lovely comments and especially for the tips on entertaining Tess during her confinement. The Kong is working a treat while she’s in the crate (although she can’t have it on the floor as she bounces it and I have to fetch (role reversal) ).

Thanks to Claire who dropped over a second crate so now I can take Tess into the sitting room at night and she can watch TV with us We are getting on great with the crate now – she knows I will let her out often. I just have to get her head in the door and she walks in herself then. Tess is very clean – no accidents. She goes outside to do all her business, so someone trained this baby…
