Bear is a 10 week old German Shephard X Collie.
He will be a large boy when fully grown.
Bear is fully vaccinated, wormed and microchipped and will need to be neutered at 6 months.Bear is a laid back boy. He is extremely social and is fantastic with other dogs and kids so could fit into any family type. He can be an only dog or a new member to a pack, he is just so easygoing.
Well we got a new house guest here over the weekend – he even overlapped with Freya for a few hours!!! Bear is a gorgeous big baby!!! He weighs 10 kilos (same as Thor and almost half the weight of our adult girls, Mollie and Tigra) and yet is a real puppy baby who cries to be picked up and cuddled. It is so cute. He is a very gentle little man who shies away from the really rough play but he plays happily with Thor and if he gets Casper (another big baby) in a lying position, he plays happily with him too!!! He settled in here quite quickly but he is happiest when there is a human in his sights AT ALL TIMES. He has become a lot more playful and confident – amazing in just 24 hours.
Bear will be a large dog when fully grown. He will be wormed, microchipped and have at least his first vaccination before being rehomed. He must be neutered at 6 months old.

Gone is the crying when you leave the room to be replaced by a cheeky yap when he is not getting his own way!!! Honest to God, if we reprimand him in any way, he stands his ground and answers us back with the cutest little bark – and expression!! – that says "You really want to go there?"!!! He is always up for a game and settles down with the others at bedtime without a peep out of him (apart from the first night when you would swear the werewolves were on the prowl, so loud was his howling!!!!) Toilet training is a work in progress. Bear is GAS! We never see him going but we find plenty of little puddles around the place. To be fair, he DOES go outside sometimes – and he makes sure we see him go then (anything for a treat or a word of praise). A great little man!!!
CAM_0990.JPGMay 13, 2012 at 12:57 pm #109752ColganFamilyMemberOur gorgeous little man (did I just say "little"????) continues to thrive and grows more adorable and confident by the day. He loves to play with any toy he can find – or, more correctly, any toy the bould Thor, Tigra and Casper will let him have! He fights his corner up to a point, then happily wanders off to another when he is outsized or outwitted (I haven’t broken it to the others that ONE DAY he will be bigger than any of them!!!! ) He is a great grubber and he loves his bed – so much so that when we put his own blanket away in the morning, just to make some walking room in the kitchen, he retrieves it from the utility room, puts it in the EXACT spot we put it in at night and lies on it, wearing an expression that says "I have no intention of slumming it in one of the other beds!!!" He is a real chatterbox too and if anyone talks to him, he answers back both waggily and vocally. We just love him to bits – a real character!!

May 14, 2012 at 7:48 am #109768IndiannaMemberBear is indeed a beautiful pup and obviously very bright. In the right hands he COULD rule the world . If he has the best of the GSD and Collie within, well, his potential is endless. I have everything crossed that he goes to a home where his family will guide and train him into the wonderful dog nature meant him to be His foster family have given him a great start and long may that continue.
May 14, 2012 at 9:42 pm #109783MutleyMemberI love reading about Bear – he sounds quite the character indeed! I trust you are marking off his growth by the day! Super pup.
May 22, 2012 at 1:34 pm #108638ColganFamilyMemberBear continues to be an absolute joy to foster! He has cracked the toilet-training, sleeps like a baby (on the bed he has made himself ), eats like a horse, loves his play and adores his cuddles. He is super smart too and has picked up all the tricks of the trade from his canine siblings here. He is a TOTAL chatterbox and he has full length conversations with my husband who, incidentally, has created a whole new language to converse with Bear! He – Bear, not Niall – has started to accompny us on our morning walks and he is UNBELIEVABLY good. He stays very close and if he does go a little bit away to greet someone, he returns immediately when called. Can’t say enough good things about this little guy. He developed an interest in rugby at the weekend (as you can see in the pic below). Now if I can just turn him into a Chelsea (kings of Europe, I might add!!!) fan, my life will be complete!!!

CAM_0999.JPGMay 27, 2012 at 8:42 am #109395ColganFamilyMemberWell our darling Bear gets bigger and boulder by the day!!! He continues to be a joy – active and affectionate, playful and funny.
The chat out of him is still unbelievable and he asks, complains, gives out and converses all in different tones of voice – it is gas listening to him.
He has discovered the ball!!! And he just LOVES it. Out on the walk, the ball is Thor’s domain but – just like a good big bro – he, indulgently, lets Bear have it for a small part of the walk and Bear chases it and carries it with such pride.
This little guy will be an amazing addition to whatever lucky family comes along to offer him a forever home.
In the pics below you can see him enjoying the recent good weather out the back and absolutely envying the agility that allows Thor to jump up on any available surface and survey the world from a height!! ( a thing he does very regularly!!!!)
CAM_0997.JPGMay 27, 2012 at 8:43 am #109044ColganFamilyMemberNow how did he do that????
CAM_1005.JPGMay 31, 2012 at 8:26 am #108685ColganFamilyMemberOur gorgeous Bear – by name AND nature – got his second vax last night and took it TOTALLY SILENTLY!!! An amazing feat for a dog that has an opinion on almost everything. He continues to grow in strength and beauty and he is just an incredible "little" puppy. He loves everybody and everything, adores his walks and his toys, plays tirelessly with the gang here, has mastered the toilet training, sleeps through the night without a peep, eats like a horse, loves his treats and is great in the car (as long as some bit of him is touching some bit of human ). A real winner in every sense of the word.
CAM_1001.JPGJune 2, 2012 at 8:04 pm #108597kaydoyleMemberThis little man is just amazing…he spent four hours at our Information Day in "Pet Co" this afternoon.
He loved all the children, adults and other dogs. He took it all in his stride and was adored by all
bear10.jpgJune 5, 2012 at 9:13 am #109816ColganFamilyMemberYep I was SO PROUD of him up at Petco – he was unbelievably relaxed and well behaved. He chewed through 2 chewies and happily submitted to any amount of handling and stroking by adults and children alike. He met all the other dogs with quiet enthusiasm – he is never over exuberant which is great to see particularly in a puppy that is going to be big! On that subject, we weighed him yesterday and he is now a hefty 15kilos – up from 10 when he arrived with us 4 and a half weeks ago. He continues to be an amazing guy in every way.
CAM_0997.JPGJune 5, 2012 at 9:14 am #109817ColganFamilyMemberHere I am playing with Thor – note how Thor negates the size advantage with a height advantage . . . .
CAM_1003.JPGJune 13, 2012 at 5:42 pm #109987ColganFamilyMemberWell our beautiful Bear headed off to his very own "happy ever after" this evening! We are SO thrilled for him and SO gutted for us!!!! He met a lovely family with a gorgeous GSD named Ophelia and they all got on like a house on fire. Bear was a really special foster and we will miss him like crazy but I know he has gone to a great home where he will be loved and spoiled – just as he deserves. All the best, my special little man.
