Meet the lovely Erin who is now looking for a home to call her own. She is 5 years old. She came to Ashton as a stray heavily pregnant and went into foster with Marie, where she had six beautiful puppies. She was a brilliant mam and looked after her pups with great care. All of her pups have since gone to their forever homes and Erin is in foster with me.She is a smashing girl! Great company to have around. She is one of the cleanest dogs Ive ever fostered and generally prefers to ‘clean’ on the lead – most of the time she wont even go to the toliet in the garden! Even in the park, she always picks an out of the way spot to do her business. She is extremely calm in the house and is as good as gold. She sleeps in my bedroom at night, although she does have the run of the house. Erin is great with other dogs and on meeting dogs out and about has a quick sniff and goes about her business. Herself and Jess at first didnt exactly see eye to eye – they were both wondering who the other woman was, but now they are inseparable in the park chasing the ball. Erin doesnt really play with other dogs – I dont think she knows how ‘yet’- but were getting there. I cracked open all the dog toys and she now larks about like a pup during play time! Her favourite – apart from chasing the ball – is the rope toys. She just loves to play tug of war and for you to give her a good chase. Ive been working with her everyday to get her to interact a bit more with Jess and she is coming out of herself more and moreShe is quite submissive towards other dogs and is always the first to back down when playing or otherwise. Id say she had a far to firm hand so to speak taken with her in her previous life – she hates being told off. She is nervous of strange men – more so of those wearing something different,eg. sunglasses, brightly coloured top, a hat pulled low over the face. She will bark but stops when firmly told ‘NO’. I dont think she will ever fully get over her fear of strange men, but the more she relaxes in new environment’s the better she will become. I always have treats with me and any man whos wishes to pet her, she gets a treat. Were getting there hopefully!Ive had her nearly two weeks now and her fitness level was non existant at first. Five runs for the ball and she was done. Ive been alternating between walking and running for the ball, along with getting her to jump for rope toys and leads and she is improving every day. Ideally, Id like to get her swimming too (anything thats helps tighten up the belly muscles really) but havent gotten that far yet. Tonight I had five helpers in the park, and she ran for an hour and 15 mins, by the end of it all she was able to do was trot for the ball! She is shedding her coat at the moment, and alot of that has to so with hormones after having her pups so brushing her out needs doing everyday. She will soon be even more gorgeous than she already is!
Erin is a fantasic eater – loves fish mixed in with her food, but will eat anything Im having. She pulls a little on the lead for the first five minutes but settles down once you get going. She is a very sensitive girl and always knows if your feeling a little tired or upset over something. She is very eager to please and is loyal to the core – shes the type of dog that would follow you to the end of the earth once she knows your her companion and friend. She gets very excited when she knows shes going for a walk and does bark when your putting on the lead, also loves to bark when chasing the ball with Jess or when she wants you to ‘HURRY UP AND THROW IT!’ Her recall is perfect. Erin loves being brushed, she would sit for hours if you wanted her to. She knows all basic commands, sit, stay, lie down, give the paw, etc.
