Have Kizzy for 3 weeks now. She is a lovely girl who has settled in well. Great friends with Jack (Staffie rescued from Dunboyne Sept 07 aka Lock) they have great fun together. In the process of adopting her.

Really saddened to see the wounds-though i can’t see them properly as the pics are really small- what on earth happened her?
I am so glad she will have another staffie to play with-she loves a bit of rough and tumble!!And I am sure Lock will be well able for her!!
Congrats on adoption process- wishing you both the very best of luck and please keep us updated- she left a big hole in my heart that little madame did….November 24, 2008 at 8:34 pm #81206mollie57MemberKizzy had a run in with another dog before we got her and looks miles better now. She is such a loving girl and wants to cuddle in to you all the time.
Regarding house training – she does not seem to realise she should go to the toilet when she is let out – only seems to go when she really needs to. This means accidents on the floor. Never came across this before in an older dog – have house trained many pups over the years – v easy as they ‘perform’ all the time and can be praised and so learn easily – just cannot manage to catch Kizzy at the right time to praise her – any help really appreciated.November 24, 2008 at 11:02 pm #81208MuireannMemberBack to basics might help, as in go out with her each time and just wait until she does something and praise her loads and give her something really tasty. It will take patience, I’ve been standing outside with dogs many a night in the freezing cold and rain waiting on them to pee so I can praise them and make a fuss. It can get very frustrating but it is worth the effort I find and after a few days they start to cop on and begin going a bit quicker when they go outside and come looking for their bit of chicken or whatever treat I have that day.
If you are home during the day take her out every couple of hours and just wait for as long as it takes and as soon as she does her business treat and let her back in, she should catch on pretty quickly! Waiting outside is the only way to catch her at the right time for praise.
November 25, 2008 at 10:22 am #81209sezzie22MemberI found Kizzy does need you to wait with her outside- but she never had an accident with me- but i was religous about letting her out as I was still trying to access her level of house training!
She works like clockwork straight after food and loves the praise after she has done her business!! I used the same technique as Muireann- just waited and waited and refused to go in as i knew she needed to go but was distracted and wanted to play with me, or chase the neighbours cat off the wall!!
Fingers crossed she will ‘get it’ soon but some evenings she would potter around for 10 mins before she would do what she needed to do!!November 25, 2008 at 6:20 pm #81216mollie57MemberThanks so much will try your suggestions and let you know how it goes. Waited with her this evening and made a fuss of her and gave her a treat when she performed. Will keep this up and get the rest of the men in my life to do the same.
