I am so happy that Velvet is now in an enviornment that she can (eventually) relax in with people that she can learn to trust again. I wish we could explain things to dogs but we can’t, well not in words. I have no doubt that all your experience Audrey will be tested to the limit because of the very traumatic experience Velvet has been through, albeit for her own good! Poor dog but there was no option. The vibes continue and I hope that Velvet will be able to relax and rest. I still think the practice should have allowed you more access to Velvet during her stay just because she was a traumatised dog to start with and everything that had to happen to her has just added mountains of stress onto her little shoulders. I wish you and Velvet all the very best and I will be thinking of you both on a daily basis. :)

Poor little baby. It must have been a truely awful week for her – and for you Audrey.

I hope now that she is home with you and getting lots of love and cuddles that she will be able to relax and realise that all is ok now.

We’re still on the heaven stormin mission ! :( :)

I’m glad she’s home with you now, I’m sure she is too! Poor little pet, but her progress already after such a big op is amazing! Velvet you are a little miracle and we will keep sending our prayers that she gets stronger and stronger!

Such a relief that she’s back home with you now Audrey. I’m thinking that the best forever home this baby could have would be with you after all you’ve been through together. I think she’d find it hard to settle anywhere else and I think your bond with her is now too strong to break. Hugs to you both x

Isn’t that the most wonderful news I have been thinking about Velvet and her wonderful foster mammy all the time and hoped so much that when I clicked on this evening that there would be good news. Well done everyone to get this far. She will soon get better now , there is nothing like your own home is there. :)

Well Velvet slept a full night last night and looked the better for it today…..she is doing well all things considered.

Today she had the unpleasant ordeal of her wound bandage being removed and thanks to her special fairy godmother Lainey, doggy chocolate buttons and pate we got the all important job done…never would have managed it on my own. She slept alot afterwards as I knew it took alot out of her never mind myself and Lainey.

So hopefully she will be well rested for her big day tomorrow – her first check up after surgery but way more importantly her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

She is one amazing little pup and I am so lucky have seen her come out the other side of all she has had to overcome in such a short time.

    Will update tomorrow folks.

I have everything crossed for you both tomorrow. I just hope the practice will allow you to stay with Velvet for her scan. Oh, I so hope whatever they did has worked and she never has to go through another surgery or admission to the practice/hospital again! Its all going to take a long time but slowly, slowly, you will eventuall get there. As for a first birthday, well heck :) . Not the trip you want on your birthday Velvet but the rest of the day will be great. You can spend it at home with your favourite people. Very best wishes for tomorrow, I will be thinking of you all.

Velvet’s big day started early 5am so much for me thinking normality was to resume…….firstly her check up and overall her surgeon was very pleased with her progress but she wasn’t too happy with her examination even thought it was on her terms in the back of the jeep.

She is going back into hospital next week for her post op xray to see how her lungs are coping with the changes of the procedure. She will be going under another a sedative and thankfully while under they are going to take out all the staples of which there are many. She also has a huge senistivity now on her tail so that is going to be examined while she is under too.

Thanks for the birthday wishes she was very happy with her birthday present of a treat ball, an outdoor coat and we are scouring the petweb stores to find a similar jumper that Esma passed on which is perfect for Velvet, We are waiting for Rossi and Tess to get back after her staples are removed to have a pawty to celebrate everything that is Velvet her spirit, her gentleness, her puppinesss and being the definition of the word survivor.

It’s great to see photos of the party girl! So glad the check-up went well (and no bitten nurses!); she does look tired after her long day and celebrations. She needs to get her strength up now for the pawty with Rossi and Tess! ;) Fingers and paws crossed for her post-op x-ray etc. next week.

:) Velvet, I think you look rather grown up in one of your most recent photos. Very smart in your red coat, goes very well with your own lovely black and white coat. I know your own coat has a few patches missing but it will all grow back soon. To think that you had major surgery just over a week ago, well, what can anyone say about your recovery so far, its fantastic. Early days I know. You will get stronger with each passing hour, time and your great foster family will help you forget your stay in hospital. I hope you get through your next visit with slightly less stress than your first! Its a big step getting all the staples removed and that should help you feel a bit more normal. Once you are back on your paws your poor foster mother will have to go into care and get a bit of pampering herself to help her recover from the huge trauma you have both been through ;) .

Indianna, I think Velvet was more perturbed being photographed when she was tired ….believe me after the last two days she is definately still a puppy…..its been non stop play for the last two days and she is coming looking for cuddles on the couch again so she mustn’t be feeling as sore now that she is looking for contact. When she gets tired of playing fetch she then turns the table and stands on the couch drops the ball down the back and barks at it for a bit and then goes rustling through the curtains for her prize possession. But sometimes she just drops it and barks for me to do the retrieving….she is too clever sometimes. Fingers and Paws crossed for a good result on wednesday.
