Another gem of a dog and good looking too.
This boy is so sweet and gentle and seem a very kind type.
He is good with other dogs and was fine with my son who is 12 years old.
It’s sad that his family would not reclaim him :?

We picked Spencer up on Sunday and despite quite a long journey he was great in the car, not travel sick at all although he does like someone to be in the back with him.

He is an incredibly affectionate boy who loves to be near you, he cant sit or lay down unless he is touching you and I dont think his day is complete unless he has licked Seán’s beard at least a dozen times! He doesn’t like being left alone and cries if we leave him in a different room. He is good at night though, normally settling after 15 minutes or so.

Spencer is nearly housetrained! after a few accidents on the first couple of days he seems to have re-learnt that he needs to go outside. His signals are very discrete though, so if you miss his first lap of our living room, the rug gets it!

We found out on the first day that he is quite scared of water, we live in Glendalough and you have to cross a river across stepping stones to get into the lakes. Spencer would not budge and had to be carried across on the first day, like a baby! He has now mastered the stepping stones but avoids any puddles, often pushing us straight into them.

Spencer is getting better on the lead and if there is no-one else around he will walk at heal most of the time. However he is an incredibly excitable boy and at the first glimpse of other people or dogs he pulls a lot and often manages to leap about 3 foot in the air (we were wondering if he was crossed with a Kangaroo!). This is particularly bad around children who, although he seems to love them, he has an inbuilt desire to round them up like a flock of sheep, so spends most of his time around them on 2 legs at most! Kathy has kindly organised some training sessions so I’m sure with a little help he will calm down soon!

We have quite a large garden but it isnt enclosed, and Spencer’s recall isn’t great yet so most of our games of fetch have been limited by an extendable cord lead. However today we went to an enclosed garden and Spencer got to run for the first time since we’ve had him, and boy did he have fun. He loves playing fetch and even gives the ball back.

He has bundles of energy and even after 3 long walks a day he looks at you with an expression of ‘what now’. Today after his stint in the garden is the first time he has actually looked worn out! He would definitely need a home where he can run around and get lots of long walks.

He is a beautiful boy and I don’t think the photos do him justice.

He loved the agility and took to it straight away!

    They took a video:

A quick update on Spencer: He has now mastered his ‘I need the toilet’ signals and is fully house trained :-) (great news for the rug!)

He was neutered last week, and apart from feeling a bit sorry for himself with his cone on his head he is doing great – he has even worked out that he can play fetch all by himself by flipping balls/toys with the cone – clever boy!

He is unfortunately suffering from a mild kennel cough so training has been put on hold for a couple of weeks but we will be raring to go as soon as he is better.

Spencer has really blossomed in his foster home and is now part of a regular dog walking gang who meet up for a walk and then head to the local dog friendly cafe for a coffee and a catch up ;)

He is adored by Sarah and Sean and has decided to adopt them so will not be changing address! They have promised loads of updates and will continue his agility training as he certainly shows some promise in that area so watch this space :D
