December 16, 2011 at 11:29 pm #107630LuvMyFurKidsMemberToday was a long one ……Velvet had an ECG and a heart scan. It broke my heart to leave her there this morning as she had her legs wrapped around my arm and she was petrified.
She was as good as gold throughout the whole day but was so happy to see me this evening bless her. The news was mixed on one hand they were happy with the outcome of the operation and the shunt has closed off the majority of the cross flowing blood but there is still a trickle getting through of which they are not to concerned about. However the damage that had been done to the heart prior to the operation has not reduced in any way and as the heart is not contracting properly because its not strong enough as a result its giving her a weak pulse. So her medication has been increased and she is due back to the overseas specialist at the end of March. They are coming up with an exercise plan in order to not put undue pressure on her heart but give her some activity. So hopefully the increase in the meds will strenghtn the heart and increase her blood flow around her little body – however she has to be monitored constantly incase there is a change in her condition….she did step on the scales and I was delighted to see that she is now a perfect healthy weight of 15kg…….after the stressful day she is now snoozing by the Christmas tree in her Christmas coat which was the talk of the hospital today.I know its a big ask but fingers, toes and paws will have to remain crossed for another while but we will keep everyone posted on the little lady’s progress.
December 16, 2011 at 11:39 pm #107625MutleyMemberVelvet doesn’t know how brave she has been throughout this. Hopefully the increased medication and exercise plan will help – all paws tightly crossed here! Good to hear she has her priorities right this evening! You’re a star for getting her to this stage, Audrey.
December 17, 2011 at 8:35 am #107631IndiannaMemberA mixed result indeed but its still early days. We have to remember just how seriously ill Velvet was and any improvement is great. I hope the drugs help and as far as having your own exercise regime – well, that takes you to diva level Velvet I continue to keep everything crossed for you and also send best wishes to your foster mother

December 27, 2011 at 9:35 am #107766IndiannaMemberWhat a busy dog you are Velvet. Doing the laundry, testing the comfort of the back of the ‘dog bed’ while waiting for Santa. Deciding to give up your place on that lovely ‘dog bed’ for your human to sit beside the rest of the pack for the photo session. Hope she doesn’t think she can just get on all the furniture now:lol: . Looking good Velvet, keep up the good work
December 27, 2011 at 11:34 am #107768fredisbestMemberRossi and all the ladies lookin’ good.

December 27, 2011 at 9:31 pm #107473brooksy1501MemberFabulous photos….she is looking in wonderful condition and an absolute credit to your care Audrey x
January 1, 2012 at 8:58 pm #107848LuvMyFurKidsMemberThanks and Velvet wishes everyone a happy new year….she has had a very busy christmas puppy parties each day…
she had seven different four legged friends come and stay at different stages over the break…..and she has been great with them…..and the puppy in her is coming out more and more now….she is playing much more and getting in on the fun thats going on rather than observing & commenting from the sidelines vocally I may add.
But the disappionting news is that she has started a phantom pregnancy….new experience for both of us so we will keep you posted but thankfully not displaying any hording of toys or knarkiness.
2012-12 Christmas Part 3 005.JPGJanuary 1, 2012 at 9:09 pm #107849MutleyMemberPoor Velvet, she certainly has a lot to contend with! She’s a little treasure.
January 1, 2012 at 9:21 pm #107852brooksy1501MemberHappy New Year to you all. Let’s hope 2010 is a great year for Velvet. She sure has been through the mill. What happens with this phantom pregnancy?
January 1, 2012 at 10:38 pm #107855LuvMyFurKidsMemberHer body is telling her that she is with puppies even though she isn’t and because of her heart condition she is in no fit state to be spayed…..therefore she until its deemed safe will not have a spay operation the risks involved in not spaying her is that she is then at a high risk of getting Pyrometra…..which is one of the most evil of female dog diseases..its another reason why its so important to spay our female dogs who have no medical conditions.
So fingers and paws crossed that this phantom pregnancy is a one off for Velvet as she has had enough and still has to deal with and deserves some more good luck to come her way.
January 2, 2012 at 6:41 pm #107872brooksy1501MemberPoor girl….we seem to have fingers and paws permanently crossed for her. Let’s hope she is soon free of all ills and worries.
My heart turns over when I see the photos of her…she is so beautiful, but there is no way we can take on another dog (until we win the lottery!) x -
