What can I say about this guy…. not only is he absolutely beautiful he is also such a gent.
He was skin & bone when we first got him but is slowly putting on weight. Average weight for male Weimaraners is 30-40kg, Bailey was barely 10kg
. Anyway it is ONWARDS AND UPWARDS FOR HIM NOW, only positives coming his way
Even though he is so thin, he is so gentle taking treats and has absolutely no food issues at all. He gets on great with the other dogs, never a bark or a growl. He loves going for walks although I am trying to keep them short as I want him to gain weight not loose it! His recall is great
I have a feeling there is lots more to his personality, we just haven’t seen it yet ![]()
Ah it’s great to see Bailey, Carolyn! I am just finishing up a stint of work experience down in Terenure vets and I was MAD about this guy when he was there. He is, as you say, an absolute dote and so patient with everything.
I was thrilled when I heard you had taken him into foster cos I know he will get the best of everything !!!
Best of luck, Bailey. ![]()
Hi I am a proud basset owner and recently have had reason to mind different dogs including a near dead starved dog over Christmas. Last week I minded a JRT and the big thing we’ve learned is that another dog in the house is great. Iveagh has had a lease of life with the company. I have 2 kids a girl almost 9 and boy 12. I am self employed but home most of the time. I am interested to know more about Bailey. Perhaps you might think he mightn’t be a good match for our family but anyway – I just thought I’d bounce you a message. how is he with young people? Why is he so skinny? Was it neglect or an underlying condition? Well done on your work with him.
Hi – I only registered yesterday and submitted a reply. It hasn’t appeared yet for some reason. Is Bailey adopted yet or is he sorted? Do you now why he lost all the weight? was it neglect and cruelty or could it be an underlying condition?
Bailey has a family to meet him tomorrow….
He had been neglected & was straying so was underweight…he has no underlying condition is now looking fab….

Hi all.. I am the previous owner of Bailey and have been liaising with DID.. With whom I owe a great debt on looking out for this friend. In short.. my family migrated and we couldn’t take our beautiful Bailey. He was entrusted to another owner. This trust was broken and Bailey was badly neglected. Luckily he came into the hands of DID.. whom my family are deeply thankful. Bailey was raised with my children from a young age and is highly trained. He will stay.. return.. jump.. heel.. retrieve.. etc all on command. He is great with kids and loyal to a master as all weimaraners are. Protective of family and a best friend that you will never have. His intelligence is human and only wants to be close. This boy will take a bullet for you. It hurts me to write this as I can’t believe he was badly treated.. and my wife cries still after him. I ask only that you have the commitment to care for him and I guarantee you will have a friend that would die for you. If you have a few bob to spare please donate to DID… they truly care… best regards M
Hi mightybelle,
I was very touched reading your post. Your love for Bailey comes shining through everything you say. It must have been truly distressing for you and your family to have tried to secure a good future for Bailey and to have been let down so badly. He’s being fostered now by the same people who fostered my dog and they are wonderful, really know the breed and will love him to bits while he’s in their care.

Mightybelle, it must be very upsetting for you. You invested a lot into Bailey and then were let down terribly. It says a lot that you are even on this forum advocating for him so you and your wife should not be too hard on yourselves. If he’s not a match for the family he met yesterday I would love to meet him. Either way he’s landed back on his feet.
Hi Hebe. .. that’s great to hear. I know the effort the girls in DID have went to to get him a new home and we are relieved to hear this. My wife seen the last photo from Kay and Bailey looks great. We really appreciate what has been done and will continue to support DID in there efforts. If the new owner wants to find out more about this highly intelligent friend.. Please pass your details to Kay and she can forward them to me. Best regards M
Hi mightybelle,
I too was very touched to read your post. I just want to let you know, that Bailey is VERY much loved and cared for by us. We have had him for about 3 weeks now and he is amazing- to be honest, I don’t want to let him go. I knew by him that at some stage, he was a loved member of a family. Within days of having him he thought us all of the tricks he knew. He is great with our little boy.
He is an absolute beauty, stunning. Please please rest assured that he is in the best possible hands with DID and that we, as his foster parents are absolutely spoiling him rotten. At the moment, he has 2 sisters (a german shepard and a german wire haird pointer) and also 2 brothers (a hungarian vizsla & our little dolly mixture boy) who he gets on great with.
We bring him out for walks by the river every day, he gets two nice hearty meals a day, meat stews and pasta to fatten him up.
If you have any questions or or would like to see more pix please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can post here or, email me at carolan@daft.ie.
Thanks,
Carolan
