MemberCinders came down to us from Dublin last Thursday and its as though she has always been a part of our family. After a rocky first night and a not so amicable introduction to our rescue Collie/Alsation x Brin she is now firmly one of the family. We have only just decided on her new name, Baya, having gone through a series of about 20 different ones!! But thats girls for you as both myself and our 2 daughters had to have a say.
Baya is the most gentle, affectionate and loving dog that I have ever met (Brin excluded, of course, as he is just totally adorable) and she just loves the girls- who have no fear of her at all, despite her size. She has met the rescue cats and even little Lilly, who has grown up with Brin, goes up to sniff her from time to time. Baya is great on and off the lead and never wants to be far from my side. She has enjoyed daily walks up and down our country roads and had her first trip to the beach last Saturday- I dont think she was so sure of the sand and noise of the waves at first but had a ball exploring the sand dunes with Brin and the very fit girls.
She is so funny to watch as she still has alot of settling in to do and so is so inquisitive of all that is going on around her. Our chickens are a great source of fasination and she is constantly twiching around to make sure all her new pack are not too far away from her.
I am so very pleased that we decided to make that call to enquire about her- she is a real delight and my daughters have already declared that they love her. As I am typing this she is sniffing at the keyboard….and shes only 8 months old. Our newest game is guessing what size she will grow too!!
Thank you to all at dogsindistress. We are so happy with our new family member. And Baya looks pretty chuffed too!!January 15, 2009 at 4:32 pm #82695ccampbell
MemberSorry- I meant to also add a very big thank you to her foster family. I now understand why you felt so strongly about her. She is so special. The best part for Baya is that we have underfloor heating so is happy collasping in any part of the house-but definately her fav spot is in front of the stove. I will post pictures as soon as possible.

MemberBig hug delivered…to the most gorgeous of dogs. Will post pictures as soon as possible. Baya sleeps with Brin in their own room, single beds of course, and has the run of our 1/2 acre garden so she gets plenty of exercise as well as her short walks. I try to limit her time playing as I dont want to overtire her at the moment. As I posted she is still settling in and this may take a little while yet. She did have an upset stomach for a couple of days but, what with a long journey and changes of venue, you could not blame her one bit. Where we live is so quiet. Just us, surrounded by fields and 3 farm holdings, with the beach only 15 minutes away. We are total beach people so spend most of our spare time there (when not taming the garden). Brin has adapted well to environment and I am sure (judging by her antics on Saturday) that Baya will too. It will interesting to see if she attempts to go into the surf- maybe, like Brin, she will want to follow the children.
I work mostly from home so am around for our animals for the majority of the time. I just love working in the office and having the dogs contently lying at my feet- sure couldn’t do this if I went out to work.
You did such a great job of fostering her- she came in such great condition. All we shall try to do now is build her confidence and book her and Michel into dog obediance classes. I think he needs a little training!!
All the best Catherine and good luck with your new foster dogs.
