jacko.JPGjacko2.jpgWe have Jack one week today. Things are going well – Jack has settled in well and he has really bonded with us which is great!
He’s walked twice a day and loves the garden. He’s an intelligent little dog, responds to sit, stay, quiet (sometimes) and is friendly with people.Only problem is when we bring him for walks – he tenses up when he sees other dogs in the distance – and by the time we get up close to them, he’s beside himself with excitement, barking and almost choking himself. We don’t think it’s aggression – but the other dogs don’t know that – and they bark back. At one point he tried to jump up on another dog – who didn’t like this at all.
So we really need to start working with him on socialisation with other dogs – he gets into such a state. We’ve tried distracting him – talking to him when we’re approaching the other dog, reassuring him….which minimises it a little bit – but not enough to calm him down.
Delighted I had the opportunity to visit this tiny man in his new home yesterday. Adored is the only word for how his new family feel about him. He is only with them a week today and is just such a content relaxed doggie.
Jack is enrolling in socialisation classes in the new year and possibly some agility for fun after that
Getting involved in organised classes in obedience, socialisation and agility is a great way to have some one on one time with your pooch. I have been bringing my own dog to agility classes this year and her confidence levels have grown so much. Its brilliant to see each dog progress and I have yet to see a dog who doesn’t enjoy themselves once they settle in to the routine of being around a group of dogs.Jacks family are really committed to working on the walks and I have no doubt he will have loads of pals and walking buddies in his neighborhood soon!
