Little Opal is a one year old female Dachshund Terrier X, she is very small and cute and cuddley. She is a very good little girl, she has had only one little accident so far. She is good with cats, children and other dogs. (Unfortunatley my cat doesn’t particularly like Opal but Opal gets the message and leaves her alone.) She is good on the lead and good in the car. All round she is just brilliant. I love having her around. She will make a wonderful addition to someone’s family!

What a cute little girl :)
Love her video, she is so good playing gently in it.
Well done John for acting as the supporting cast :)

She is really gentle alright, she a lovely little dog, she doesn’t have an agressive bone in her body.

We went to the Phoenix Park this evening and had a good long walk through the fields. She’s good off the lead. She’s so funny, she literally runs big circles around us as we walk along – I really don’t know how she doesn’t get dizzy, or she runs ahead and back to us and she has the cutest little gait, she’s like a little fawn bouncing around the place.

Opal is house trained already and has also learned to sit on command. Now she’s learning stay.

I’ll make a little video this weekend to show you all how good she is.

Thanks for your lovely words about little Opal – she’s such a great little dog, I love her more and more every day – her personality is really shining through now.

You’re right though, she will need a home with lots of company, spending long days alone would not be good for her. Both myself and my partner work full time, however my sister lives in the area and has been very good about visiting during the day and taking Opal out and I have a second friend who is doing the same for us. However they are not available every day. Some days Opal spends too long on her own. This is why I’m a fosterer and don’t have a permanent dog in my life. The kind of home that I can provide is really only acceptable short term – its an emergency response measure. I should have a blue flashing light on the roof of my house!

Latest update – she’s now learned "stay" and has also learned not to go upstairs. We allowed her to initially but the cat (Harriet) can’t stand the sight of Opal and has decamped to upstairs. A pity as I’m sure Opal has it in her to be a great little buddy to a cat who likes dogs.

Got some more video this weekend – will upload soon.
