Hi all,
Marie has asked me to post this here, and for it to be placed as a sticky in the forum section, if one of the mods could organise this? Thanky!
I’m delighted to announce that there is now an Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) here in Ireland. The APDT has been established in a number of countries around the world since Ian Dunbar first founded the US APDT in 1994, and now, Ireland has its very own APDT too!
A number of like-minded dog trainers got together some months ago with the aim of forming an association which would educate the general public about kind, positive, dog-friendly training techniques, and to provide owners with a website where they can find such trainers in their own geographical area.
Interested dog trainers can apply to become a member of the APDT Ireland from September 2010 onwards: keep an eye on the site for updates about this. All applicants will undergo an assessment procedure, both theoretical and practical, so that their abilities as a trainer are up to scratch, and to ensure that they embrace the concept of dog-friendly dog training.
All founding members have already been assessed by world-famous dog behaviourist Andrea Arden.
In addition, we have as our patrons non other than Dr. Ian Dunbar, Kelly Dunbar, Andrea Arden, and Peter Neville.
So, if a dog owner needs some training for themselves and their dog, they can log onto our new website, and find a trainer in their area who they can be confident are going to have the proper knowledge to train their dog, and who will not use aversive training methods, rather they will make training great fun and effective for both dog and owner.
The website is in its infancy at the moment so please be patient while we add lots of extra information to it!
