From Gareths family
Hi guys, not sure if u remember a young boxer called "Gareth" we (well my dad rehomed him )renamed him Travis. Sad news I’m afraid he was put to sleep today. We are devastated. We found a tumor in august which was removed and was discovered it was an aggressive form of cancer. The wonderful vets in kilmainham have done all they could and we had to make the hard decision today to put him to sleep. When my dad first took Travis home he was skinny, had major separation anxiety and was afraid of the dark. Travis had turned into a wonderful pet all my dads hard work paid off and he no longer suffered from any of his previous problems.
Sorry to be the bearer of such sad news but he’s gone on to the big field in the sky a happy and much loved pet thanks to all ur hard efforts x x x
Happy Christmas to you all.

Thinking of you all.December 26, 2011 at 8:52 pm #107759IndiannaMemberWhat a handsome dog, your father must be very proud of him, I would be. You will never forget him, he will always be part of your family, try to remember the good times and take heart from the fact you cared for him as he deserved.

I too had to put my faithful friend, Fred, to sleep last June. I got a lovely card and poem from my Vet a few days later. Hopefully your Dad will get some comfort from these words:
If it should be
If it should be, I grow frail and weak,
and pain should wake me from my sleep,
then you must do what must be done,
for this last battle can’t be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
Don’t let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We’ve had so many happy years,
What is to come will hold no fears.
You’ll not want me to suffer so,
When the time comes, please let me go.
I know in time you too will see,
It is kindness you do for me.
Although my tail, it’s last has waved,
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.
Do not grieve that it should be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do.
We’ve been so close, we two these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears. In memory of all good and faithful friends
