December 10, 2009 at 7:56 pm #91035CathyMemberRusty has been with us for 5 weeks now and judging by his reactions to any new situations we would think that he was left to his own devices where ever he was before he arrived in Ashton. He doesn’t appear to have been socialised with either people or dogs.
He was terrified when he arrived here.. he did not know what to make of the all dogs who are always very receptive to newcomers… he was growling and trying his best to hide behind me !! He also attached himself to me and had to follow me everywhere as he got so stressed out if I did not allow this.
Then Rusty got very sick. He visited Argyle & Bainbridge initally and was not good with Malcolm the vet at all, this continued to be the case in Cara where he spent a week.
Since he’s come home we have been working on these issues that he has. Any aggression seems to be fear based but he is slowly overcoming these fears.
Rusty is a very loving little chap who is most content when he is by your side .. or on your knee !! . He is only a puppy and and is very quick to learn. He will make someone a very loyal companion but he needs someone who will take the time to continue to work with him on any issues he may still have.December 11, 2009 at 10:18 am #91059RikaMemberoh this gourgeous little man.
He could be Snoops brother also from his behavoir. Full of fear but attack is the best defence.
Sure he will come around soon if he is not only the younger look alike version of Snoop the new Family will have the most loyal, lively and also quiet dog.All the best Rusty!
December 28, 2009 at 6:07 pm #91947CathyMemberSo Rusty finally finshed his vaccinations and was out on his first walk. He was very good and came back when I called him. He stayed close enough and was fine with any of the dogs we met.
He is not great in the car but I think this will improve.
He is a very loving little pup who’s behaviour has improved so much since he came here however he can still be unpredictable and react badly to change and the unknown…. when this happens he means business !!! It is a fear based agression and can be ‘fixed’ but only with very strict routine and training !!
He well not try this on with me now but he will with strangers and anyone who he thinks he may get away with it !!
What this puppy needs is a home where they have experience in dog training and have the time to put in to him. If this happens his family will be rewarded with a very loyal little dog who loves nothing more that cuddling up to you on the couchJanuary 6, 2010 at 10:22 am #92346kaydoyleMemberJanuary 6, 2010 at 10:26 am #92274kaydoyleMemberJanuary 6, 2010 at 10:32 am #92278kaydoyleMemberFebruary 1, 2010 at 11:26 am #93368belzebubMemberRusty who has been renamed to Jigsaw has started to settle in at his new home. He has reverted back to doing some small bad habits and we are working with him to correct these . Overall he is getting on well with the cats and seems to be enjoying playing with Lestat (White deaf cat).
As we get time we will post more updates.
