A bit confused with Brian, getting thrown by his youthful looks. Has anyone walked him and does he look as young in the photo, maybe he looks older in reality. Did I see him last weekend? Will have a look for him this weekend. He looks really nice.
This boy does look young for his age but his teeth tell a different story
A very very nice fella. Only small – medium in size.
Brian is an absolute wee dote. Photos of him are great.
Although I have not met him, I once owned a wee CollieX, same size and looked very similar to him. She lived until she was 18 years of age!!! She had a great life. Her heart was still strong, even at the end.
He deserves a good and loving home, such a lovely looking wee dog.
Brian is a lovely dog and has lots of life and personality.!!! He is grand on the lead and gets on well with the other dogs. He has a little whimper, he uses this if he is too far away from his canine friends, he likes to be close to them. He was sitting patiently in his kennel when I went to take him out. He had no collar so had to go looking for one, so he was very very patient. He is a small dog with a petite frame. Gorgeous fella.
what will happen to brian? will he just stay at the pound till he gets homed from there? or is the 7 day "claim" period the only time for him to be offered a home?
There is a five day window for this owners to reclaim him. After that he is free to be rehomed directly from Ashtown….. or there could come an offer of a foster home for him, that way he’d be in the care of DID awaiting his forever home
Do they tend to get re-homed fairly quickly from ashtown? Are they able to keep them until they find a home or are they ever at risk of being pts because of space? or are DID always able to prevent this?
Sorry to put this post here I know it’s not specifically to do with brian.
All dogs under urgent action are at risk especially when the pound is full. They have to make space as more dogs come in. DID do the very best to make sure that all healthy dogs get out and safe but they are relying on offers from other rescues or from foster homes which are often full themselves.
Wanted to get this brief posting on the Forum immediately, due to the length of time the "Very Handsome BRIAN" has been in
Ashton Pound!!!
Offer of a "Forever Home" for BRIAN, and he can be collected this Saturday morning.
Will put further posting on this evening.
Ps
Can a dog be homed out of the Pound on a Saturday morning and can a Mastercard be used for the fees?
Further to my previous post last Saturday, seeing that BRIAN is still in Ashton Pound, I would like to offer him his "Forever Home" with my girls and boys in Northern Ireland.
I can collect him first thing this Saturday morning.
BRIAN is just a handsome wee dote and he will never have another worry in the world again, running along the beach most days with
my Hollee, a German Shepherd/GreyhoundX and
Evie, a Doberman/Springer SpanielX, playing fling the ball!
Cuddling up to his feline brothers and sisters too, one of them with one eye and one with 3 legs. A warm bed with his sisters. A secure garden to run around in. Treats galore! Loads of hugs and kisses too!
Spoke to Julie and Bridget in Ashton Pound on the phone at the beginning of December 2009, with regards to coming down and homing one of the wee dogs in the Pound at the time. But I realised it was just too soon, after the passing of my wee 14.5 year old minature black pomeranian in October 2009. Both Julie and Bridget were very helpful. Sophie is still missed terribly by us all, but I think BRIAN’s plight is a special reason to rehome another wee dog. He is moving further and further down the urgent action list!
Can anyone tell me if dogs can be rehomed on a Saturday from Ashton Pound and if they accept Mastercard? If not I can get money changed to euros tomorrow.
Hang in there BRIAN, your "Forever Home" awaits you this Saturday!
They dont have credit card facilities at the pound – they can only accept cash. Also it would be best to ring the pound tomorrow to confirm with them that you are coming down on Saturday. Best of luck ![]()
Thank you kaydoyle for your posting. I really appreciate it.
I will phone Ashton Pound tomorrow morn to clarify things and all
being well I will be able to bring Brian home. I have their phone number from the previous time.
Seeing him going further and further down the urgent action list is
heartbreaking and I think a more mature boy like him, 7-8 years old, is just what we need. Ages of my girls and boys at the moment range from 1 year to 7 years. I know this wee dog will be an absolute character, by looking at his photos and reading the other postings.
He deserves the chance for a new life after all he has been through!
Really looking forward to meeting Brian, taking him for a wee
dander at the Pound, and then making him feel safe and secure in the car for his journey home.
I have everything crossed and I am hoping it all works out too!
Even bought a new blue collar tonight for him!
Best Wishes and Thanks Again for your help.
Hi There
Incase you dont get through to the pound today (Fridays a very busy day there), the procedure is that you fill out a request form at the pound for the chosen dog, and they can take up to 10 applications on each dog and then the pound manager picks whichever home is more suitable for that dog, so it’s not first come first served sort of basis. No one is ever guarenteed to get the dog they have chosen so please don’t get your hopes up, and if you fill out a form over the weekend it won’t be reviewed until Monday when the pound manager is back in work.
Best of luck, have fingers crossed for you and Brian! ![]()
I collected my Steve on a Saturday from Ashtown however I’d been up the previous week and filled in an application form. This had been reviewed midweek by pound Manager (don’t think the Manager is there at weekends). I was approved and able to bring him home the following Saturday. You can definitely pick up a dog at the weekend but may not get approved to rehome there and then. Also you need to have cash to hand. There is a fee to rehome and you have to pay your dog licence before taking your new addition home. Best of luck. Of course because you are travelling a distance down they may waiver their usual policy. Fingers crossed.
Hi Animalhelper and YvonneM
Just getting your messages now.
Thank you for your postings earlier today. I have found them very helpful. I have to say this site "Dogs in Distress" is excellent and the people on it and the staff at Ashton Pound are all very helpful. I found you all on the web, by chance back in November 2009 and have been looking at it ever since.
Ashton Pound was very very busy today, as you said, but
I eventually got through at about 11.30am and I spoke to Bridget.
I have arranged to go down to the Pound tomorrow morning to meet the lovely BRIAN. I will be there 10.00am or earlier, waiting at the gates, unless I get lost, though I have my googlemaps printed off. Can’t wait to meet him, give him a big hug, and take him for a wee dander! I will complete the relevant forms, await approval, and
if I am approved, Bridget has assured me that they will hold on to BRIAN until I can get a days leave from work, next week, to get back down to get him! I do understand that all rehoming has to be approved by the Pound Manager. Quite right too.
BRIAN sending all our love to you!
Oh dear, as I look out the window here, it is snowing heavily!!!
If I have to "hire a snowplough tomorrow" morning, to get to Ashton Pound, I will!!! Hopefully the gritters will be out tonight!
Best Wishes to you all.
