Charlie arrived to stay this week. He is an 18 month old neutered
He has a few issues about trusting people and can appear fearful and barks when he first meets you.

Charlie will require an adult only home with an existing active dog and somebody who is home most of the day. He will require a home who are committed to continuing his socialisation training.

Once he got to know us he has become very affectionate. He loves to walk and he is very strong on the lead. He gets on with my 5 dogs. He is fine when he is out walking with people and other dogs but if a person approaches him he will growl. I think he is afraid of people and growls to protect himself. He is relaxing more and learning from my dogs. He has been just with us a couple of days but he is improving already. We are working on his toilet training. He is very well behaved in a car.

Thanks catherine :D Charlie is settling in very well. In the house he potters around and is very calm. He is bigger than my two bichons but gentle with it. He loves the walkies. He loves going with the other dogs but is not keen on people coming too near or strange dogs so he will growl. John brought him yesterday on his own and he was extremely nervous around people and dogs so he growled a lot. This behaviour is so at odds with the gentle dog we see around the house. John called to his dad’s house and Charlie was nervous again but relaxed when john’s dad gave him a treat. Charlie does not trust any one he does not know. He will need to be homed with another as they can teach him how to relax and give him the support he needs. I can see him visible relax around my dogs. If anyone has any experience or advice please share… He is a beautiful dog full of licks and love. Here are a few pictures…. :D

Hi angjo, my DID dog, Brandon has had some issues with other dogs right back from when I fostered him in 2010. I took him to a trained behaviourist and he too has fear-based reactions. Charlie is brilliant as he is offering a warning and telling you he is not comfortable. All dogs are different but the advise I received was to reward my dog for IGNORING what he doesn’t like. Train him while away from distractions, to give you eye contact. I was told to have a tasty treat supply and use a command like "look" or "watch me" to mark anytime my dog would give even the briefest of eye contact to me. I found with my guy that if he isn’t being put in situations he is uncomfortable with he will relax and trust me. Over time I can be near to other dogs but I did need to not try and be to sociable myself, no chatting with other dog walkers while my dog was getting worked up and worried that he’d have to get cross. I would give my dog the attention and walk away from anything he was upset about before he got over his stress threshold. Rewards for "live and let live" became my motto. He’s now great with 2 dogs he knows in my neighbourhood which doesn’t sound like much but he is so much better. There are no outbursts at the sight of other dogs whatsoever. Of course there are a number of dogs he simply can’t deal with but he knows he doesn’t have to. Therefore now he doesn’t react but he’ll never send them out-of-favour dogs any love letters – ever – and that’s fine. He knows that some dogs are nice, including his best buddy Dabs, his adoptive brother.

Thanks dogs rule for your advice :D
Charlie has settled in very well with us. He loves to gives loads of licks and cuddles. He brings his ball over and drops it waiting patiently for it to be thrown. He loves his walkies especially on the beach. He is a high energy dog and will required long walks.
He is still nervous of people and dogs, I brought him on a walk yesterday on his own and he barked at people and dogs, he seemed very unsure of himself. When he goes with my dogs he is more relaxed and at ease.
He is full of beans and very affectionate to us. He gets on well with our dogs. I would like to see him homed with another dog or dogs. We are taking things slowly as he needs time to overcome his fears and become socialised. Charlie is still very nervous around strangers and dogs. Charlie needs someone very committed to working with him. Here are a few photos, one with my collie Charlie, so we have two Charlies at the moment :D

Hi all, we arrived in Kerry yesterday for our summer hols :D Charlie was a great passenger even though it was 5 hours due to the bank hol. He settled in to our holiday home like he was always there. He was on two beach walks today, he loves chasing balls and stones. He is sleeping now after all the activity. He loves our dogs and they have accepted him . Hamish has taken a shine to him and he cuddles up close to him. When Charlie is with us he is so gentle and loving. He is full of licks and affection. He still gets frightened if people come too close on walkies or people call to the house. So we will continue to work with Charlie on his summer hol :D here he is on the walkies :D

Charlie is enjoying his holidays. He requires a lot of exercise and runs for miles on the beach. He loves to chase a ball and has buckets loads of energy compared to my other bichons.
Charlie is very nervous around people who call to the house and those he meets on the walks. He will bark at them and at dogs he does not know.
I feel Charlie would be best suited to an adult only home with another dog. He will require long walks. He will require a special home and someone who is committed to working with him to overcome his anxiety which will take time. I cannot upload the video I have. So here is a picture.

Has Charlie come back from his holidays yet or have the delightes of Kerry stolen his heart?

Charlie has returned from Kerry, he just loved the beaches, I think he could have some Kerry blood :D he has settled back in and we have been walking him twice daily, he is very energetic and loves the ball. He loves to jump up and catch it in his mouth.
He is very gentle and loving with us and our dogs. He is still very mistrustful of people. My brother stayed with us over night in Kerry and eventually after 24 hours my brother was able to approach Charlie, before that Charlie would bark at him.
Charlie would find it difficult to cope in a situation where there are a lot of people coming and going which causes him to get very stressed and he will bark. He is still fearful of people out-side. We use treats to calm him and the ball gets his attention also. So Charlie is taking baby steps and I see him copying my dogs. He loves to play and he will bring a teddy or a ball over and wait for it to be thrown. He sleeps with all my dogs, loves his food and has a bath and groom .
