We just had Stevie (he’s with us six weeks now rehomed from Ashtown) to the vet for his second vaccine and during our chat with the vet he said there had been quite a few recent cases of rat poisioning in dogs. A few months ago there was a rat spotted in our neighbours garden. We had environmental health out, their only solution was rat poison, they have you sign a disclaimer should your pet ingest it to cover themselves legally. Although they lay it out of reach we just wouldn’t chance it, nor would our neighbour. Luckily enough after weeks of baiting traps under the shed we caught it. The guy told us there has been a rapid surge in rat populations of late, perhaps the council are laying poison in parks to combat it. Be on the look out. Our vet said they have a antidote but dogs must be treated asap
Poor fella, so sorry to hear that. Thanks a mill for the warning.
Thanks !
Sorry to hear that awful news
Could I ask what part of Dublin this happened in?

so sorry for your loss. I’ve heard of this happening round the dublin area and could be related to break ins! Rest easy poor Jake.
Hi there, last wednesday morning,(Dec 10)our beloved springer spaniel, jake, suddenly took ill and died, while outside our house,he was nearly 11,and was in good health for his age. After a phone call to my job from my mother, i got to the house to find him dead in the hall way,as my father and a neighbour, lifted him in from the street. It was a mystery,as to how he died,as there were no signs of injury (car accident)which is what we thought.I brought him to the vet,and asked for a Post mortem to be carried out,to our horror, there were chicken bones in his stomack and he had been poisoned(rat poison),we still cant believe he’s gone, and to think that someone could have done this,or it could have been just a accident. Then i heard that there has been a spate of poisonings in the Dublin area, dont know if this is true or not,my father is still very upset over his passing as jake was his ‘pal’.Please be careful with your dog when out,or in any parks,as i would hate anybody to lose there dog,the way we lost ours.[/quote:2p7yosqr]
