Hi,
We have recently returned from 2 weeks holidays in Achill. We go every year. This was Abby’s first holiday with us as since we adopted her in November 08. We were obviously concerned about how she would travel on the journey, and how she would be with sheep etc, when we got there.
Abby was very good in the car on the long journey, an occassional nudge in the neck or ear to let us know she was there and a few stops for water and a wee and she was truly wonderful travelling Otherwise she just sat calmly in the back of the car.
She had a great time as next door to us there was an unneutered male collie called Cliff who she struck up a great frienship with. She had little interest in the sheep and really was great off the lead on the beach and in open spaces we took her to. She had a swim in the lake and a run into the waves in the sea, and just had a great time. We are so lucky to have her , she has turned out to be a great girl and a very spoilt lady.
We thought a lot about Jasper the collie when were there, as Cliff was very similar. Also hope he has settled after coming from the big open spaces of the beautiful Achill.I have just spent ages trying to do the photobucket thing, and as always I cant master it. I can mail pics to anyone who can put them up for me, and will send them later.
Mary, Gerry and Abby.

November 1, 2009 at 2:24 am #89299MARYMACMemberHi,
Some of you will remember Abby, who we adopted a year ago exactly. She came to us from her foster Mum Ash, who had taken great care of her after she had pups and was in a bad state, poor pet.In the last year she has brought us so much fun and happiness. She is great company and a very happy girl . She loves to play in the Park and on the green near our house, and as long as you throw her a ball she will go forever and comes back home tongue nearly tipping the ground. We have had her on holidays with us and she travelled very well and was very good with everyone she met.
She is still funny about noises, doorbell and loud voices. She seems to get startled and barks a lot. We have been working on this and though it has improved she still takes the letters from the letterbox as the postman puts them through and just leaves them on the ground. She doesnt tear them, just takes them and puts them on the floor. She doesnt like loud voices as this startles her, I often wonder was she shouted at a lot previously. Also house noises used to startle her, but not any more. She is in great condition according to the vet who saw her this week for her booster.
She is a very funny girl, who nearly talks to you when she is looking for attention, a sort of howl and funny noises, which becomes a bark if she doesnt get what she wants She’s very playful and loves her toys as you can see from the pictures. They are all equal favourites as she rotates from one to the other, of course apart from the 4 fluffy balls that she got in the toy (square fluffy one in photo) I thought at first they were too small for her as smaller than a tennis ball and soft and squeaky. But she loves to play with them, make them squeak and fling them around the place. Ideal for in the house, as they can land anywhere !! She is great with people and once she is petted and has a belly rub she is a happy girl. She doesnt like mornings, and has been known to refuse a pigs ear even when a bit sleepy for the first hour or so after waking. Also has a mad hour or so at night where she goes mad playing around 10pm, goes for a wee and then sleeps for the night. We could nearly tell the time by her now.
We are so glad we got Abby after our poor Cassie died afer having her for 12 years. A house is too quiet without a furry friend or two if I ever get my way about company for her !! She loves company and loves to play with Bruce my nephews dog, who is now about 28kg and towers over her. They roll around and have great fun, she has stayed a couple of times with them and was very good and happy. We are very proud of our girl as tonight there were a lot of firworks from about 6 – 12, and she really didnt pay much heed to them at all. A far cry from the nervous girl we got a year ago. We love her to bits.
Thanks everyone who made it possible for Abby to come to us.
sorry for waffling and hope this works.Mary & Gerry.
