Dolly is a fantastic 10 month old retriever. She is spayed, microchipped and has all her vaccinations.
She is an active girl who is better suited to a home with another dog to keep her company as she thrives with other dogs! This Beauty is a dream girl. As well as being a total stunner, she is great on the lead, has no food aggression, loves other dogs and is absolutely crazy about children. She will just sit there for ages while they fuss over her and she follows my daughter everywhere . Like all working breeds she would be best suited to an active household. I would love to see her go to a family with kids and another dog who will help to keep this very active lady occupied. She is a very energetic dog but once she has a good walk she is more than happy to curl up at your feet for a snooze…which is where she is as I type

We walked down to my Mams to burn off some of her boundless energy, on the way we pass 2 National schools and OMG does Dolly love children….and they love her just as much. She was showered with attention and our walk took a little longer than usual She is a very affectionate girl who loves cuddles and belly rubs. She loves her walks and just wants to say hello to everyone she passes She trots along with her head held high fur blowing in the breeze with what looks a smile on her gorgeous face. She really is a joy to have around.

Dolly on the other hand is having none of it and has attempted on several occasions to get a game of house chasing going without any success At one point she went from bed to bed jumping around with hopeful expectation of any kind of response from my lazy lot….alas no joy So with wellies on I’m heading out to give her a good walk. She has a lot of energy even if no one else in the house does today!!!!
February 11, 2012 at 9:51 am #108368AnonymousInactiveWe headed out this morning for an early walk and as I don’t know yet how her recall would be in new surroundings I decided to be careful and just put her on an extendable lead……and soon discovered she likes to chase birds, obviously being a retriever pup. Which wouldn’t be too bad if there wasn’t a gaggle of Brent geese taking up residence on the green near my house I think 1 of my arms is at least 3" longer than the other. Once the lead was retracted all was good and she looked decidedly pleased with herself. Note to self next time bring treats as she is majorly food driven.

1) She is an extremely high energy dog who will need at least 1 hour of brisk walking per day to burn it off otherwise she gets bored which leads to mischief
2) Labs stay in puppy mode longer than other dogs which means proper training is a must, they are a working breed and very food driven, so if you are willing they will be too. Take it from me an untrained fully grown Lab can be a law unto their own
3) Dolly is still quite jumpy so she would be better with children of 7 years +
4) She is an absolute pleasure to have around
As an owner of 3 Labs…any bad habits Dolly has doesn’t even phase me and I know she will eventually grow out of them!!! But for now she needs regular exercise and mental stimulation. Labradors are hard work…..but make the best friends.
February 19, 2012 at 5:10 pm #89699AnonymousInactiveI have been walking Dolly alone and on the lead while she gets used to me but today I took the two ladies out together….Holly and Dolly and what a difference canine company makes to her, I noticed a definite extra spring in her step. When we got to the green some of Hollys buddies Jake the red setter and his jack russell pal were off lead playing ball so I bit the bullet and unleashed the hounds. She was in her element and even when everyone else was exhausted she was still go go go. Holly is now unconscious and Dolly is involved in a Royal Rumble with Buster and Rocky in the garden!!!!!
February 20, 2012 at 9:30 am #108390AnonymousInactiveI was looking forward to a lie in today….Dolly had other ideas so we’ve had breakfast and a game of ball which she loves and she is now trying to get a game of anything going with any of my lot!!!! Its funny to see the confusion on her face when they ignore her. There are a group of dog owners that meet on the green for play dates everyday so i’m gonna bring her today.

You have to watch her body language to anticipate any distractions but a stern "NO" when you notice something has grabbed her attention seemed to work. We met a gorgeous puppy Bobbi and the 2 of them bounded and wrestled non stop until they both raced over to say Hi to 2 Yorkies….which didn’t go down too well with their owners She got caught up in the excitement of 2 potential new buddies and it was my fault for assuming that if dogs are taken off lead in a field already occupied by 2 other playful pups then they would be willing participants in the fun and games…oops. But she came back and obediently sat down to get her lead back on!!! On the walk home she fell behind exhausted from all the puppy play and hasn’t moved since Dolly would really benefit from a canine companion in her new home.

Here come the girls.jpgFebruary 24, 2012 at 7:48 am #106736AnonymousInactiveI just can’t say enough about this beautiful girl. She has really settled in well, when I get to the top on the stairs in the morning its as if she is going to burst with excitement to see me and herself and my 3 nutters all clamber to the gate like stampeding buffalo to get the first morning rub She does this funny thing were she stands on her hind legs with her front paws on you and arches her back like a cat looking for a good scratch!!! I discovered last night her love for belly rubs, her face reminded me of Homer Simpson thinking about doughnuts while she lay on her back enjoying all the attention….when you stop she looks at you ears up as if to say "did i say you could stop?". She knows now when i seperate the girls from the boys it means walkies and she runs to the door where she sits to get her lead on. She still wants to say hi to everyone but its now easier to check her. She does this extraordinary thing with children were she looks like she’s going to run through them but then at the last second she turns and sits against them looking up for a rub, I have seen her do it on 3 occasions!!! She also did my favourite thing last night…i let her off the lead at theend of the road and as she got to my gate she automatically turned into the garden and up to the front door
February 24, 2012 at 10:04 am #106731AnonymousInactiveI just had to post this photo. Dolly torments Rocky during the day for constant fun and games and he’s such a big softie (much to his detriment) that he never gets cross with her unlike the other 2. But a photo like this speaks volumes
Dolly 6.jpgFebruary 28, 2012 at 8:45 am #108629AnonymousInactiveFriday was such a fab day and Holly needed her ears and nails checked so i decided to walk to the vets…..approx 5km each way. I brought Dolly too and she loved it. We took a more leisurely pace than normal and got there in about an hour and 10 minutes. My wonderful vet is never surprised to see me with a new addition to my gang and popped her on the scales to reveal a healthy weight of 20kg. He agreed how gorgeous she is but also how much time she will need in terms of exercise and training. On the walk back Dolly got a bit tired and after a huge drink herself and Holly conked out for the rest of the evening!!! She is getting a bit cheeky obviously from the bad influence of my lot and has started to get up on the couch!!! She does it very slyly….she comes over for some attention and gradually one paw then another then a back paw and then a swift ninja like move and she’s on your lap!!! But its hard to resist that face and she usually gets a snuggle before being banished to the floor and the choice of dog beds
March 2, 2012 at 8:15 pm #108689taraMemberThis lovley girl met her forever family and will be heading off with them and her new big (but littler than her!!) brother Oisin tomorrow.
