SO Belle has stayed her first night with me and she was as good as gold!!!
We picked Belle up form the pound at about 12:30pm yesterday. When the woman brought her out of the kennels, she was very nervous and afraid. Once I called her over to me it was as if she knew I was there to save her! From that moment on, her tail has not stopped wagging!! (she even sometimes wag’s it in her sleep!) She was very scared about coming into our house at first, but she quickly came to realise that it was a lot warmer inside than it was outside! She ate her first bit of food so quick, I’m convinced she didn’t even chew it! So, I don’t think she is a picky eater. I then took her for a walk. She was very nervous about putting on a lead, and was quite afraid to walk anywhere, so I kept the walk to a short one. Even within the last 24hours she seems to have improved a lot with it. With a little bit of time, she will soon realise that leads mean walkies!!
After her walk I gave her a nice bath, and she quickly found her favourite spot – right in the middle of the couch!!
She is such a super super dog! Very quite and timid. She has such a good temperment! She is AMAZING wth cats and other dogs!! When my neighbours cat first came over to meet her, I was worried Belle might have been blind because she didn’t even look twice at the cat!! She’s not blind, she is just fantastic around other animals..She is GREAT with kids too! Infact, she is great with anyone who gives her a nice pet!! She is just an incredible dog, I’m so impressed by her!! She is such an angel, and whoever can give her the home she deserves will be rewarded with an endless amout of love!!
"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself" – Josh Billings. Case in point with Belle. She is truly fantastic!
We took her to the vet today. I have never seen a dog be so friendly towards a vet until today. Belle just wanted a cuddle off anyone!! She will be spayed on Tuesday (20/12/2011) and microchipped. Not the best christmas present she will get, but I’ll give her lots of treats afterwards to make up for it! I have yet to tell her she will need to wear a cone for about 10 days :?
I will try and upload some photo’s of her now. It’s quite hard to take a photo of her because she gets up and comes over to you any time you look at her. I managed to get a video of her eating a Denta Stick, which will show off her beautiful face. I will try and upload that one too.
She really is a wonderful dog. She is very placid, and has been happy enough to sleep for most of today. She would be suited to any type of household that can give her all the love and cuddles she deserves. She’s a true lady!

Here she is again at the vet! The staff at Terenure Veterinary Hospital were fantastic!! All of them were so lovely to us today! Maybe that’s what had her so relaxed :)

What a fantastic update, really good to read. :)
I love the part where you thought she was blind and then said she wasn’t :D
Great photos I am sure she thinks she has died and gone to Heaven.
Thank you for giving this girl a place for Christmas it’s hard to believe it could have been a very different ending.
Looking forward to hearing about her progress. :)

I’m delighted you took Belle in, she has a really kind soulful face. Really how could she be in a pound in the first place just leaves me dumbfounded.

I have to agree with dogsrule on both counts – Belle is a beauty.

Thanks Twist, dogsrule and Mutley!! She really is so sweet, it’s beyond me that she ended up where she did! You really need to meet this girl to truly see what an angel she is..

She is so undemanding and she wants nothing more than to be near you! A VERY quick learner, she has come on leaps and bounds with the lead. Still not quite where she should be, but I think she’ll have the hang of it within a week. She’s very clever!!! Got a few more snaps of her today..

Met this gorgeus girl today. Poor thing was still a bit groggy from her spay op. All she wants is to be close to people. Even when she lies down she has to touch you with at least one paw ;) I`d say she will be great addition to any family – no food aggression, no issues with touching certain parts of the body or checking teeth by complete stranger :) Wasn`t in the slightest interested in cats. As soon as she recovers from her surgery arrangements will be made for doggie play date :D

Thanks LuvMyFurKids!! :D Really glad I went ahead with the fostering, and Belle is such a great dog to start off with! Very true Mutley, she will be perfect for ANY family! :D
Great to have met you Aggie!!! Me and Belle can’t WAIT to have a doggie play date! :D :D
Belle has come back from her operation and is doing great. They needed to keep her overnight just for observational reasons as I think she was done late in the day. I collected her from the vet yesterday and they said she was so good! She didn’t go near her stiches at all, so she didn’t need a cone!!!! Yay for Belle! But they gave me one anyway, just incase she started at them. So far so good though, she hasnt gone near them!
It’s been great having her back in the house, she is really coming into her own now. She’s slowly building up confidence, although I’ve yet to hear her bark. Lots of rest for her at the moment, as she still has her stiches in, but I can see that the little puppy in her is just dying to get out and explore the world! Really looking forward to taking her out to a few dog parks and see how she goes.
I got her a little chew toy which she wasn’t too bothered by, until I put Laughing Cow (Low Fat..!) cheese spread on to it..typical woman, likes anything smothered in cheese…

Lovely pics! :D Great to hear Belle is coneless (so far!) and hopefully she’s not too uncomfortable. I’m sure she will be barking in no time at this rate! ;)
