simba.jpgMarch 14, 2013 at 1:23 pm #114404DID RescueKeymasterI met Simba today and he is just a big playful bear.
He is good with other dogs but will need some basic training.
His coat needs serious attention as he lived on a farm and was not brushed she lots of undesirable stuff was stuck to him that is the reason his tail is bare.
He will make a great pet.March 16, 2013 at 12:57 am #114303psllfallonMemberThe beautiful Simba arrived to us yesterday! We are thrilled to have him, he really looks like half lion, half grizzly. He went straight into the bath for an hour and loved it, especially my expensive detangling conditioner!!
He was an angel in the bath and didn’t move once, which was great as he needed a serious groom. I cut out the matted pieces and gave him a head massage and then my husband had to lift him out as he wouldn’t leave. I would say he is about 50kg so it wasn’t easy!
Then, out with the hairdryer and not a peep out of him, he defo fancies himself and loves the pampering!
He must have been a completely outside dog as he is very reluctant to cross the doorway into the kitchen from the garden, I had to push him from behind eventually and he was afraid of the washing machine and the kettle boiling, all must be unfamiliar sounds for him.
He is currently wary of my other dogs but couldnt care less about the cat. He is friendly toward my 3 little boys. The main issue with Simba at the moment could be loneliness, his owner passed away and he defo appears to be sad, maybe also overwhelmed from leaving a farm and coming to a Dublin suburb in the flight path of Dublin Airport!…
Simba needs lots and lots of reassurance and love, like us all if we were to find ourselves in his unfortunate situation (
More updates in the coming weeks x

He is just a big ball of fluff that follows me everywhere and really just wants cuddles and hugs all day.
He is very gentle with my 3 little boys and seems to be aware of his size and is careful with them. When his tail was accidently rolled over by a little scooter, he did not even flinch, which is a brilliant sign of a tolerant, gentle dog.
Simba wants to be number 1 in our house, not in an aggressive way, more like a toddler who demands your constant love and affection. He gets on well with our other 3 dogs and loves our tiny cat and has settled in well with them. As long as he knows food is always coming, he is happy. Indeed, he loves his grub though is not greedy.
When out for a walk, he loves to meet other dogs, although they sometimes seem intimidated by his size and bark at him, whilst he looks on in amusement.
He is a clean dog who is completely toilet trained. Indeed, we thought he had no basic training but we were wrong. After 3 days, he sat and gave us the paw, which means he is either a really fast learner or he needed just a few days to trust us. He also never jumps up on us which is good, considering his size.
Simba would be as asset to any family and is always admired when he is out and about, although he is still a bit scared of traffic and loud noises, this is understandable having come from a farm down the country.
I would highly recommend Simba and when the tail fur grows back, he will be the most handsome guy in the street!March 20, 2013 at 11:48 pm #114576psllfallonMemberSimba loves kids

April 12, 2013 at 10:32 pm #114992psllfallonMemberSimba is really settling down with us in foster care! He is now completely at home inside the house and the noises that used to scare him like the hoover and washing machine are now no problem for him ) its hard to imagine that a kettle boiling was enough to send this big baby running but he is great now!
He goes out for a walk each evening and is slowly becoming acclimatised to traffic, I have often stood at a busy junction with him for ages just to let him see all the buses and cars go by, people thought we were crazy, I am sure, but it is slowly working.
His coat is really starting to shine and he had his first compliment today from a lady who said she wished her hair was as shiny as his:)) His tail fur is starting to grow again and will soon be back to its fullness in a few weeks, thanks to daily fish oil capsules.Simba really is a big baby that NEEDS to be petted and groomed and loved. He loves to be part of the family and still looks kind of humbled everytime he is in the house. A funny trait of his is that he stands up everything I walk into the room, a true gent…
Simba will be a wonderful loyal pet for any family, with or without kids, with or without other pets, he would be happy just with his owner or with a gang, I believe he just wants to belong somewhere and is so grateful of any attention, you can see the gratitude in his eyes, beautiful big baby ))
